This is probably the worst place I’ve ever eaten at in the UK. I’d give it no stars if possible. I went here with my Malaysian Chinese friend and her family and they were not impressed at all either. This restaurant is very dirty. They sat us down on a table that still had dirty dishes. The carpet was also dirty. We had to ask more than once for them to clean the table. It was very difficult to find someone who spoke English. The service was slow. The food was not good. There’s a lot more places with better Chinese food. Avoid this place.

Just stopped by for lunch with my Pa for Chinese New Year lunch and the place was already heaving with mainly Chinese families with the same idea. We didn’t book but was given a raffle number and we waited for about 15 minutes for a table. The place is normally quite busy on Sundays(family day) or Mondays(Chinese takeaways’ rest day). We come here because there’s here or Tai Pan to choose from for dim sum, grocery shopping and free parking. The classic dim sum trolley is how dim sum was served up in Hong Kong so for our family, this restaurant offers some nostalgia but the variety and quality of dim sum really is no match. It is good if you know exactly what you want and don’t want to wait to eat. However, when the restaurant is so packed and there are only 4 trolleys, each with their own offerings, you still have to wait for them to be wheeled round. It can still be quite intimidating for non-Chinese even though they have a laminated card with English in it but you can order with a waiter if you know exactly what you want. In addition to the classic Prawn Dumplings and Siu Mai, I would recommend the Shanghai Dumplings — bite-size steamed parcels containing pork and a hot juicy meat consommé that is served with black vinegar to cut through the fattiness. The egg tarts is also a favourite but here they are not crispy enough. The Prawn Cheung Fun is also a staple to try — it is a steamed cannelloni that’s prawn wrapped in rice pastry sheets but here the texture is not silky enough and is prepared slightly too thick. There are Char Siu(BBQ roast pork) and other meaty variations of this dish on offer here. The service is okay and the restaurant needs updating but the food is great and quite reasonable priced, so it gets 3 stars!

Trolleys were not ready until 12pm serving Monday, Tuesday and weekends. Noisy with busy staff around. Dim sum tastes OK, noodle soup was terrible.

Up until writing this review I was really keen to give this a four, but now after googling it to see what other people thought of it and seeing quite horrendous news on mouse feces in the kitchen I am not so sure anymore. But just let me report on what actually happened during the night, absolutely unbiased: I´ve headed over with a big group from work the other day and actually had a good time. We shared two of the big tables and ordered as group, after some recommendations and shared everything. I found food to be really nice and most of it was served at the same time, piping hot and fresh. Other than that service was quite unattentive, which didn’t bother us, but if I was coming back for dinner with my family it may have been an issue. Food quality was definitely up with places like Ocean Treasure and Red Chili. The duck was extremely tender and so was the salt and pepper squid. Overall we paid just short of 13 pound each for an absolutely gorgeous meal. The décor is slightly less european, and glamorously tacky. If you like fine dining and want to take your girlfriend out, head to Ocean Treasure. If you are a Chinese family looking to host a wedding, perfect place. Sometimes you just can´t really compare restaurants to one another and in this case this place is just good at what it does. Its more than just an OK place.

After a fairly successful run to Tai Pan the thought of trying this place for dim sum sounded like an epic idea. First off it is quite confusing to get into the place, and when you do arrive you better pray that you prebooked a table. This place is immensley popuiar with the Chinese, especially on a Sunday. Approaching this massive round table, I found it laden with numerous dishes with waiters running back and forth with bingo looking cards. Basically they would walk up to you and ask what dim sum you wanted and marked off a secret number on the card. It was dfficult to specify what you wanted as there were five different types of prawn dumpling for example but no description to differentiate them on the menu. The quality of the food was very inconsistent. To be honest you would be much better off going to the supermarket underlying at, and buying your food from there. They sell massive trays of tasty looking dim sum and excellent sake. I will rate the Wing Yip 4 starts for its value for money and variety but I really did not enjoy the restaurant itself.

Glamorous is located above the much beloved Wing Yip supermarket and, like Tai Pan down on Upper Bridge Street, was packed on Sunday with families having dim sum. Unlike Tai Pan, Glamorous has traditional trolley service which is really fun for your first time having dim sum, and helpful too as you can see what’s on offer. Unfortunately, we were ushered to a corner table that they did not bring the trolleys too but instead came over to us with laminated cards with unhelpful English descriptions of what was on the trolley. The quality of the dim sum was generally good but the cheong fun was seriously sub par — way too much rice noodle versus filling. Much better can be had at Tai Pan which overall still reigns supreme for dim sum in Manchester in my view. Next up for dim sum club: Pacific!

Corn here for Sunday dim sum — don’t be afraid to ask what things are There’s parking, East Asian supermarket on the ground floor, close to city centre but away from the madness, usually you can get a table(except around Chinese holidays when it gets crazy!). The Chinese restaurants in Manchester are now mostly much of a muchness, dearer than they need to be and the food is okay. I’ve had better in London and at home, but when going to Glamorous is about more than just the food — which is good — but also atmosphere and location. On Sundays the dim sum carts go round the whole floor and it’s a good time to try things that you never have before.

This was by far the WORST over priced meal I have ever had. There was that much salt in the food it was totally unpallatable. The beef curry was a congealed mess that had to be scooped onto the plate in blobs The spare ribs were nothing more than fat and gristle in a water sauce A TOTALRIPOFF in my opinion Surroundings are far from glamorous. The place is dated and dirty

Large, but not so glamorous, restaurant above a large Chinese Supermarket with a multi-storey car park. The value was good, and the portions were large, but I don’t feel the food was as good as other restaurants in the area: some of the dishes were a bit bland which is odd for a Chinese. The service too was a bit hap-hazard with some staff good and many not. Personally, I’d go elsewhere.

We were here for a wedding reception dinner and it was really quite good. The tables were glamorously laid out too, with ornate style cutlery and chopsticks. And the Lazy Susans on each table(a rotating glass tray in the middle of the table, very typical of Chinese restaurants) made it so easy to share all the dishes between the big numbers of people around each table(twelve people at three tables). We started with a nice prawn soup. Then onto plates and plates of starters. The highlight here was the spring rolls. Then there was the crispy shredded duck. This was probably the highlight of the meal. Next week had a choice of about five-six starters. I went for the Sweet and Sour pork and the Lemon chicken. Both very nice. The fried rice was really nice too, I could have just eaten that on its own it was so nice. The staff were very attentive, but unobtrusive. The décor fabulously over the top Asian. We even had some Chinese karaōke playing for a while on a TV, which entertained us for a while.

This is a place of convenience for the Chinese. They do their weekly shopping at the supermarket downstairs and then afterwards take the lift upstairs to the restaurant. The restaurant is far from Glamorous. The name is ridiculous! It is surrounded by its car park and there are no other views whatsoever. How is that glamorous??? Call a spade a spade. The food is pretty much average — nothing to shout about. I had to ask for condiments because they were not provided on the tables. The service was speedy and the staff were polite and attentive. The restaurant itself is some distance away from the city centre so a car is needed as I would not recommend walking around this area at night.

Glamorous doesn’t only claim to be Glamorous,(through its name) but also the biggest, best and most outrageously exotic restaurant you’ll ever experience. Strange claims. On the approach to Glamorous you’re faced with the very grand oriental temple style design from the exterior to lay claim to the claim. The restaurant itself is a very big open planned space, with plenty of round tables and lots of chitter chatter like a typical Chinese restaurant. I’ve had dim sum and evening dinner here and both have been delicious and frequented regularly by me along with the parents. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous the supermarket below, W H Lung, is filled with a lot of ingredients under the sun.

I agree with the toilets comment, they are well grim! Having said that, I don’t really mind weeing somewhere less attractive, though it does make you feel a bit strange coming back to your meal. As for the food I thought it was alright. I guess the salty comment could have some substance to it, as the food was quite greasy and had that classic British Chinese glow. But I would like to say that sometimes a nice big greasy Chinese is just what you need and if it is, this is one of the better ones I’ve had. Worth its 3 stars.

Went again tonight with my parents. Food as usual was pretty nice — maybe a little bit too salty. My complaint though is about the state of the toilets. Its starting to show its age and needs a good clean, and«lick of paint». The toilet stall had some unpainted back«board» to the toilet and the top/lid was not attached properly!

For a traditional Chinese meal in a huge restaurant complete with racuous noise, screaming Chinese families, aquariums stuffed with fish and lobsters that are eaten by the end of the day, you can’t do better than this place. The food is good, the atmosphere is lively and parking is easy!
