Looked for it in December; either the hours shown here are wrong or it had closed or moved, any ideas? Edit: I just noticed that the status has been updated since then… aah well, at least I found Fresh Loaf for a great breakfast in the area…

Adorable. Friendly. Pink. Sparkly. Eclectic. Adorable. Welcoming. Did I mention adorable? Bread and Butter is tiny, so tiny you want to hold its hand when it crosses the road, but it’s feisty too. This place is what would happen if Binky and Ollie from Made in Chelsea got drunk and realised they wanted to open a tea shop.(If you’ve never watched Made in Chelsea, do. Plant your tongue firmly in your cheek and just enjoy it.) It’s kind of a split personality café, half very twee and vintage and Cath Kidston, the other half all sequins and glitter and Barbie pink. If it was a person it would wear a polkadotted vintage dress… but also sport a luminous layer of fake tan. I absolutely love it. As dainty as it may seem, its food reflects its raucous side. Melty, indulgent doorstops of sandwiches, giant wedges of gooey cake… cucumber triangles and macaroons this ain’t. The staff are so delightfully friendly you feel like you’re having a coffee at a mate’s house, and the sheer range of magazines on the counter available to read means that you’re not stuck if you’re alone and minus laptop or book. Oh, and about that coffee. And that friendliness. Let me tell you… Friday May 27th. I popped in while I was waiting for the estate agents to print the contract for my new digs with their ancient printer(yes, I had to go for a *coffee* to wait for that), and after a discussion about the word ‘Americano’ and how American coffee’s not perceived as particularly strong, I was asked if I wanted my coffee strong. Oh, how I did. An early morning on very little sleep, yes please. This. Coffee. Was. Something. Else. I will apologise once again to the estate agents — a fairly mellow ELH left them, a wide-eyed jitterbug returned. If I’m ever half asleep again, my first port of call will be the three big wake-ups that are within the walls of Bread and Butter: 1) Sugar rush in form of giant cake, 2) Refreshingly bright pink décor, 3) ROCKETFUELCOFFEE.

I went here for some tea. The prices were wonderful and the décor is adorable! Pink and white walls, minimalist paintings. flowers on the tables. Very sweet staff, cozy environment. Good place to go for a salad, tea, or coffee. Quiet during the week.

Being in Bread and Butter has that same nostalgic feel to it as being in your granny’s kitchen. It’s instantly feels homely and comforting! The décor is off the wall, and mish-mashed in a way that shouldn’t really work but somehow does. There are cute garden seats mixed up with squishy sofas and quirky artwork(much of it for sale) adorns the walls. Although Bread and butter feels great, it’s menu is really it’s strong point. Your are swamped with the smell of freshly baked cakes as you walk in which makes you instantly forget any thoughts of being healthy and drives you to tuck in. The cakes they sell aren’t the usual glitter covered delicate cupcakes that seem to be so trendy these days but more think, chunky whole slabs of carrot cake. Or huge doorsteps of banana bread that leave you feeling truly satisfied. The sandwich range is vast with scores of different breads and fillings to choose from. The chickpea and mint ciabatta being one of my favs! Although the pink sign and pretty exterior of Bread and Butter would lead you to believe that it is a girlie tea shop, there are always a surprising amount of men in there devouring a full English(which they also do a great line in) and seeing off a few mugs of tea. All in all this is a great little place that does everything a café should do, I would highly recommend it to everyone who feel up for a bit of good old fashioned indulgence.

A little gem of a find, ‘Bread & Butter’ is great in every way. It ticks all the boxes necessary to make each visit an enjoyable one; fast efficient service and always with a smile, extremely reasonable prices, delicious food, a wide selection of drinks… served in vintage cups complete with saucers, and vintage tea pots too. All these things add to the experience, which thus far, has always been a positive one. Its just a shame it isnt a little bigger, as sometimes it can get really crowded and as its so small, it can get a little too much. This is the only remotely negative comment I have about this place. Wins hands down when up against ‘Cup’ for example, which I’d describe as lacklustre at the best of times!

When Classy Friend told me about this place, she didn’t know what it was called, so she described it as «the little tea shop place. The little pink teashop place. The little pink teashop place next to Rags to Bitches.» Of course, once I was on Tib Street, I saw exactly where she was talking about. It was basically love at first sight. As well as the adorable, delicious cakes, B&B serve the best sausage rolls in alll the land. Well, the best sausage rolls I’ve had since leaving the North East, at least. I wish I could say something… anything…about the other savoury snacks, but every time I come here, I default and order a sausage roll. They’re just that good. The boyf very much enjoyed some variety of spicy pasty once. I think it had sweet potato in, but he wouldn’t let me have a bit. Meanie! The prices are scandalously cheap, too, which is always a good salve when you’ve spent your rent in Rags to Bitches…

What a quaint café me thinks. With its pink décor its pretty fruity and the food is very good. Trying to identify the name of this place took me a while, I had to turn over a few rocks and read a couple of things before I finally established what this fine eatery was called. Inside there’s very nice staff and an even nicer array of sandwiches, Panini’s and such it has a loyal fan base of tea drinkers etc. The cakes are heaven sent. On a sunny afternoon sitting outside with your tea and light lunch can spell for a true look at back alley life in the northern quart and its vibe of underground, alternative and cool.

Nice café in Northern Quarter run by creatives with no sense of direction. You’ll fit in well here if you sleep in a skip behind Sainsburys the night before your visit, then sit in a corner listening to Talvin Singh on an original 1983 tape-Walkman whilst reading a copy of Jackie containing a pull out feature of Sheena Easton just before Prince dusted her cobwebs. 10% discount if you turn up with a hen stuffed in a budgie cage. If you’re expecting Bread & Butter to be a specialist sandwich shop selling expensive, artisan sandwiches — think again. Located on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter — a short hop from Rags to Bitches — it’s actually a distinctive café specialising in cheap and cheeful paninis, flatbreads, soups, stews, hot drinks and homemade cakes. There’s a couple of different specials available every day and customers have the option to take away or eat in. If you opt for the latter, it’s a lovely space with pastel pink walls, sparkling chandeliers and bric-à-brac style furniture. If you can get a seat, try one of the owner’s homemade cupcakes, brownies, scones or layer cakes. My personal favourite? The Guiness Cake of course!

How have I never discovered this place before?! It’s amazing! It’s pink and girlie and yummy! And it sells cake! Beautiful homemade cake! Mmmmmmmmmmm cake… They also serve breakfast, lunch, snacks, tea, coffee etc, all to eat in or take away. Very cheap prices too so you don’t feel too guilty afterwards for treating yourself after a hard days shopping.

Cafes don’t come better than this. It ticks all the boxes cafes really should: great tea and coffee, scrumptious cakes, generous and well-made sandwiches on a choice of fresh breads, and extremely comfortable and welcoming décor. In fact, the pink décor looks good enough to eat too, how many places can claim that? It feels like the finest selection of mum’s home baking and cooking. Scones and cream, eccles cakes, Guinness and chocolate cake, paninis, stews… need I say more?

This is a really cute little café on Tib Street in the Northern Quarter. As far as I can see there’s no real sign outside, but it’s pink so you should be able to spot it. I’ve always had problems with cafes in the northern quarter being all style and no substance, plus typically the service can be on the ropey side what with all that bohemian atmosphere(although there are some exceptions — Café Aromat is brilliant and Oklahoma is good too). Thankfully, this place can be added to that short list as one of the good’uns. Service was extremely friendly and quick. The staff all appeared to have their own tasks to do and did them efficiently. It was nobody’s job to stand around doing nothing while nothing got done. Everyone, staff and customers alike, had smiles on their faces and seemed to be having fun. The selection of paninis and wraps was excellent and the cakes were very pretty. I would possibly have liked a more enticing cake selection, but then admittedly I am a fussy cake snob of the highest proportions. Overall, it was really good value for money, and I really hope this place does well.

I love this little café! The cakes are delicious –particularly the Jaffa-cake cake and their amazingly light chocolate cupcakes. They don’t stint on the fillings for their panini’s, and all the food I’ve ordered here has been perfectly hot, fresh and tasty. Can get quite busy on a Saturday, but service is always quick.

This fine little café sits along the rather marvelous Tib St just a few doors down from Rags to Bitches. It serves delicious home cooked food and a splendid variety of cakes that fair brings a twinkle to the eye. The décor is a wondrous mix of opulence and deco tiling, bringing an altogether favorable Englishness to the whole proceedings. Mr. Rags heartily recommends this establishment.
