Gregory’s Laundry

Awful, spent hours in here for my clothes to come out not clean. I informed the staff who’s solution was I paid £12 for a service wash. I’d avoid this place. So went round the corner to the one by ladybarn Coop, helpful staff, free Wifi, TV and a free coffee!

For almost a year, I lived in a tiny flat with no washing machine. As a girl who loves her clothes (and who is apt to drop food on most items thereof) this was a pretty hard deal for me. Luckily, Gregory’s was close at hand for all my laundry needs.
It’s a very simple laundrette, with both standard and large washing machines and tumble driers, and the prices are reasonable. Large washes are £2.20 and small £1.60; you can easily fit twice as much in the large machine so it’s worth the extra 60p. The driers are 50p for 10 minutes, which seems steep, but you’ll probably only need 2 or 3 10 minute cycles. If you forget your washing powder, there’s a dispensing machine that gives enough for a wash for 50p.
There are no bells and whistles here, just laundry. If you’re brave enough to leave your laundry, the washing machines give you enough time to pop to the pub and grab a pint or two. Being as we are both very lazy, the boyf and I would do our weekend washing when the football was on, timing it so that in half-​time we could dash to the laundrette to pick up the washed clothes, then drop it off at home. It was a system that worked.
The washing machines lock, but the driers don’t. Additionally, the driers are in high demand, so if you’re not around when your drying finishes, you could come back to find your damp laundry has been deposed for someone else’s. Not fun.
The dry cleaning service is good value, better than the Johnsons Dry Cleaners a bit further along. Expect to pay around £8 to get your posh frock done, and £15 for a coat. They also launder curtains and upholstery. The alteration service is well priced too, from £3 for hemming, and they’re clearly just charging for the time and the materials, no hidden extras.
This is a nice, friendly local laundrette, staffed by a great bunch of people who are always willing to help.
