Great kebabs, much bigger and tastier than most places on the curry mile. Its one of those spots which bas built up a reputation as well, which probably explains the recent rise in prices. For me Kebabish and Abduls are as good, no better I must add, but as good, and they are marginally cheaper. However, if you want to go to one of the well renowned places in the well renowned kebab centre of Manchester, then Sadaf is one to visit. I say go once, or take visitors to Manchester, but seek(no pun intended) other alternatives for regular munching.

I remember dropping into good old Sadaf’s every evening after a night out in first year. It was our gang’s little takeaway place, with its £2 pizzas and Kobeda nans. Good, good memories. Recently though Akram is right, it has been steadily increasing the prices and I’m not too sure why. It’s not a recent thing either in fitting with the economic crash, it’s been going on since the end of my second year. So that would be early 2007. No other place seems to do this, so it seems to be doing a Kansas Chicken and randomly raising prices to be different. I feel guilty saying this though because it is one of the best takeaway in Rusholme, possibly even the best, although Caspian is good. Maybe that’s the privilege of being top dog, but for the sake of all the students who will otherwise be put off from such a fine establishment, I hope they see sense soon.

Sadaf is without a doubt one of the best places in Rusholme, yet recently its prices have been increasing reducing the bang for buck ratio. The standard rice offered on most meals has a moist and flavourful taste that compliments any dish you choose and is great for taking home to serve on the side of anything you might make. Every few months I visit the prices seem to have gone up and for that reason i’m not giving it a 5 star review. Other than that, can’t fault this place.

The thing that’s good about Sadaf is when you look in you’ll always see people; not just drunk students but Indian families and just the general public, all enjoying a meal. I’ve always been told that the mark of a good chinese meal is governed by the amount of Chinese people eating it. The same rule must apply here; Indian families come here with young children to eat the kebab with rice. The chicken kebab is the main reason I kept going back. You can have it with rice or in a naan, and both look very appetising. The chicken is fresh and brilliantly marinated and the salad is not brown and droopy — a rarity which definitely puts Sadaf off to a flying start. Moreover, the staff are friendly and seem happy to work there, which is a good sign and a change from the usual kebab shop workers you see at about 2am in the morning. Superseded only by Abdul’s, Sadaf delivers delicious kebabs time after time(although they might have a gentle joke with you if you’re too timid to try the chillis)
