Hong Kong City is a classic Chinese Takeaway situated between Withington and Didsbury along the Wilmslow Road. Its one of those places that feels like it would appear in an terrible soap opera from the 1980s, a business that none of the characters ever go in, but can always be seen next to the corner shop, with its steamed up windows, fading sign, and rotting Chinese calendar hanging in the window. Inside, its just the same, with a white waiting area and a couple of ageing menus and magazines from bygone years. The food is excellent, and very greasy. No pretences are made at healthy, and you probably wont feel great after eating it, but if it’s a proper greasy old-style Chinese you’re after, then Hong Kong City is the place for you.
