I only visited this Morrisons once when I was living near the city centre in Salford. It made me rather sad. As you can see from the previous review I’m something of a Morrisons fan. Well sulk no longer, ELH! I now live a mere two miles from this Morrisons and that makes me one happy bean. There are three things that make this supermarket so ace. 1) The deals. As in, better than half price deals. Ben and Jerry’s for £2, well, I’ll break my lactose issues for a pint of the low fat froyo at least. And don’t even get me started on the wine. We hit the flo’, next thing ya know prices got low-low-low-low-low-low-low-low… 2) The selection. Seriously, this is a proper supermarket-sized deal and therefore means that there’s shedloads of choice. Okay, so a few things were running out when I went earlier this eve, but when I find my uncle’s go-to curry ingredients from East End in their international section I’m more than satisfied. 3) The location. It’s nice walking down Wilbraham Road. The houses are dead big and well posh and everything, and it’s not far from Oddest, The Bar, The Nook and such… I spent far too long ambling about in here. Well, now I have a triangle of go-to supermarkets in the South Suburbs. Sainsburys in Fallowfield and Tesco in East Didsbury, welcome your new brother to the family. Morrisons in Chorlton!

I have lived opposite this Morrisons for 18 months now. To begin with I wasn’t a huge fan — due to the more limited range and more expensive prices than Asda just down th’road. However, here are three things that won me over: 1) The fresh fish counter: something that Morrisons do better than any other British supermarket. On going here to pick up some supplies for a barbeque one of my persuasive friends managed to haggle with the guy on the fish counter for a deal on a bag full of delicious monkfish, salmon, calamari and other fishy treats. It might not work every time, but it was nice to see an essence of the high street within such a large chain. 2) The 9p bread: if you go to the store between 8 and 9pm on a weekday evening then everything from tiger rolls to baguettes will be reduced to 9p. Be prepared to jostle with other fans of the 9p bread. 3) The salad bar: a help yourself salad buffet with delights ranging from boiled eggs to bacon bits. This is always well stocked and is very good value, however I have been slightly put off after seeing a lady using her plastic spork to sample each salad before buying. So, it would be five stars for the fish, bread and salad, but the customer service is not so great. After being charged twice for something, I made a complaint at the customer services desk. The staff were unfriendly, unhelpful and unapologetic, but at least I eventually got my money back!

I popped into Morrisons last week on the off chance they’d have ingredients for Nigella’s mouthwatering chocolate Christmas cake. Not only did they have dried currants, raisins, prunes, oranges, candied peel, nutmeg, cocoa powder, flour, brown sugar and unsalted butter for significantly cheaper than other supermarkets but they had specials on bottles of rum and prosecco too. I fed the cakes the rum and drank the bottles of Prosecco over Christmas. The latter were so good I went back to get more for New Year and was disappointed to see the price had gone from £4.99 back up to RRP of £9.99. Luckily, they had some bottles of Australian Shiraz on special — which I will be cracking open in a few hours!
