Timberyard

Great ambience and work atmosphere! Also, comfy seating is a definite plus. And, of course, great coffee and teas too. About a furlong from Old Street Station, in a great location.

Why haven’t I reviewed Timberyard yet? This little haunt has been a favourite of mine during the past few months, as I’ve been using it as my base for working with coffee away from the distractions of home.
I’ll be brief with this review.
Pros:
–Timberyard serves some damn good coffee and a tasty soya matcha latte.
–There is ample seating both upstairs and downstairs and the interior is cool with a variety of different seating options. Upstairs is good for socialising, whereas downstairs is quieter and a good place to co-​work/​study.
–There are often gluten free and vegan cakes available.
–Wifi is fast and reliable.
Cons:
–Expensive. Now I know London is generally a very expensive city, but Timberyard is pushing the boundaries a little. A thin slice of mediocre banana bread costs £3.80 and a coffee is only a little bit cheaper.
–Though the space is cool, there are a few things which bother me and make me think that someone in the team is less than discerning; I got a juice which had an entire full-​length celery stick in it, making it resemble a salad bouquet; there is currently a photo exhibition by a collaboration of local photographers about the Beigel Shop on Brick Lane which looks like the school project of one individual.
–Cakes are hit and miss.

Truly an awesome place for tasty coffee, savory food, and a bit of work.
Ambience:
Industrial-​chic decorations mixed with a bit of old London feel. Music is pleasant, but not too loud.
Edibles:
Coffee was delicious, as were the croque monsieur and (IIRC) potato soup.
Other:
Wifi was plenty fast, and there were power outlets everywhere. There’s a downstairs with extra seating. Only downside is that it can get a touch loud as most of the crowd when I went was chatting & working groups.

I used to work right behind Timber Yard and this was my go to place for coffee.
They also have really yummy cakes and sandwiches, coffee is great and they have a workplace in the basement with tables, free wifi and even a small private room (we used it for meeting).
As I said loved the place and went back yesterday after 1 year and half and wow was I surprised by the prices. I paid £3.50 for a small cookie. It was good but for that price I expect it to be twice the size of my head or really really good cookie. £3.50 for the smallest cookie on earth isn’t cool.
Timberland stays a cool place to hang out if you have time to spare but you better be ready to pay a lot.

A friend of mine used to work at Timberyard Old St and I absolutely loved spending time there whilst he was working. Their sandwiches are lovely and so is the coffee. The cakes and cookies can be quite dry sometimes but I always used to go for the sandwiches anyway. The iced coffee is probably my favourite Timberyard drink!
Also, a perfect place for studying as they have free wifi and plenty of space both upstairs and downstairs with comfy chairs and sofas.

I’n very surprised I’ve never reviewed Timberyard before, as it’s a quality go-​to spot for coffee and work.
It’s a quirky shop, with lots of it made from recycyled wood and old couches brought to new life. But here’s what I really love about it:
— The seating, and lots of it. You think it’s full and then realize there’s a full downstairs section with tons more seating. So good.
— The food and drinks. Strong coffee, good sandwiches, a nice options of salads and a soup of the day. They do more than your normal coffee shop and do it really well. I got a pork sandwich with apple sauce the other day, toasted, and it was damn delicious.
— The staff is friendly. You order at the counter and then they bring everything to you, coffee, food, whatever you ordered. And they do it with a smile, which is always nice.
— Strong free wifi. Yes.
I was going to give this coffee shop four stars, but then I thought, why? It’s got everything I want from a coffee shop and more. I love it and it’s totally deserved the full five.

I was drawn in by the enthusiastic reviews of fellow Unilocalers, and pleased to say I v much agree.
Relaxed ambience, comfy sofas and yummy food, including a delicious spinach quiche and Reese’s rice crispy cake.
Didn’t think I’d do the cronut justice on this visit — hopefully next time!
My only criticism is that the prices aren’t particularly cheap but, hey, it’s central London.

I love this little coffee shop down in Clerkenwell. I actually think it deserves 5 stars as when I popped in twice over 3 days, both experiences were faultless.
Here’s my big up list!
* Excellent coffee, lovely flat whites
* Very chilled out vibe and laid back surroundings
* Loved the big boardroom table that we booked out downstairs for our meets.
* Very, very friendly staff
* The Cro-​nuts are quite simply incredible — yep, I’ll be back for more of these in the future.
* Great place for a meeting, to work or just hang out with friends.
Yep — this place is super cool.

The Timberyard looks like quite a quaint little café from the outside but is actually deceiving rather large once you head in and look around.
We arrived, a group of 13, and I was like ‘there’s no way we’re fitting in here’ but to my surprise we were led downstairs to the meeting area and were seated around a large but cost table.
The caffetiers asked us to place our orders as we entered and very kindly brought them downstairs to us.
Sadly I only had a glass of water as I was still stuffed from lunch but I can say that the coffees looked very well poured and I’ll definitely be back for a hot chocolate as they looked thick and creamy.
The cakes too looked exquisite. Shout out to the cronut fans out there — The Timberyard sells them!
This café is perfect for an afternoon meeting, to get your head down and do some work away from the office OR to go along with a friend and have a catch up! There’s plenty of comfortable seating and the atmosphere is calming. Happy latte… If you like that kind of thing :)

Deux visites en deux jours et une adresse validée. Le Timberyard est immense, sert de délicieux flat whites et… des cronuts ! Alors certes je n’en ferais pas mon dessert de tous les jours (je n’ose pas imaginer ma silhouette après ça), mais juste pour le plaisir d’y goûter, l’adresse était déjà approuvée. Quant au brownie chocolat-​framboise, j’ai cru qu’il allait m’achever par sa densité… totalement délicieuse tout de même !
Deux vrais bons points en plus pour :
— le service à table: tellement plus sympa que d’attendre au comptoir au milieu de tout le monde
— la possibilité de réserver la grande table du bas, isolée sans être dans une pièce à part pour autant, pour les groupes (à 13 on y était très bien)
Wifi gratuit et service sympa !

Entering this place, first thoght was… this must be an apple store! But mhh. too many cakes there. ;P

For me this was the first time to try cronuts (yes, true)!. I’m in love with them!
Enjoyed a delicious chai latte and some coffee and other pieces of cake in the basement of this beautiful place, too. Just be aware it’s super crowded here. If you come in groups better let them know in advance.

Dann ist dieses Lokal das beste für dich und dein einziges Problem wird sein, dich zu entscheiden, was für einen Kaffee und Essen du haben willst. Man kann es hier mit nichts schlecht machen, die Donuts aus Blätterteig sind alle wunderbar, nur Vorsicht vor der Zuckerüberdosis. Und auch wenn es vollgepackt scheint, schau doch mal im Untergeschoß rein, da findest du einen guten und gemütlichen Platz.

I am in total love with Timberyard, it incarnates pretty much everything about coffee shops in London. The kitsch décor and good americano, quite cheap I have to say (£2 ish). Actually very good coffee. Not to mention the pastries… I «hate» them for making me deviate from my low-​carb habits :).
I love good customer service. Actually, everybody does, and I love small touches that make me feel the extra attention staff members pay to customers. Last time I was there, a waiter saw that I love coffee so much that he did an accelerated lesson on how they source their coffee and why it’s important to them. How cool is that? This is what I call the extra mile!
What else to say? Grab your laptop and run there. It’s a must-​do coffee shop in Old Street. Hands downs! :)

The best coffee I tasted in London. The pastries are from an old English bakery. A lot of freelancers use it for work, probably cause it has a lot of space in the basement.

Jesus this place is full of brainiac or computeraniacs ! Every table is filled with customers with laptop, tapping their fingers away ! Oh yea that means they have computer plugs. Wifi connection is perfect! The décor is cute. I really like the ideas of different chairs putting in this place. The staff is really nice and friendly. Salute to the girls running this place by themselves and hearing their laughters or singing along with the radio was quite uplifting. Love the sandwich and apple juice. I should really write more about food … Nom nom nom I like it. Will recommend and go back !

Saw the peanut butter kronut from a previous review and had to try it for myself, as peanut butter is the giver of life!
We arrived early and were actually the only people there to begin with, the staff were all friendly and the music was awesome too!
More people began to trickle in as we left, each seemed to be setting up their laptops getting ready to settle down for some work for the day (there were lots of plug points to make this possible)
All in all an enjoyable experience.

I used to go to Covent garden. This time i spent time here. Always great juice and delicious salad… and so many sweet treats !!!
Nice atmosphere, cute and friendly place.

It’s a bit busy, but their smoothie is giant and totally worth it. Great for a laid back work lunch!

I am not a coffee drinker so I can’t say I’ve tried any of the drinks. I will say this place is cool and makes me feel like an old uncool lady wearing running shoes. I think I need some hip glasses.
I’ve tried the everything bar/​tray bake. It’s insane. So rich and full of really every good ingredient – oats, white chocolate, caramel, milk chocolate. Delish!
The staff here are very sweet and seem to have relationships with many of the regulars. It’s like Cheers, except not really at all.

Tried this place twice now and I think that’s enough. Coffee is just average. Competition to find a seat and the lack thereof makes it not enjoyable. And while the food is wonderfully presented and served to you on a nice square tray, with water too, it tastes average as well. It’s got a good vibe and I hope it’ll improve.

Coffee: well prepared and delicious.
Ambiance is warm, space is larger than it appears. WiFi strong. Food is standard nibbles.
No, what I like about timberyard is that it’s one of a few coffee shops still equipped to handle the roving student. Please don’t change that!

Espace lumineux, assez hipster, tables en bois, cafés de toutes sortes, pas de doute le Timberyard sait comment créer une atmosphère cool et détendue!
J’y ai pris un smoothie aux fruits rouges qui était vraiment délicieux, très joliment présenté avec une de ces jolies pailles en papier que l’on trouve partout aujourd’hui. Le seul problème avec ces pailles, c’est qu’elles se ramollissent au contact du liquide, et qu’à la fin du smoothie j’avais l’impression de mâchouiller du carton.
Quant au café, je me suis laissée tenter par le Filter Café qui n’était pas tout à fait à la hauteur de mes attentes, vraiment trop amer.
Mais le lieu est tellement cool que je sais que j’y retournerai malgré tout! Ils font également des formules petit-​déjeuner qui ont l’air de surfer sur la tendance «healthy» avec du muesli, des jus frais, des fruits. Typiquement ce que j’aime dans un café de ce style.
Petit détail hyper appréciable: une étagère remplie de bouteilles d’eau fraîche est à disposition des clients, bien joué!

Jaaa, hier mag ich gerne einziehen. Nichts für Macbook-​Phobiker, denn wenn auch als Café ausgezeichnet, erinnert es doch fast an einen Co-​Working Space. Das hierauf ein Fokus gelegt wird, merkt man auch an 1A WLAN, großen, normal hohen Tischen und zig Steckdosen. Ein Paradies für den Arbeitsplatznomaden. Zum Arbeiten sind auch wir hier gewesen und ich muss sagen, so macht es nochmal richtig Spaß. Hier kann man den ganzen Tag verbringen: es gibt tolle Kaffees, einen super leckeren Smoothie, verschiedenes Gebäck, Sandwiches zum Lunch, Obst, Wasser for free…
Hinzu kommt die wirklich gemütliche Einrichtung, viel Holz wird verwendet, sodass man sich trotz Andrang fühlt wie im Wohnzimmer zu Hause. Also Home Office Alternative gibt’s hier von mir volle 5 Sterne, als normales Café wäre mir die Laptop-​Dichte wahrscheinlich etwas zu anstrengend. Ich will sowas auch in Hamburg haben!

Chilled out vibe, amazing selection of popcorn (YES I said popcorn, the goat cheese and pepper is addictive), ubiquitous plugs for your laptop, and comfy seats.
I like the bar seating against the window, view of the outdoors plus cozy corner to yourself.
