I went to the Trafford Centre branch and bought my son a small RC car. When I got home, 12 miles away, it didn’t work, only turning right, it wouldn’t turn left.(On a side note, this is the 2nd item I’ve bought from ModelZone and the second item that’s been faulty, that’s so far, a 100% failure rate from cheap Chinese high margin products) I thought I’d take the toy back to the deansgate branch because it’s closer to me than the Trafford centre. When I got there, after the guy upstairs quizzed me on the fault, and tried to find batteries to prove I’m not lying, couldn’t find batteries and sent me downstairs to prove it, I went downstairs and explained the problem to them. They(Paul wasn’t here at this point) said to go and find another, and come back with it. When I got back, Paul was there(the other guy was busy) after me being stood there waiting while Paul is doing nothing but looking unapproachable, for about 5 minutes, he finally noticed me and shouted me over. He had an assuming and arrogant tone of voice throughout inspecting the cheap £12.99 car. When it was proven that the car didn’t work properly, I’d chosen a more expensive car £30, and wanted to pay the difference, he needed me to sign a receipt, something pretty common in retail stores now. So I signed it and handed it back. He smiled and slid the paper back to me, saying no, — you need to give us your full name and address. I refused to give my address, party down to principle of not needing to legally,(I’d bought a product, it didn’t work, if I was homeless with no fixed abode, or a traveller, am I unable to return a faulty item?) and party due to his attitude. When I refused my address, Paul argued that It’s simple, no address, no refund At this point, the other guy facing Paul as if I didn’t exist said with a smirking face This could go on all day couldn’t it? as if to indicate the futility of my efforts to get a refund for another faulty ModelZone product. Paul said to go back to the Trafford centre branch this is outrageous, he’s completely defeating the object of a store chain here, and also suggesting another branch would do the refund when he wouldn’t. He also kept referring to the branch as My shop. I explained if I had to go back to the Trafford Centre branch for a refund, then the total drive to get the car, and then go to deansgate, then to the Trafford centre and back would have been 46 miles, which in my car the cost of fuel alone would have easily equalled the cost of the product. He replied that it wasn’t his problem, while staring me out and chewing gum in an aggressive door man like stance. In all, avoid this branch and if you’ve no choice, avoid the arrogant spikey haired idiot.

Stepping through the little door I’m transported back to being a kid, Lego, scalex-trix and bouncy balls overcome me. This was the place you always wanted to visit at the age of 10 but there was never the time as your mum rushed from shop to shop. Now at the age of 20 I can finally banish this demon and walk in whenever I want, I can buy a model kit such as one of the glue together spit fire models. I can make it this time to a good standard just as I dreamed, I can paint it with all the love of a child yet the dexterity of an adult(I hope) and then hang it up in my room. Before you think I’m a weirdo I haven’t done this, alas I have only browsed. Model zone has every kind of vehicle in this solar system in model form, with paints and glues gal lour you could spend a lifetime as a child here.
