Another good lunch or dinner choice on Bermondsey street! We went for an early dinner on Sunday and were pleased with the food and service. The pizza is the best that you can get on Bermondsey street — fresh ingredients, plenty of options for whatever you are in the mood for, and cooked with just enough time. Definitely give it a try!

On Thursday, March 19, a friend and I wandered down Bermondsey Street, without a reservation, with the unrealistic hope of getting into a certain acclaimed Italian restaurant. We couldn’t get in, but we crossed the road and were able to get a nice table at Ticino. We had salads for starters — Pear and Gorgonzola. Absolutely delicious, the dressing was divine! For mains, I had Spaghetti with Beef Ragu — among the best versions of that dish that I’ve had anywhere. My friend had a pizza, which she loved. My dessert was delicious — a mango mousse. The ambience was pleasant and the service charming. I’m grateful that we couldn’t get a table at the more posh and famous place across the street from Ticino. I have since tried it – it’s good — but not as good as Ticino, and certainly not as good value for money!

The Pizza at this place is really delicious and an absolute treat on a Sunday evening. The staff is friendly but not overbearing. It gets really busy during the week so best book ahead.

Hey the pizza is not bad here. A bit loud and service is a tad erratic(albeit always polite), but probably to be expected on a Friday night. This was a random find as we just happened to be in the area, but I would definitely recommend and would probably go back if I lived locally.

After a terrific morning at The Tower of London, my companion and I walked across Tower Bridge and to the South Bank in the hopes of going to a restaurant for lunch that I cannot even remember the name of. Turned away due to a lack of reservations we tried Ticino instead. We had an absolutely delicious lunch, very pleased since we were aiming for a different restaurant initially. To start we shared their bruschetta. I’ve had bruschetta a thousand times but this was easily the best. I haven’t been to Italy so I can’t compare but this has to be how bruschetta is supposed to be made. The quality of the ingredients was so high. Giant pieces of freshly made, chewy bread heaped with fresh heirloom tomatoes, incredibly flavorful olive oil, TONS o’ garlic and basil. God it was good. Like, fight for every last tomato morsel on the plate good. Exceptionally good. I can actually taste it now and it brings a tear to my eye. For our mains I had the pork ragu pasta and my friend has the prosciutto and greens pizza. My pasta was excellent, I don’t know if I’ve ever actually had ragu and pasta before, believe it or not. This was incredible. The pork and sauce was so delicious with plenty of salt and large shaves of aged cheese. The pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente. Huge portion and I just wanted to keep eating and eating and eating. Hearty, warming, filling, delicious. I did not try my friends pizza but it also looked fantastic. The kind of artisan pizza with a homemade chewy crust, oil for sauce and fresh, simple ingredients on top. It was quite large for one person and she ate it all. We were hungry and the food was absolutely delicious. We dined like kings. I don’t know what else is going on in Bermondsey but I would definitely recommend this restaurant to tourists and locals. I would absolutely go back were I visiting again.

Classic Italian done well. A friend and I wandered in here on a Saturday evening after visiting The Shard and several other places we tried were fully booked, and we were seated shortly. The atmosphere is pleasant, modern, and romantic. We had just had pizza the night before, but that didn’t stop us from getting more pizza. I really enjoyed mine and ate the whole darn thing. I really wanted dessert despite being stuffed, so I ordered Italian cheesecake to go and was obliged with a box for it. However, I was warned that it «isn’t like American cheesecake» — of course not, this was an Italian place and I read the description on the menu! I hate being lumped with the Obnoxious American Tourist stereotype. The cheesecake was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it. AHH the flavors were incredible and mixed really well together. It was more like a creamy mousse sort of thing with fruit in it — I can’t even describe it properly, just get it. I was glad we ended up at Ticino.

Ticino is the restaurant opened by the bakers across the street, and honestly I was a bit nervous given the mixed reviews I had seen on different sites. But I booked dinner for four at 8PM and though we were 15 minutes late, they kept our seats! Right now the place is BYOB, which honestly is a refreshing alternative to every other place on Bermondsey St right now and the ambience is cool while being not too stuffy. We started out with some cheeses and meats: burrata, gorgonzola, and salame. All of the starters were fab, especially the cheeses. We had mains of: pasta with lamb ragu, marinara pizza, and two orders of steak with chips. We were gobbling everything up happily, and I love thin crust pizza, so the highlight for me was the pizza, but the lamb ragu was off the hook too! We ended with a birthday tiramisu and coffees, both superb and a great way to end the night. I have great hopes for this place and hope they continue to gain traction.

Ticino is the new venture just across Bermondsey Street from its namesake bakery. Opening from breakfast forwards, Ticino provides a range of cooked Italian themed breakfast options(and also porridge) for your delectation. I was lured in this morning and was immediately charmed by the simple décor(think uncovered brick walls) and friendly service. That said, porridge and coffee is not a fair way to judge a restaurant. With this in mind, I returned in the evening. Promisingly, the restaurant was buzzing with the sound of contented chatter and bonhomie. I ordered a crab crostini followed by a hanger steak. However, there was lots of choice and the sourdough pizzas seem sure to be popular. The meal started on a low note when a(big) bit of crab shell found its way into my stater. However, the hanger steak was well cooked and the chips that arrived on the side were lovely. That said, nothing really wowed me about either dish in terms of flavour and taste. This said, I am sure that this will improve as the restaurant find To finish, I opted for a perennial favourite, the tiramisu. It arrived in a martini glass which looked good but proved to be slightly unstable, particularly when combined with a full sized spoon. Thankfully the desert itself was lovely. Super light cream with booze infused biscotti. Maybe not entirely traditional but certainly a good way to end the meal.
