Iced Out – Cakeaw

Two stars is me being kind. This place is over priced and really rather boring. However much the cake is cake, it is either unexciting or too rich with no in-​between. As a home cook/​baker I tend to believe that cake should be nice and not generic if you are going to go to the trouble of buying it, this is not what you will get here. Not helped by it being fairly obvious that even the cheesecake is bought in (man carrying cheesecakes through when I ordered) and to be fair I can pretty up cheesecake at home with a bit of cream and chocolate, I really wish this place would sort themselves out.
I suspect one of the problems faced by this place is the sheer quantity of things on there very small print menu, I really wish placed would learn to stick to what you do well and do variants on that, unfortunately these days businesses think that in order to grow they should dilute their good menu and make it massive, stick to what you know people.
I suppose the reason I am angry is that a 2 person desert and a chocolate milkshake should not cost the same price as getting a meal for two from most takeaways. I think that I could go to pretty much any city centre café and pick up 2 bits of cake and a milkshake and still be be able to get change from a tenner, unlike here where you would be searching for change from £16 if you were lucky.
Over priced and boring… just not the kind of review anyone would want. When this was a small store (they moved to new premises a few years ago) I used to recommend you as a place to buy party cakes from, never again. I need to say it again BORING!
