The Woodman — a jewel in Battersea Village, and a must… We first came across this jewel in Battersea when we had a flyer handed to us while in Battersea Park, announcing the opening of ‘The Woodman’ under the chef’s(James — Owner) control. Since then we have been a regular diners and even after our move from Battersea to Putney, we have still ended up there for drinks & Sunday lunch meet with friends. I can’t record every having a bad meal there and only once someone wasn’t happy about how rare their beef was, but he was a South African, and they are funny about their steak/beef. Good selection of French wines and there’s a good selection of Ales on the bar. waiting service can be hit or miss but that’s down to waiters/waitresses high turn over, to be honest most pubs have that issue, bar side never been a problem. It’s a popular local so for Sunday lunch so book in advance. It gets a 5 star, as my last visit was good, good service, wonderful food, and it’s sad that the venue is no longer a local for us… Also James and his wife have just left but the head chef worked under James so the standard of food should be fine, and our friends have been back since said nothing have changed.

We came for late afternoon roast and it was great. Nice rare roast beef, plenty of veg and a nice country pub style atmosphere. Only £14 or so, very reasonable value for such a quality roast. The rest of the menu looked good too!

Fantastic Sunday roast(the chicken was so moist — a far cry from the dehydrated scraps you normally get in a pub roast!), great service, and good quality wines — and given my predisposition for drinking nasty wines is about as strong as my desire to drink paint stripper, if I found the rosé pleasant and enjoyable, it had to be something special indeed! The staff were exceptionally lovely and accommodating given the large group of us who wanted to split the bill, and we witnessed one barmaid dealing with an incredibly difficult/stroppy customer with the utmost courtesy and tact. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough. I’ll certainly be going back!

This was a quick one-drink stop before heading onwards for something to eat. Although, if we didn’t already have dinner plans, I imagine we’d be wholeheartedly won over by the chalkboard that boasted of the Woodman’s wood-fired pizzas. All in all, a snug yet slick traditional bar with some nice little touches, including large vintage trunks for tables and jars of seasoned nuts by the bar. Our round was a reasonably priced one and the welcome we received was undeniably warm. What a pity we had dinner plans! Next time, next time…

I really enjoy the back garden patio(open all year thanks to heaters). I also love the wood oven pizza on Fridays and Saturdays.

The woodman is a rustic Battersea pub with lots of history seeping through. It exudes a relaxing environment and is pet friendly. I don’t have a dog myself but am strangely pleased when establishments allow them. I suppose it makes the place feel homier. With a great ale & wine selection coupled with edible pub food and friendly staff the Woodman is a nice but a bit unremarkable choice.

Haven’t been in to The Woodman in a while as the pub quiz became downright pedantic. But the staff are friendly, the food is passable pub fare, and it’s a rather quirky and cute building. A nice little pub in the heart of Battersea High Street.

Love this place! Great beer for a start! Plus it’s a short walk home. The house wine’s good, too. The food’s not bad and reasonably priced, and quiz night’s a laugh. Might see you there, Russell! March 2012 This place has recently been taken over by a young couple, Anna and James — he does the cooking… It’s absolutely FANTASTIC. It is closing on March 19th for 2 weeks as they tart the place up. but I can see this will be VERY popular when it reopens!!!

This has been one of my local pubs for the past year, mostly somewhere to pop in for a quick pint or glass of wine, bite to eat or occasionally to watch the rugby. It’s bigger than it looks from the outside and you have a very good chance of getting a seat on a sofa or at a large table. There is a large outdoor area at the very back of the property, this is shaded but lovely in the summer all the same. Beers are not the usual Young’s plus a range of continental lagers but more unusual brands, however you’ll be able to find something you like. The food is okay but nothing special, the menu was better at one time and the quality of the food has gone downhill in recent months, however they have also reduced prices. There is quiz on a Monday night and they have Sky Sports showing big football matches and international rugby. Overall, a great pub for a drink, but not a gastropub.

A fantastic classic pub which pours with some great ales and the unusual yet tasty HB Export lagers. Great for food such as burgers, fluffy pies and steaks and the new management have brought the cost of these down to a very reasonable £5.95 to £10. For all of you smokers/sun lovers there is a reasonable size beer garden which is great for hire or BBQ’s!
