This small, modern Italian is part of The Light boutique apartments(reviewed elsewhere on Qype). Just tried their lunchtime menu(either pasta/pizza for £6 or soup/garlic bread + pizza/pasta + soft drink for £10). The garlic bread was very good, with cheese at no extra cost. On a fresh pizza base with generous cheese and olive oil. I don’t understand why so many chefs at Italian restaurants feel that loads of oregano will improve the taste of a pizza or garlic bread — it doesn’t, nor do they do this much in Italy. This was the case here, but the garlic bread was enjoyable nonetheless. The calzone for main was somewhat disappointing — overcooked dough(hard and crispy, but too thick for that to be a virtue), undercooked mushrooms, too much cheese and some of what the menu described as «prosciutto» but I would describe as akin to scrapings from the dog-food factory floor. They did offer me a free diet coke for having to wait an extra couple of minutes for the food, which was generous if unnecessary(I hadn’t even noticed a delay). Service attentive and friendly. Not a bad lunch option if you’re in the Northern Quarter, but I’ll probably try a pasta course or pizza next time. The Light next door has free wireless(password at reception).
