Absolutely excellent! Newly refurbished by all accounts at it looks simply stunning. It feels like stepping back to the prohibition era — yet obviously with all the mod-cons — however, it somehow manages to feel authentic and not forcefully contrived like many other salons that go for possibly similar vintage effects. A real treat for East London. Someone by the designer a drink! Enough of the look though — the cuts? Again — utterly excellent. From the coffee, to the wash, to the cut, to the bill. Every little thing passed by effortlessly and expertly. Friendly and technically incredible. I fail to see how I could prevent myself from fawning any further if I keep typing, so I’ll have to sign off with a simple summary — If you’re near by and need a cut, stop by. If you need a cut but need to travel from out of town to get here, well, then travel from out of town to get here. Hell! If you don’t think you even need a cut, and you’re from out of town — book an appointment and travel in. After they’re finished, you’ll realise that your hair probably, in honesty, didn’t look very good before. Simple. Stunning. Sublime.

Terrible cut by a so-called ‘senior stylist’. Probably one of the worst I have ever had — and that is saying something. I had to take scissors to myself in order to tame some ridiculously long pieces that just seemed like a bizarre oversight. Maybe this place is better for women, but I went in with my girlfriend and she left with her hair looking totally frizzy and frazzled. Also it was out first visit and they did not apply the discount. There must be better options out there! In other words: don’t believe the hype and avoid like the plague.

My hair is a fan. After a pretty severe pixie of all pixie cuts back in March — my hair needed an opportunity expand it’s horizons, breathe and grow. I hadn’t had a real haircut in literally, 5 months. This is a very long time when one’s hair is short. But, it was time. And of course, as always — didn’t have a lot of time, so I wanted to be in and around Shoreditch. Did a quick search and came upon Tommy Guns. Done and done. Quickly made a phone call and had an appointment for Saturday morning. I like this, things are going well and easily. I ambled over on Saturday morning, was quickly situated with Daniel(Senior Stylist), consulted quickly, taken for a shampoo/condition/head massage, popped back in for a good 45 minute major clean-up of hair-shell, and then blow dry + further trimming. He didn’t rush. He was very kind and sweet. The overall vibe was just… great. No complaints. It’s cool without being way«TOO» cool — the staff is casual. It’s not overdone or hyped up. I felt comfortable and happened to be wearing workout clothes, but didn’t feel like I was getting the hipster staredown, not even once! About 50 quid — well worth it and I am very pleased with the cut. I’ll be back!

I used to live in the area around the turn of the century — at the same time as Jarvis Cocker off of Pulp(I saw him buying a pint of milk near Cheap Booze — if you know the area, you’ll know this local landmark) and a few years before the area was parodied in the Channel 4 comedy Nathan Barley. As a single, 20-something guy a vist to Tommy Gun’s was a monthly treat. I mean, where else would you get a beer and have a Brazillian girl running fingers through your hair. Well apart from the East End strip pubs down the road. I used to stand out from the regular«Noo Meedja» clientele as I worked near the City(no, I was never a banker) and I was dressed in my office clothes when I usually went there. Prices were reasonable for the time period and I used to get my hair cut by two different Swedish stylists. One might have been called Linda and I forget the name of the second one — she was half Swedish, half Chinese and really good. There was a video game called Mirror’s Edge a few years back and when I saw the cover I thought«Bloody hell, she used to cut my hair!» No longer live in the UK so not sure if this area is as cool as it used to be(answers on a postcard) but have great memories of this place. A++ Would cut my hairt there again.

I was looking for a new hairdresser as although I love my usual I just wanted to try something a little less wacky, so I thought I would try Tommy Guns as the word on the street is that whatever you’re looking for they can provide, whether it be Agnes Dean or Charlotte from SATC. The huge list of celebrity clients they boast on their website certainly showed they do all ends of the spectrum. I called for an appointment and booked one for within two days for a cut and half head of highlights just to warm up my boring winter bonce. Julia cut and Maria coloured. I was looking forward to great things, but the whole experience was nothing special and worst of all the salon was absolutely freezing and when you’re sat with a colour on for 45 minutes you really notice the door opening and closing a million times letting the icy wind filter through. Julia did the hairdressing speciality of I’m-listening-but-not-really-listening trick and even though I begged her not to cut much off she did what she fancied and now the hair that I’ve been lovingly growing for months is a lot shorter than I would have preferred. Maria on the other hand did take my opinion into account and the highlights are very subtle, exactly how I wanted, but I’ve just noticed a bright orangey spot where I think she must have over done it a bit so I’m wondering if I should go back or if it’s going to tone down in a few weeks. All I know is that it shouldn’t be there! The cuts are reasonably price, mine was £45, but the half head of highlights was £99 which seems pricey for the end result. I think the best thing about this salon are the comfy old barber style chairs, which if I wasn’t freezing to death, I would have been able to happily sit back and enjoy. A lot of interesting characters came in and although I enjoyed a spot of people watching, I’m afraid to say that a lot of the haircuts that left were really nothing to shout about. I think Tommy Guns is enjoying a comfortable ride on the trendy hotspot list, rather than pulling it’s weight where it really matters… with the quality of it’s haircuts.

Tommy Guns coming to a neighborhood near you. This place seems to be expanding everywhere. They are even opening an outpost in New York. This is the only place I would get my haircut. The cools atmosphere and hip clientele add to the lure. I think Derrick gives the best cuts in town. And the prices are not outrageous. If you are tired of bad haircuts or want a new look, Tommy Guns is the place for you.

Shoreditch’s version of Spitalfields’ Vision, Tommy Guns is where the beautiful people get their hair cut. With a team of expert stylists and colourists, Tommy Guns offers perks such as the occasional free vodka cocktail and assurances such as a routinely professional service and consistently beautiful cuts. Julia is particularly good for a classically beautiful and flattering cut and the colourists are wicked at a folically revivifying gloss to warm up a pallid winter complexion.
