Wasn’t expecting great Chinese food being from Los Angeles where Asian food is extremely good and accessible. However, this place surprised me(despite my initial worry with the lack of customers … granted I came around 9pm on a weekday). Every dish we ordered was packed full of flavor. Kung pao chicken was delicious, though it was a bit too sauced up for my taste. Sliced pork szechuan style was definitely my favorite dish we ordered. I could do without the onions piled up on the bottom though Water spinach was standard My friend who ordered the hot and sour soup said it was the best one he’s ever had(but he’s white and from Texas so I take it with a grain of salt heh) Pan fried dumplings were also tasty. If you’re inkling for some authentic asian food, definitely give this place a shot.

We came with a feeling of anticipation as in 2010 this restaurant was getting good reviews in Unilocal and was in the Good Food Guide. Well we were disappointed. Basic service, ribs starter inedible, bland and pre-cooked and microwaved. We sent them back to the kitchen. Chilli pork main which had three chilli caution on the menu, bland! All served with a warm bottle of wine and two pint glasses of water(classy). The only dishes worth eating were plain noodles and beef in black pepper sauce. The waiting staff spent all night on their mobile phones and every time the door opens there is the most annoying shop floor buzzer! Two amazing points, the staff clean clean the tables with rubber gloves(in front of the customers) and of course, the coffee machine was broken. The final two insults happened when the bill came. First they charged us for the ribs which we convinced them to remove, but as the staff(including the chef) had been on their mobile phones the whole meal we asked them to remove the 10% service charge. They refused to do this, by now we were so annoyed we decided just to pay and get out as quick as we could. Now we understand why this place is not in the 2012 Good Food Guide. We will never return and recommend staying away. Better restaurants have closed for less.

Agreed, really nice Chinese restaurant. One of the better in Chinatown. I visited the area two nights running, once to come here and once to go to the noodle and sushi bar across the road, and had two diverse experiences. Whilst my time at the noodle bar was woeful, featuring high prices, rubbish food and off beer, my meal here was a delight. It’s a restaurant you could easily miss as well, as its only really a doorway with a sign, but inside its lovely, and much posher than it looks from outside. Basically it’s the place to be a bit adventurous. They do all the Chinese delicacies and they have had no scruples in keeping to tradtion. Can’t understand why they wouldn’t keep to tradition anyway? How about… ducks tounge? Maybe… shredded hot & spicy pig’s tripe? Still not put off, how about slices of pigs ear in sesame oil?! You’ve gotta have an open mind, but just go for it. Everything we had was delicious. Though its not cheap, you don’t get many places like this, so its worth it. There has been no Anglicisation of the authentic Szechuan cuisine here.

A fine purveyor of Szechuan cuisine, which is one of my favey daves. R&H offers a pretty extensive menu of tasty dishes, with the ever helpful ‘chilliometer’ to alert you to super-spicy foods. The boyf swears by the chilliometer, and on one occasion refused to order food until he was given a vocal chilliometer by the waiter. So, you know, good work with the chilliometer, R&H. The menu is very good, offering such delicacies as eels and duck tongue(euwwwww!) alongside the more workaday ribs, prawns and whatnot. The prices here are more than I expected, with it being in a none-too-shiny area of Chinatown, and not being all to sexy itself. Expect to pay over £5 per starter while mains are all around the £7-£10 mark, depending on what you’re having. My sizzling black pepper beef(£8.50) really hit the spot, and the boyf paticularly enjoyed his salt and pepper king prawn dish. The egg fried rice was amongst the best I’ve had in Manchester, so kudos. The atmosphere is OK, but I feel like maybe we came at a bad time, earlyish on a Tuesday. I can see that it does have the potential to be quite a happening place if busy. The staff are incredibly helpful, and service is super fast. Drinkswise, you can bring your own, but they charge £10 if you do so! Shocker. You’re better off having the house wine, £10, which is alright. Pints of the usual(Tiger, Grolsch, Bud) are a reasonable £2.50. Cutely, they offer Bacardi Breezers and the like, under the heading«Romantic Drinks», yeah, romantic for a school disco! R&H is good, and well worth a visit for the food alone, but if you’re aafter a buzzing, fun atmosphere, this ain’t the place.

A very nice surprise. Came across this place while checking out Manchester’s Chinatown… and a right proper Chinatown it is. This place is the real deal. Full-on Szechuan food in all it’s tongue numbing, fiery, yet nuanced goodness. They also have restaurants in Birmingham and London.

My favourite Chinese restaurant in Manchester. I spent a month in China last year and this resaurant is the most authentic Chinese food I’ve found since that trip. Although they specialise in the spicy Sichuan food they do offer non hot food as well. Miles better than the Anglosized restaurants. Be careful though, it may spoil Chinese takeaways for you!

I would highly reccommend this place. It’s not your usual bog standard boring Chinese restaurant. The menu is really exciting and different. The food tasted delicious and you could really taste the ingredients. It was well balanced and you could tell there was nothing strange just real food. Yum yum!
