Fantastic service and great food. I ordered the chicken with Cashew nuts. The dish is traditionally very neutral, so I can’t comment on the flavor profile, however the textures were absolutely there. My favorite part of Asian culture when visiting is how involved mealtimes are. All the dishes, smells, people, and sounds come together to orchestrate a fantastic experience. This visit absolutely delivered a proper experience! I haven’t yet been to Hong Kong, however the experience here can relate to some more upscale places in Beijing. Highly recommended!

So after an evening out in town, admittedly after a few drinks, friends and I decided to have some Chinese food. There were 5 of us and we were very hungry and ordered a lot of food. Unfortunately, we ended uat Pearl City. Sadly the food was rather delicious. I mean really the food was really good. However, the what can only be described as aggressive and unreasonably confrontational, what I can only assume is a potential manager of this establishment ruined the whole evening that we had. The restaurant was dead, we were literally the only table there and had a large food order — to be told to keep the noise down. Completely unappreciated and exceptionally rude. The wait staff were fantastic and completely helpful, however this senior member of staff totally ruined our evening.

China town, I don’t tend to ever go to you. I’m sorry about this, just if I’m eating out the Siren like temptation of the BBQ places in town tug at my belly strings and I just can’t say no, indeed I think the last time I went was many years ago to the Yang Sing and while that was good it’s certainly an emptier of the coffers. So a bit of a last minute situation, Saturday afternoon the family had come up to visit the Squire of the North and decided we were going out that night, unsurprisingly getting a booking was not coming together at such late notice. I didn’t know anything about pearl city, I’d never been, in fact only just about remembered where it was when heading there. On the outside, you’d be forgiven for turning about face and walking away, there’s nothing inviting about the place, indeed it looks potentially even a little rundown, when compared to the plethora of new build restaurants and eateries springing up around our fair city. But do not be fooled, this is place is utterly the old skool chinese restaurant I remember from my youth, and it’s just as tasty as I remember. The foods good, not mind blowing, but good. The prices are pleasant, the service is ok. And there’s a pretty surefire good sign to this place, the vast majority of the tables were filled with people of an oriental nature. It’s a very simple formula — go with what people know, if people of the family ethnicity go there you’re pretty certain it’s got to be good. Pearl City now will be where I think of if I need a bit of chinese in the city centre

Can’t go wrong with that awesome lunch deal! A big bowl of delicious soup(your choice from three varieties), a good portion of delicious food served with white or fried rice(lots of entrée choices), AND a scoop of tasty ice cream to top it all off, all for a fiver. I’ve been to Pearl City twice so far just to get their lunch deal — after finding it the first time around, it hooked me and I knew I’d become a frequent customer. As I mentioned, the portions are generous and the food is really tasty to boot. I love the duck with pineapple, though their curries are just as good. They have something for everyone, and I’m surprised it’s not busier than it usually is for a mid-week lunch. Nice interior and friendly staff, smiles all around. Conveniently located in the middle of Chinatown, so you’re not far from the heart of Manchester. I have yet to enjoy a proper meal here(i.e. evening dinner), but it’s on the to-do list.

The furnishings are quite uninviting and give the impression that the restaurant is not very hygienic. But considering the food that impression flies away immediately. Very delicious buffet for a very good price! Takeaway also recommended!

Went here on Saturday for friends birthday. Had«Chinese hot Pot» aka Steamboat. We were in a private room with a karaōke which had a wide selection of songs — English & Chinese songs. I think maybe also some others e.g. Korean but not 100% sure

Right in the heart of Manchester’s Chinatown lies Pearl City, the best place to take someone fussy with its absolute mountain of dish choices. Having been in need of a lick of paint in the past this has been attended to, and the environment is very pleasant and warm. Here you’ll get big portions at great value. It’s perhaps not the most sophisticated of Chinese dining experiences but there are plenty of places you can go to for that at a higher cost(Wing’s flagship restaurant being a good example) — this is a place to come in groups of friends and have a good, sociable time. The hot and sour soup comes highly recommended as it’s beyond delicious, and the egg fried rice is particularly stunning, fluffy and light with no hint of greasiness. With so much to choose from however, especially in terms of sides and starters, it’s worth going for a banquet if there’s a bunch of you. That way you don’t feel as if you’re missing out on anything, and the prices range from £16.50 to £33.50 for the lobster bonanza. It’s a great option if you need to take the weight off and unwind after a weekend shop or organise a merry get-together, and it’s one of Chinatown’s longest running establishments.

Pearl city is one of the oldest established Chinese restaurants in the city. Located up a very long, rickety flight of stairs, this restaurant is like an oasis. I get the feeling this place has been recently refurbished: the décor is simple and they’ve included some lovely oversized Chinese art to give it a more sophisticated and austere feel, which works well. The staff are dressed in smart uniform and there’s now a full bar which I think is a new addition. The menu, when you first look at it, can be a little overwhelming. The 10 page menu offers no less than 270 dishes, but if you want some help ordering, the waitress is more than happy to make suggestions. I had the fried beef with satay sauce and stir-fried vermicelli with bean sprouts which whilst very generous is portion size, were nothing out of the ordinary. I’ll come back and try again though, with this many dishes on the menu I’m sure it can be hit and miss.

Everything about Pearl City is standard manila. That’s not quite true, actually, because the staff are great — very attentive and up for a laugh. That’s why I’m giving it three stars and not a two and a half. Situated on the edge of Manchester’s Chinatown, near the Grosvenor Casino, you enter up some 1980’s style stairs. Now, the room is a fairly large L shape, and apart from some elegant pillars, which do at least give it an air of idiosyncrasy, that’s pretty much it. Crucially, there’s no bar. This may not be important to you if, as most people do, you pitch up with your loved one or a bunch of mates, but if you happen to have friends like mine that say they will be there 7.30pm and actually get there after eight, then it can be a long wait sat at a table set for fourteen for 35 minutes. I nearly put my iPod on. Not the best place to be in the middle of the Christmas nights out, although I did get one invitation from a nearby work’s outing — thank you. Anyway, back to the review food was average, could have done with some more, was a bit pricey and the surroundings were mediocre. I would have to consult my thesaurus for more words to describe ‘average’ if I had to go any further, but as it’s Christmas I would suggest that the good atmosphere was down to the time of year. Anyway, thanks to the staff they get a three.
