As I only had a week left at my job in Partington, my partner picked me up from work and we headed into Lymm for a bite to eat before heading home. Twice we went to the Golden Fleece: the first time because we liked the look of it from the outside and the menu was decent; the second time because the food we had the first time was good, and the service was excellent. The ladies that work this pub are very friendly, and good humour, and made us feel welcome. The food and the prices were tasty and affordable, respectively. I’d definitely recommend going here again if you are ever in Lymm.

The pub is great, but it’s understaffed, it can’t cope with the dinnertime rush we had to wait with 45 minutes for a meal which was appauling. The biggest problem though is the drunks at the bar, they block the bar and make so much noise we left, at least sort out thr drunks PLEASE!

After reading the reviews already on here, I thought I would take the chance of Lymm Festival to visit this pub(I haven’t been in since the 1970’s). First impressions were good; four handpulls and a calm atmosphere. Unfortunately, it went downhill rapidly. We had to ask the barmaid to serve us as she was talking on her mobile ‘phone — in fact, she continued her ‘phone conversation throughout, even when using the till. The four handpulls were all Adnam’s Southwold Bitter — served clear and at the right temperature, but nothing special. The beer garden is indeed lovely, especially when the sun is shining and all the customers we met were very friendly. The pub seems to be well-kept and was clean and welcoming throughout, so it a shame that the service was so poor. We will drink elsewhere in Lymm on future visits.

ill admit my first interest was as i walked down the canal in a summery haze and saw a beutiful beer garden by the canal. later as i found the front entrance i was greeted by a tad more laddishness than i expected but before i cop for being a right southern jesse i found them enjoying the horse racing with happiness and glee… everyone i spoke to in the pub for the next few hours(was with wife and 3 yr old youngun) was the most freindly ever. havent done the food thing yet but staff were v v nice and as punters were nice i suspect food isnt too bad. we are going back next weekend.

Due to its size and location this is the kind of place that would really turn some heads if it became a gastro-pub. However, at the moment the Golden Fleece is satisfied with it’s current status as Lymm’s do it all pub. Not excelling in any particular area means that no market is alienated and thus the place is popular with a wide range of people. There’s a large, pull-down screen for sports fans, a dart board, a large outdoor area with swings and things for kids and an array of quiz machines for those in need of trivial stimulation. During the summer the Fleece’s beer garden is a prime location for families and youths alike, as it gets direct sunlight all through the day. Not only that but its high walls and greenery give you a sense of privacy and a little serenity. Whilst the food isn’t anything special it’s a great place to grab a budget lunch when you’re feeling lazy and fancy some typical pub grub like scampi and chips or a cheeseburger. For the student types the biggest draw has to be the large bar, which can accommodate a surprisingly large number of orders whilst functioning effectively. Essentially it’s not the kind of place that’ll impress but it’ll get the job done, like a tin of Ronseal.

Not eaten here for a few years so can’t really comment on the food, but for a drink the place is going in the right direction after a few years of constantly changing the landlord the pub was in turmoil. The current landlady seems to have steadied the ship and now the brewery have invested in new flat screens throughout the pub it is Lymm’s best place for a bit of atmosphere to enjoy any major sporting event.
