Good service, great food. I’ve been here for lunch several times and am always impressed. Really authentic south Indian food. The fish molly is particularly delicious, the plain paratha is delicately flaky and the pumpkin curry takes me right back to traveling in Kerrela. This is real Indian food, fresh, tasty and unique — a massive step up from the standard cury house. And today I found out they deliver, this is going to be my choice next time we have a curry night in.

I’ve been going to Vijays over the years and it has remained a constant gem. They specialise in south Indian — their masala dosa with samba is plate overlapping greatness. The prices are keen, the portions good. The curries are varied and aren’t made from the same base. Whenever rellies visit from outer town, this is the first place they ask to be taken too. Dont expect modern décor, but do expect old world charm with great flavours. They also deliver if you ask nicely.

Probably the best traditional indian restaurant and is probably the longest running curry house in the area. They’re south indian cuisine specialists and do fantastic vegetarian dishes. Their meat dishes are great too. Eating in can be quite expensive but its worth it.

At First the 70s/80s décor seems a bit weird, but after the first 10 minutes it seems to add to the charm. The first place in England I have been to where all the curry does not taste generic. Perhaps South Indian is the way to go. Great flavours to explore

Without doubt one of the best South Indian restaurants in London.

Another of my longtime haunts — Vijay’s is always fantastic! I have even seen a former Mayor and a Pop Idol judge in there before. Either they are both cheapskates or the food really is that good. Although prices have gone from the bargain range previously offered to standard Indian restaurant prices, this has done little to tarnish my enthusiasm for the Southern Indian dishes offered. The numerous waiting staff are always so friendly, without being in any way overbearing. The dishes are so flavoursome, my favourites being the Masala Dosai with Sambar(a spicy pancake accompanied by an intriguing sauce), Chilli Chicken(the simple title belies the fantastic taste), Methi Gosht, Chicken Doh Peeazah. If you are feeling brave, or if you have a cold you want to shift quickly… try the Rasam soup. And pray.

Tasty tasty tasty!!! Vijay’s consistently delivers delicious food at affordable prices. They have been around for years(est. in 1964) and have an extensive menu. The staff are polite, friendly and efficient. It kind of feels to me like there are quite a lot of waiters for one restaurant, so you are never left trying to flag one down! I have been coming here for years, and have never been disappointed with the fresh, spicy deliciousness. It’s a pretty big restaurant and is always busy in the evenings(funnily I came here for lunch a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and we were the only people in the restaurant… so whilst they are open for lunch and dinner, I definitely think it’s worth going in the evening instead, otherwise you might be the only people there and feel like you have to whisper!) I would recommend the pumpkin and black eyed bean dish(I’ve never seen this anywhere else before and it was de-lish!) the chicken bhuna is also a winner, and the lamb(oh I can’t remember what this one particular dish was called, but it had chillis, peppers and onions in it!) was soft and tender and mmmm… If you haven’t been, then Mel says: check it out! :)

someone i once knew bragged about this place… so when i finally made it out to london, this restaurant was a must try. the food was delectable. i have heard that indian food was much nicer in london, and they did deliver. it’s been a few years since i’ve ate here, but i would revisit this place when in london again.

A fantastic south Indian curry house. They do a wonderful range of dishes from Kerala, and some particularly fabulous vegetarian options. The deco isn’t modern, but the atmosphere is cosy and the service friendly. It’s a bit of a Kilburn institution(apparently Ken Livingstone loves it, but I’ve never bumped into him there) so book in advance on friday and saturdays. Highly recommended.

When we go out for a family meal, we often end up going to VJ’s — it’s an Indian restaurant that doesn’t disappoint. It is always packed out, whatever day of the week you go. The menu and food is authentic — yes, you can get familiar ‘English’ curries, but that would be a shame as the real treat about this place is that you get proper Indian food which you so rarely find. The dosai are worth mentioning, and the vegetarian options are spectacular, and I am saying that as a devoted carnivore. And it’s cheap. As it’s situated behind the main road in Kilburn, it’s popular by word of mouth rather than passing trade. I would definitely recommend booking if you are planning a visit, rather than just dropping in.
