The Woodthorpe is a lovely restaurant located not far from Heaton Park. Lovely to sit out in the summer and cosy in the winter months. Lovely place just for a drink, But if your wanting a bite to eat this place is ideal from a salad to a huge steak dinner, and enormous cakes. Fantastic value for money.

I have been here quite a few times and it’s s really nice pub. it’s right neat Heaton Park so it’s in a good location. It’s a great place to eat as you know your always gonna get good food. They do special offers like two courses for £11.95 and if you buy a burger Monday –Friday before 6 it’s £7.95 with a free drinks. I have had the chillies which was really bat little spicy when I had it, the curry is really nice too and you get rice and nann bread with it. I like bringing my little cousins hear as they’re really good with children and they like the food too they get a kids packs so keeps them entertained while they wait for the food. The pub is really clean and tidy and the décor is nice for a pub it’s got a nice area seating area outside if it’s nice and there is a big car park atvthe side.

The woodthorpe is a very nice pub which serves up good pub grub. It is located close to Heaton Park. It is a very impressive and grand building which is a nice change from the usual. I’ve been coming here for years but since my taste card ran out I haven’t been for a while… They have actually stopped accepting taste card but offer good value offers which include 2 courses for £11.95 and any burger and a drink for £7.95. For the last meal here I shared the mixed meze which was very tasty and nice to share. For main I had the chicken stack burger which is massive! The chips aren’t the best and are most likely just frozen but for what you pay you really can’t complain… I tried a bit of the chicken tikka which was also very tasty. This occasion didn’t have room for desert but they are amazing and are HUGE! You can also take the cakes home if you wish. Definitely a pub which is worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Met a friend here for a mid week bite to eat. It is an old building old by the joseph holt brewery and apparently it was the holts family home back in the day fact fans! They do 2 courses for £11.95 and have a very good cake section with delights such as oreo cake, mars bar cake and good old fashioned black forrest gateaux! I opted for one of the hanging kebabs– salmon and prawn served with chips and a garlic butter sauce. My friend opted for the same but chicken. Kebab was nice and the butter sauce was good chips could have done with some seasoning as they would have bern a bit bland without the garlic butter. Good portions of food, ended up taking the cake home with us as we were just too full — the staff were very obliging and boxed it all up for us. Nice sized pub with lots of sitting areas and different sized tables. Pub quiz from 8pm every Wednesday and im pretty sure they do a sunday carvery.

The Woodthorpe is a HUGE pub /restaurant on Bury New Rd, close to Heaton Park — i came here on Saturday for a pub lunch and family gathering for my aunties birthday. It is ideally situated, just off the main road and has a large car park. The outside of the pub is very impressive. It is a grade 2 listed building and was once owned by the Holt family of Joseph Holt’s brewery(and is still ran by them to this day). The inside is equally as impressive with the restaurant being very nicely laid out. The food menu is your typical pub grub. I ordered the Joey burger, and whilst I wasn’t wow’d by it, it was OK. Most of my family went for more traditional dishes such as Cottage Pie or Steak and Ale Pie — they all looked and tasted good. The dessert menu was good also — the Oreo cake was a winner with my niece and i may have(definitely) scoffed a chocolate fudge cake. I would recommend this place for a bite to eat if you’re local.

I have only read other reviews on this place since going there. I have to endorse all that others have said; it is a fantastic building that seems to go on for ever. They seem to be able to cater for any numbers — we were a large group celebrating a Birthday and had a large space with ample seating in the Carvery. It was nice to have the choice of the traditional Sunday lunch from the Carvery or any of the normal menu items. All meals were described by our group as outstanding and most have promised to return on other occasions — in our case quite a drive from Warrington as it takes in some of the busiest stretches of motorway, but well worth it. Prices are a little steep for a Joseph Holt’s pub, but better than average for the locality. Food prices are unbelievably reasonable during the week and good even on a Sunday.

Went for lunch with a friend. Had the starter and main course. Well presented and very filling. Very comfortable and well laid out. I am in a wheelchair and very accessible.(on disabled parking bay not very useful as other cars can park across the back). However, the best bit was the dessert. They were boxed up for us to take home(free with a voucher from the local free press). I have just eaten mine and it was DELICIOUS. Very moist, full of chocolate and I want another. The dessert cabinet is the best that I have ever seen. Will definitely be back.

this is a lovely old pub which i visited 4 years ago, a friend of mine was down from glasgow, we had a good night, large rooms, friendly staff, outside seating, as well as heaters[to cater for the smokers], 3 months ago i wanted to go to sunday lunch, so looked at the reviews of the food served here, very favourable, we were a party of 6 and paid something like 8 pounds each, the pub wasnt that busy. we waited 45 minutes. and when the food arrived it wasnt enough to fill you up, we then asked for some gravy, we had a little dribble on the beef, the vegetables you couldnt even put your fork through as they were soo undercooked, we left having all eaten the meat and roast potatoes, all the veg was left, i recommend this pub for drinking only, the food was awful.

Nice pub, lovely building across from the rear corner entrance to Heaton Park. Ok for both a drink, and eating. Lovely out the front on a sunny summer’s day :)

Not quite my local, but probably the best choice within a five minute drive. A pleasant, characterful pub with a really nice outside area. Service is a bit slow at busy times, but remained friendly and efficient all evening. Plenty of comfy seats inside, wooden chairs outside. The house red was surprisingly good — in many pubs, I’ve found the house wines to be virtually undrinkable, but definitely not here. Reasonable prices, too. We spent almost 5 hours here recently and I spent just under £20, which left me a lot of change out of the £30 I took with me :) Didn’t try the food, but I am reliably informed that it’s very good. Will definitely be coming back here soon, even though it’s a good 15 – 20 minutes walk home — it’s probably a good job that it’s a little out of my way, otherwise I would probably spend far too much time/money in here: D

The Woodthorpe is one of my favourite pubs. When you drive past in summer, kids are rolling down the hill and at night, it has a really nice feel to it. It is not particularly more expensive than others round here but it feels more special. It is absolutely massive(Grade 2 listed and steeped in Joseph Holt history) with a big car park and loads of grass. Plus that little terrace. Or beer garden, whatever you want to call it. Exactly the right amount of space for balmy summer evenings. Yet inside is so traditional, even though it had a makeover a while ago, you can’t fault it. Delicious food. In fact I just put four stars but I’m going to bump it up to five. I’ve never heard of any trouble in the Woodthorpe whatsoever — its not that kind of crowd. It is a bit out of the way, near Heaton Park but that justs adds to its charm.

The original home of Joseph Holt. This Grade II listed pub sits in extensive grounds and a couple of years ago was completely refurbished. There are a variety of rooms which are large with high ceilings. They serve a good selection of drinks and also have a separate restaurant. It is very popular in the summer due to the large outside patio area. Thoroughly recommend.

This pub is a great Joseph Holt backed pub. It was the original home of the founder of the Holt’s brewery and was converted in I think the 1960s. It was recently refurbished again to create a modern eating place and bar. There are rooms to stay in upstairs as well as a function room. On the ground floor there is a bar selling drinks and bar food and a separate restaurant that has a good selection of reasonably priced food. The menu has something for everyone and two good deals if more than one course is ordered. The puddings are very good and the food is well presented. The staff are very pleasant and professional and this is well worth a visit.

another great joey holts near heaton park, think it was joesph holts original houses. brilliant beer garden outside in the summer and next door to heaton park if you’re going for a full day out. has changed over the years and specialising mainly in food now, which most of the time is spot on and very cheap

This is a Joseph Holt’s brewery, in a quiet location. Really large pub, with a function room upstairs. It has a traditional british pub feel, with the food to match. Great place to lounge about with a big Sunday lunch, or unwind after work on Fridays(as we often do at our school!) There’s a large carpark which is convenient, and tables you can sit at inside, or large sofas if you’re feeling a bit stuffed! Prices are reasonable, and the puddings are well recommended, sticky toffee in particular.
