I’ve been to the Knott various times for a few beers and I’ve always had a good time. There is a decent selection on offer and the building itself is a nice, friendly place. The location is pretty handy if you get the tram into south Manchester too, being just over the road from Deansgate Castlefield. We had food once a while ago, both having the steak sandwich and from what I remember it was pretty good. I’ve heard good things from other people too. The Knott is a very nice place which I will continue to come back to many more times. I’ve probably rounded this up from 4.5 as I’m feeling generous but also because I feel this is because this is my kind of place, rather than something absolutely everyone would love. The less beer orientated might not rate it quite as highly.

Step three on the(pub) tour of Manchester led us to Knott Bar. Clearly from the atmosphere, we were heading toward a more hipsterfied area of Manchester. It’s under some railway arches which is about as hipster as you can get. There is plenty of seating inside as well, but the décor and set up are definitely hipstery. I had another delicious dark beer, and we sat in the corner to chat. It has a pleasant atmosphere and everyone at the place seemed to be enjoying themselves. Definitely another place to come back to if I return…

Lovely pub — and not one I expected to find just off Deansgate Locks! Large seating area downstairs as well as a cool smoking balcony upstairs. This does get a bit noisy, as the bar is located underneath the railway bridge, but I love a good outdoor area and you don’t find many in the city centre. The staff were lovely and helpful, I like to be recommended different beers and they did just that. I settled with a gorgeous fruit beer and the sun popped its head out enabling us to sample the smoking area. I think perhaps if you chose to visit Knott on a weekend this could have been another story. Situated near Deansgate you do tend to get a different sort of patron to the Northern Quarter hipsters I’m used to. However — week night or day and I’ll guarantee you’ll love it. The Ramones posters help too.

I’ve lived behind Deansgate train station for nearly 18 months and only ventured into Knott Bar for the first time a few weeks ago. I’m not a real ale fan so assumed there would be very little option for me in terms of drink but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of fruit beers on offer as well as cider and some wines. It’s a lot bigger than it looks from the front with lots of tables to sit at and a lovely friendly atmosphere. It’s perfect for a quick catch up with a friend or a meet up point before a night out. Sunday lunch was pretty good with a good sized portion, mash and roast potatoes as well as carrots, parsnips, green beans and broccoli. My friend ordered one of the steak burgers and was disappointed by the amount of onion in the patty. This was changed with no fuss and the chicken burger replacement was much better. It gets busy and the toilets aren’t the nicest but then that’s not what this place is about. A proper ‘pub’ type atmosphere in the city, I’ll be back.

Knott Bar has been my go to pub when looking for good beer at the bottom of Deansgate(I count the bottom as near the train station, don’t ask me why) as long as I care to recall. It’s certainly the best pub near the awful Locks, with very little competition for quality ale nearby, something that the plethora of awards can also attest to. If you manage to grab a table after 5 of a week night you’ll be aware of the smug feeling this affords, being so close to both tram and rail stations, as well as plenty of offices and residential property Knott is a popular destination. There’s a good atmosphere with the buzz of conversation over one of the better jukeboxes when busy(which, as mentioned, it’s most of the time), and a calm spot to contemplate the movement outside on the odd quiet occasion. There’s several cask ale pumps, with great local and regional beers, as well as the best part of a dozen keg taps, ranging from standard fizzy lagers to superhero triple ipas from the likes of Magic Rock, plus plenty in between. For those of a hungry disposition, Knott serves a decent menu of the likes you get all around town, sadly the lovely creamy chicken and chorizo dish they used to do is now off the menu. You can’t go too wrong in my limited experience eating at Knott, and they have monthly special epicurean evenings with a varying theme which are worth a look too.

Have been coming to Knott bar for ten years now, it’s a homely place to get some good food & beer. I like it best on Sunday afternoons.

I’d been interested in coming to Knott Bar for ages as I walk past it approximately 10 times a week and finally came in for a pint(or in my case, INCREDIBLY large glass of white wine) late on a Saturday night. Crowd was boisterous and a bit blokey but it’s a cosy place to hang out and one that takes obvious pride in its long history of accolades for its beer selection. Next time I want to try the fabled burger, dubbed the best in Manchester by Ian M. This would be a great local bar crawl with the Ox, Cask and potentially Atlas across the road too if you felt like escalating into gin.

I have to say that I am highly impressed :) Being a tour guide for the day, to my Yorkshire friend I contemplated where to take him after a trip to the museum. Sitting in Spinning Fields he said«Pub grub!» So whipping out my trusty Unilocal app, the Knott was the closest. Arriving my curiosity was peeked. and like everywhere it was filled with Sunday diners. Stealthily we grabbed a table and poured over the menu. To most people Sunday dinner for a tenner could be considered a little expensive in comparison to the likes of Witherspoon. But the add on feature was fantastic, for £2 extra you could choose a starter or dessert. So for £12 for a starter and main I was impressed, especially when I saw what food was coming out! Settling on a prawn starter and veggie roast dinner I trotted to the bar. Wow… I thought I’d died and gone to beer heaven. Lots to choose from, from deadly ale, craft beers, strawberry beer, cider… and a million other things. Despite its busyness staff were attentive, polite and helpful recommending beverages Returning to the table with beers in hand, it was not long before our food arrived. I smelled the garlic way before I even saw the prawns, they were fantastically flavoured and guaranteed to keep the vampires away. These devoured, the great Yorkshire pudding mountain appeared, looming over a veggie nut roast and tasty parsnips and broccoli… supported by roasties. the quality and price put a smile on my face. My friend had the soup and sandwich deal for £10 and everything looked fresh and vibrant. All three of us were impressed by the quality for such a great price, the choice of beer and that rustic atmosphere. I will come again for a Sunday roast at least .

Knott Bar isn’t in my direct drinking vicinity, so I have never been but, when suggested as a meet up point for some quick pre-Brewdog bash drinks, I was more than happy to check it out. I was cat-called by someone leaving as I was going in, so it was never going to be a happy experience as, unfortunately, this is now my impression of their patrons. If I had been going for a drink on my own or even meeting up with a friend, I would have suggested leaving. However, as there was a group of us I was happy enough to go in and sit myself down. Service was slow and we were overlooked a couple of times, before one(out of the two) servers disappeared from the bar completely. Luckily, company was great as ever, and the I like the décor of the bar. I won’t be rushing back, which seems a shame compared to the other reviews here, but maybe I’ll return in the future.

I am a regular visitor to Knott and I’ve always walked in with reasonably high expectations and walked out with a satisfied smile. Knott is located off Deansgate, kind of across the street from Beetham Towers, towards Castlefield. Easily accessible by bus, tram and train and conveniently located in the city centre. A usual routine for me and my friends on a few saturdays over some time has been a film at AMC followed by food and drink in Knott. Food: I’ve always gone for the burgers(bang bang chicken or lamb) with poato wedges. The burgers have been consistently good, despite the crowd. Beer: They have a wide selection of regular and guest ales and very often know what they’re talking about. If in doubt, ask. They also have other beers, wines and spirits. Atmosphere: If you’re looking to have a few or a lot of drinks with friends and indulge in conversation, this place is great. They have music in the background but it’s in the background, not deafeningly loud so as to impede conversation. Staff: Staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. They know what they’re talking about and are passionate about it. Tip: If you plan to eat there, get there early or ring them and reserve a table.

This bar is one I think of as my local, even though I live several miles away in South Manchester. It has a unique location under one of the rail arches on Castle St. You can hear the faint rumble of trains rolling overhead which only adds to the atmosphere. Unlike a lot of Manchester pubs it doesn’t try to be cool or cater to one particular demographic. They value good quality food and very reasonable prices and a decent range of keg an cask beers. Their pride adorns the walls with beer memorabilia, pump clips and bottles everywhere. Their cook(chef?) Oz is renowned for his food/drink pairing evenings which are booked out months in advance, known as Oz’s Epicurean Nights. They are exceptional and not to be missed. It can be busy, but this is really hit and miss as the crowd ebbs and flows on their way into the city from South Manchester. I’ve been in on a Saturday afternoon and found it rammed or half empty with almost unpredictable variety. It is however well worth the effort to stick your head in though. The Knott is a ‘must’ stop on any trip around Manchester’s pubs and bars of note. I’ve regularly brought friends travelling from abroad here to get a feel for the Manchester bar scene and to see what a well priced, fantastically cellared cask beer can be like, and I’m seldom left disappointed by the trip.

This has to be my favourite pub in Manchester. I don’t get there nearly often enough(it’s just in the wrong part of town for me) but I love it when I’m there. What I love about it is fairly simple: beer and atmosphere. They always have a great range of beers in(lagers and real ales). The prices are reasonable. The staff are friendly. It feels homely and cosy in there, and personally I find the intermittent rumbling from the trains really soothing. I’ve eaten here once and the food was great: simple, tasty stuff like steak sandwiches and burgers(and other things not made of cow that I can’t remember).

This place is a bonefide Mancunian institution. The only thing better than the food is the awesome choice of craft beers! I’ve had some great times here, especially on the sun terrace. The only thing stopping a fifth star is that it’s a little pricey… if you inadvertently order the wrong beer you can be looking at around £6…yeah… Stay away from Cherry lager… or friends who drink it!

Wow this place is popular, and must admit I am totally upgrading my opinion from my last visit. Very unique setting beneath he railway arches. Good range of beers at what seems a far better price, beer well kept too. Very lively crowd good mix of young and old, I would call the general crowd intelligencia :) and drunkards.

I’d visited Knott several times in my pre-Yelp a.k.a dark days and had always enjoyed drinking in there. If my company had its office in the city centre, this would likely be our equivalent of ‘Cheers’(I’d be that fat bloke due to ordering my lunch there daily). Tucked under the railway arches yet deceptively spacious, it’s got a chilled out vibe whilst still feeling like a homely pub, with loads of breweriana and Ramones posters displayed around the place. The food is good there, really good in fact — as are the real ales and craft beers that would be the main reason for going in the first place(discovered a Rochdale brewed one thanks to a mate’s eagle eye, I’m all for supporting ‘the Motherland’). FYI it’s Pictish Brewing Company. So if you find yourself stepping off the metro at Deansgate-Castlefield, cross over the tracks, go down the steps, cross the road and head straight there. It’s a cracker. If you still need convincing, it recently made it into The Guardian’s top 10 craft beer pubs in Manchester. Tip: For designated drivers, there’s car parking down Castle Street(pay and display).

I love Knott bar. Definitely up there in my fav spots in town. It has all I want in a good pub, great rotating selection of beers(kegs, casks and bottles), great gloomy atmosphere. It’s clean but Indie trash a bit with the trainline directly above it. The staff are always good fun and the food is consistantly good for the money. I had an hour to kill and needed to get some food before a wine tasting on a rainy night, Knott sorted us out nicely with a great pulled pork burger type sandwich for £5.95 and a great beer from Buxton. Their chicken chorizo used to be to die for although I think the recipe has lost that little sparkle that made it special but I’ve never figured out what made it so good in the first place and it is still pretty damn good now. The missus and I keep saying that we truly didn’t make the best of it when we were living in Castlefield. Too right. A great place where any excuse will do to squeeze a cheeky pint… or more

Knott bar is our favourite Manchester pub, probably because they serve draught Erdinger(why others don’t is beyond me) and Kriek cheery beer on draught too, they also serve decent food at resonable prices. Iserving a huge selection of real ales a atmospheric pub at the junction into the pretentious Castlefield and en route(when walking) to Old Trafford. It just pips the Lass O Gowrie.

As a worshipper of the Real Beer Goods I’m fairly certain I’m supposed to tell you aaaaaaaall about the beer here. The beers great, I love it. Awesome now we’ve got that bit out the way I want to tell you about something else. The Foods deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelicous, I was playing catch up with some Gents having arrived late, they advised me they’d had brilliant food, but time was against us so I opted for a ‘Small Plate’ option off the menu, Pulled Pork, Potatoe Salad, Corn Fritters. now looking at the Knots décor I was expecting a something, I don’t really know what but, what arrived was not what I expected. The presentation was what initially set me back, I was surprised how they’d laid it out, it looked more like I was in some form of restaurant in the centre of town not some Ale pub on the outskirts of the city centre immediately I realised I’d misjudged my thought process of just some stodge to see me through OHMYGOD the pulled pork was tasty, so so so soooo tasty. Definitely need to go back for more food now I know what it’s like, and I’m pretty sure if I go with the Small plates menu that means I can have two of them? that’s how that works yah?

Only been the once and didnt make the most of all the facilities — such as the balcony area upstairs. Its a nice enough pub and is always busy. Its won various awards so must be good. Some of the people I was with had food which looked good and they said it was very tasty. I just had a couple drinks. Prices seemed a bit high. £3.95 for a bottle of Becks!!? A pint of Carlsberg for £3.50.
