This Sainsbury’s Local store is one of the main supermarket owned stores in the station and one of 2 more newsagents types shop, along with WHsmith, and a Little Waitrose which is just outside the station, in the run up to the shops. This store has lost some of its potential since Waitrose opened up, who seem to have better offers including a free newspaper and hot drink. This Sainsbury’s was refurbished not that long ago, and now has a Bakery and a few other in store departments, which are still quite small but still there. This store mainly has a good range of some products, some a little more expensive, and is just your average more corner shop, which could be good to pick up a few things for your train. The range isn’t as good as WHsmith and Waitrose, where better, good value products are available, and a better range for travel, with this more of a local corner shop compared to the other two. It is a good size store, but still is the third choice in the station, with higher pricing on certain goods and longer queues, I’d say if you’re looking for last minute food and drinks, this isn’t your best bet at Piccadilly.

This store has recently grown, and now I can never find any of the things I want, plus it is still a little confusing to use with tills in the middle of the store, but in really difficult location. At least by adding another door they have made it easier to leave. I think the staff are still struggling with the new layout too as they seem incapable to telling you where to find things too. The self service tills have never been successful here, but the alternative staffed tills are even worse on the whole, I have kind of given u shopping here as it always takes so much more time to find what you are looking for and then work out how the hell the tills are working, plus the queuing here just fails, with customs pushing in and no clear signage about where you are meant to wait. I live and hope that they get better organised so that I can update my review with better news in the future. They have at least made an effort to add a salad bar and hot food section, but they are just not up to standard at the moment.

I was hesitant to try grocery shopping at Piccadilly Station, but this store resolved my concern! They have pretty good deals, and a decent selection of foods(including fresh fruits and vegetables). I wish there was a Sainsbury’s Superstore within walking distance in place of all the multiple Sainsbury’s Local stores, but this will do.

One Two Three Four Five Six Seven… It doesn’t matter what time of day I pop in this Sainsburys, there always seems to be a queue. In the morning it’s usually filled with travellers clutching muffins, bagels and Innocent smoothies. Late afternoon to early evening, it’s packed with people stocking up on pizzas, salads, ready meals and bottles of wine and beer. This afternoon, I was amongst the latter and during the seven and a half minutes I had to wait to be served, I nearly dropped the bottles of cava I was trying to juggle with my coat and bag. Thanks to my sweetheart — who caught the bottles in time! No thanks to Sainsburys — who sell great cava and chocolate but need to employ more staff!

A Small Sainsbury’s store, Located inside Piccadilly Train Station in Manchester. The Shop is Ideal for any last minutes bits you need before getting on Train, or picking up a bit of shopping on the way home. They have a good selction of pre packed sandwiches, Fruit packets, cakes and salads for anyone hungry while travelling. They stock a limited range of household cleaning products, toiletries, bread, dairy produce and ready meals, Flowers, meats and ready made salads. Also stocked is beers, wines and spirits, all at a fairly reasonable price. Some of the beers and wines are stored in the fridge. They also Sell Tabbaco and Lottery. The Shop is always Quite busy, but is well kept and always neat and tidy, there is always pleanty of staff working the tills and they are always friendly and happy to help.

As someone who uses trains a lot I’m always very grateful of this little Sainsburys at Piccadilly Station. On the way out I can grab a quick bite to eat to save the massive expense of train food and when I get in(usually with a hangover) on a Sunday evening close to closing time this seems the perfect time to pick up some amazing bargains… Sainsburys are always really good at reducing their fresh fruit and veg too which is perfect when trying to replenish those lost vitamins…
