I am torn on the fate of this pub, having heard that it’s been sold off by Wetherspoons to another pub operating company. On the one hand friends of mine have been drinking here for years and as I occasionally join them I have been a drinker here on too many occasions to count. I have also had a Christmas meal here(not actually on Christmas Day, a Sunday in the run up to the big day). On the other hand this is one of the shadier Wetherspoons pub. There are quite a few types that frequent the pub that I wouldn’t like to run into on a dark street, forming a local rogues gallery of sorts. Also of the Wetherspoons I know in London this one tends to have the least interesting beer selection of them all. It’s generally ok, but the same 2 or 3 breweries dominate. I think overall I’m a little bit on the happy side to see it go. I will be interested to see what the new crew make of it. I am not sure exactly when it is changing hands. I believe the sale is final but right now it is still open as a Wetherspoons pub. I will mark it closed when it’s gone.

It’s not for everyone. Very much a «local» and it’s great if you’re one of those. Cheap food and even cheaper beer, especially as other pubs in the area continue to raise their prices. Ordering food can be chancy, but hey, you get what you pay for. The staff are good for the most part, but can appear lazy at times — depends on the employee though. Generally, I would recommend visiting in the daytime, especially if you’ve got children, as this«local» can get a bit mad in the evening. Basically, you get what you pay for. It’s not five star service or quality but you can’t beat a curry or a steak with a pint for a fiver!

Prices are not to be beaten, there are leather sofas in the back, there’s free wifi and it’s fairly peaceful, without music being blared. The food I’ve tried is so-so, but the cheap drinks and sofas are far more important anyway.

They have the best pancakes in the area. Since I moved a few years ago in the area I’ve been coming to this place almost every weekend for breakfast. They make pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, which taste just heavenly and you can have a whole tasty meal for a price under the average. Additionally the staff are all very nice and friendly and always ready to help you out and greet you with a smile. The decoration just makes this place even more perfect. It is very stylish and modern and yet gives you that old diner feeling, you get when watching old movies.

It’s a Weatherspoons pub. Nothing more nothing less. It’s busy on a Monday as it’s the«Monday-club» where cheap beer is cheaper. The staff are attentive and friendly, the locals(albeit all a little mad) are social and will pass the time of day with you at the bar. At the back of the pub in the restuarant area, there is a glasshouse roof with a few tables underneath it, on a sunny day it is the best place in the Lion to sit with your mates and enjoy not breaking the bank on expensive city pints. Def do drink with my mates there, def wouldn’t take a girl on a date there.

I’ve been here twice. Both times, I believe, one of the regulars died. Well at least it looked and smelled that way. One star for the surreal and darkly humorous experience

I visited the White Lion of Mortimer once weekday lunch time with some colleagues. It looked a little cheap from the outside and was certainly not that great at all. I ordered a baked potato which was pretty acceptable but the salad was a little old and it was literally something I could have made myself. I wouldn’t really pay to drink or eat in here. The pub looks cheap inside and a little stale. Nothing great at all. The atmosphere was lackluster and I was really not impressed at all. There are better places on Stroud Green Road to eat and drink.

In this pub you can not only have a great night out, but also a great morning. I usually went there to have breakfast with friends. And i can tell you that their Farmhouse Breakfast is absolutly yummy. By the way their hot chocolate is tasty aswell. My favourite place to sit is the part in the back with the sofas.

Another skint-days resort is the White Lion of Mortimer in Finsbury Park. This pub is part of the JD Wetherspoon chain, and is a beloved spot for N4 locals. I’m personally loving their Beer and Burger offer where for less than a fiver you can enjoy a pint of your favourite draught and a filling lamb or beef burger with chipsMiam, miam!
