Came back with the wife & our 4 month old daughter and treated like royalty. The food and service is excellent & like all Greek Tavernas they were very welcoming & accommodating to our daughter. I cannot recommend this place high enough

One of the loveliest meals I’ve had in a long time. We shared a few things — greek salad, chips, octopus, whitebait and an AMAZING aubergine and feta dip(forgot the actual name) with some tasty greek bread. Everything tasted perfect, the setting was nice, the price was pretty good. I’m vegetarian but my partner enjoyed the fish and I went here on a recommendation of a meat eating friend so if I include and trust her judgement everything here is great! I’m sad It took me so long to discover. One star off perfect purely cause I grew up in a place with a very strong Greek community with Greek friends and I was a tad disappointed with the feta cheese nog being as I know real, fresh feta to be like. Surely as a Greek restaurant they must get this right!

At last the local-ish restaurant I’ve been searching for for ages… Absolutely everything you want from a relaxed, unpretentious local Mediterranean restaurant. UK quality ingredients aside, The Vineyard is highly recommended. Octopus in red wine starter perfect, chef did his best with North Sea rather than Med calamari and fries with tomato salad , baklava not quite as chilled as it could be, but Greek Mythos beer and the whole package mean I will be back … Can’t believe I have put up with so many sub standard pub chain meals for long!!!

sorry man this place sucks. sucks. sucks. their appetizer would be better off if they have just served it out of waitrose’s store brand readymade. the £4 baba ganoush was sub par, served with a side of the whitest pita you can get in town. the grilled ‘seafood’(reasons in quotations is not questionable) took almost 20 minutes to arrive. not sure if their seafood were vegan fed or something, but the order of grilled seabass was lean as hell and there were barely any meat or ‘juiciness’ to it. you probably get more taste by mixing olive oil and together and eating it with some imagination. worst of all were their grilled prawns. prawns my ass they were worst than chinese takeaway prawns that were recooked and frozen and then cooked again. unappetizingly horrible. horrible. horrible. the heads were coming off, the meat was tastelessly dull, and literally just straight-up bad with a capital B. the side salad also came with some questionably white feta cheese bits. sure the goats don’t get much sun here. but those cubicles were literally brighter than your Crest toothpaste. so conclusion: never again.

The Vineyard is an old-school Greek taverna dating from well before anyone tried to reinvent Greek cuisine over here. It doesn’t seem to have changed in the 30 or so years since I first moved into the area. In fact, it still has a picture of Lorraine Chase in the window! See, most people don’t even remember who Lorraine Chase is nowadays. I’m not 100% sure myself, as it goes… she was on telly or something, and it seems she used to frequent the Vineyard. Maybe she still does! The Vineyard’s longstanding success is surely down to the fact that you can sit outside, on tree-lined Camberwell Grove, under a foliage-covered canopy(or an awning? Which one’s which? Do I need to look into this? Or do you get the general idea?) which makes it look highly enticing any time the weather’s halfway decent. This is despite the fact that the actual food is nothing to write home about. After all, FM Mangal is just round the corner — though I’d probably best stay out of the debate on whether Greek cuisine has the edge on Turkish, or vice versa(the answer being fairly obvious). Sometimes you just want to feel like you’re on holiday, or just go somewhere that manages to be avowedly retro by not trying to be retro. The Vineyard’s had it sussed for decades now, and I can’t see how this situation is ever going to change. Good on ‘em!

A nice little Greek place tucked away off the main street in Camberwell. There are tables outside under a glass terrace that actually has a vine growing up it — very authentic. We went here on a Summers evening and it was wonderful to sit outside in the cool evening air. The staff were helpful, if a little passive, and I discovered a fantastic beer from Cyprus, one that I’ll be going back for. The Mezze was not bad at all, plenty of it and in fact, our little table quickly ran out of space and the plates kept coming! It was tasty, but nothing that made me go ‘wow’. I’ll go back, it was a nice experience, but I have to say the food was average, something to fill you up rather than blow your taste buds away.

i love this Greek restaurant, from the grape vine outside to their famous octopus entering my mouth. Its a great family run restaurant and i love the grandad who seems to flutter about helping in the bar, waitering and the kitchen. what makes it more homely is the pictures of their family on the wall. A definite gem of Camberwell Grove

This traditional Greek taverna at the end of the tree-lined Camberwell Grove, is delightfully charming. Inside, it’s all white tablecloths and traditional music with grapes hanging from the ceiling, which helps give it an authentic holiday flavour. This is even better during the summer when you can sit outside on the colourful tables and look out onto the beautiful Grove whilst sipping wine and sharing meze. The food is excellent,. I usually choose to share about 5 meze platters, including Halloumi, stuffed vine leaves, and falafel, between two. But there are main courses available too if that’s what you prefer. On a summer’s evening, the outside tables are often full and it is not unusual to see the staff at the tables too, joining in with the banter and adding to the sense of community that the Vineyard helps create in Camberwell.
