This place has a great range of drinks and the foods tasty. The atmosphere during the day and week nights is pretty chilled and there’s even pool tables at the back! In contrast weekend nights are pretty crowded, though the music tends to be fun and I often end up there after a night out for a pre bedtime dance. Though be warned ladies, it can get a bit gropey so it’s best to go in a mixed group!

Nice pub on Brixton Hill. It’s had a makeover(see photo) since I last visited. Looks like they do pretty nice food. I came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t too busy. Decent beer selection. If you live in the area not a bad local boozer.

my favourite watering hole in SW2. Complete with a pool table. Very good memories have been created in this place.

It was the first time we were there and we wanted to try the Sunday roast. It was quite disappointing. The gravy obviously wasn’t homemade and the yorkshire puddings were a joke(they looked like pancakes ¿?). The meat(we ordered chicken and beef) was ok and the vegs tasted nice. But it wasn’t my favourite roast at all. My dessert was a Baileys cheesecake which was clearly homemade because you can never buy a cheesecake in a shop that’s the base thicker than its filling. It tasted nice, but it wasn’t amazing. I like the pub, to be honest. It is nice and the staff are very friendly. And I wanna try other things in the menu. But I don’t think I will go back for a Sunday lunch.

Amazing pub. Great roasts(at very reasonable prices), good selection of alcohol and cozy sofas as well as normal tables. Nice place for a quite drink or a slightly more party atmosphere on a Saturday night. A few seats out the front for sunny days for some good people watching or dark corners inside.

This place is filled with happiness in my mind! Only been here twice, but both with a certain someone and the drinks are good, as in the music and they have a pool table! Winning

If only it were just a *little* closer to where I live. Is that asking so much? The food is tasty. The vibe is local. The lighting is dim. The noise level is «busy». The service is good(could be a touch more attentive). But the most important thing is… the people. This is the kind of place where a group might start in the comfy armchairs, then migrate to the bar, then end up dancing on the tables by 9pm, while others(yours truly) watch bemusedly. But even when well past tipsy, servers and customers just really *nice*. You don’t get that everywhere, you know.

Fantastic pub with good pub grub and cool DJs on the weekend. The staff are mostly on top of things too which is a nice change from other places. Fun décor as well. I love the branches hanging from the ceiling that change with the seasons. Nice touch!

Not a cosy pub, but quite pleasant and chilled all the same. I like the unusual décor featuring plants. Sounds like it becomes a different place late at night on the weekendtrendy. loud music.so I should probably avoid that. A couple of beers from Caledonian, IPA and Golden Son. Bit pricy for the area at 3.70. Served in jugs with handles.

The food here is good dependable pub fare. Great for a sunday chilled boozing and eating session to ease the hangover nerves! Comfy couches, a pub dog, long serving friendly stuff and just-grubby-enough to be reassuring and you’ve got all the ingredients for a perfect lazy sunday. The place becomes a crazy meat-market rave on Fridays and Saturdays, and can be fun if that is your bag. It’s great for a midweek drink if you’re more into the chilled vibes. Has the great mixed Brixton crowd — not too hipster not too dorky. The décor could do with a revamp — they have some pretty random decorations hanging around from god-knows-which festive day!

It is not easy to review my favourite pub, but I’ll try. First the atmosphere here is somehow cozy and party at the same time. Also the people visiting the pub(or club?) give additional vibes to the place. The party weekends are my fav. You can hear good music and dance as cheezy as you want. The food and beer are at reasonable prices. Stop thinking and go to Brixton to The White Horse.

This is a nice place only on weekdays. Otherwise you will find yourself rubbing shoulders with a bunch of suits and a very disproportionate male to female ratio. Sausage fest anyone?

I’ve only been here once and it was a bank holiday Sunday. It was quite busy and we had to wait a few minutes to get in(even though loads of people had just come out). The door staff weren’t the friendliest and it felt like everywhere I put my drink down I was told to move it. However, the music was loud, the atmosphere was good and there was no entry fee unlike Brixton’s Dogstar which is a similar venue on weekend evenings. I’d definitely go back. It was also easy to grab a taxi outside just flag one rather than accepting the offer of the doormen arranging one for you and you’ll save money.

Baked camembert fondue with caramelised onions & baguette. Tiger prawn spaghetti with sunblush tomato, chilli, basil & rocket. Beef, ale & mushroom pie with chips or mash. Rib eye steak & chips with garlic butter. Chicken, avocado, bacon & camembert burger with chips. Steak sandwich with rocket & caramelised onions with chips… Really, there are not enough hours in the day!

Sunday lunch is ace. Decent wine list, good service and great atmosphere. It’s just round the corner from me, and i would go more often but it’s a bit expensive. Wish they would charge brixton prices and not west end prices.

Yes, this is a 5 star pub. For me anyway. I like cozy midweek pubs with great food that turn out to be secret(or not so much anymore) party spots come the weekend. Its a nice touch to be able to go to the same place for chilled wednesday drinks, all out Saturday partying and return again for a cracking sunday lunch and relax on the sofas. Friendly staff, decent beer selection, POOLTABLE and very commendable pub food for prices which won’t sting. It, along with Brixton, is becoming quite popular of late. I’d recommend getting down there to stake a spot before it’s too late.

A great place anytime of day, any day of the week. A fabulous bar to have on my doorstep and proud to call my local. They’ve got a cute dog too that wanders around aimlessly.

Quite possibly my second-favourite place in my ‘hood, but worth going out for. Laid-back, mismatched tables and chairs, hand-painted tables that don’t feel hippy at all(somehow), hip without trying, well-poured Guinness. I am probably to old to be in there(I think everyone else was under 30, and I’m very much ‘not to be trusted’. But I felt welcome and not looked down at. A decent selection of beers and a fabulous vibe. Not too dim, not too bright, comfortable. Love in a pint glass.

As I embrace the fact that I am slowly falling in love with Brixton, stepping into The White Horse merely confirmed this. A cosy, busy pub full of hippy, arty urban types, sipping regular pub tipples in low lighting with intoxicating reggae music. You can’t really ask for more when it comes to a pub, like Katy l says, there is a pool table which is a winner along with great music being pumped out at a happy volume from the roof. It was a freezing cold Thursday yet this pub was full, we squeezed ourselves onto a table with another group and sat around chatting for ages. A wonderful watering hole as my father would say!

This pub is so good I actually risk having my bum pinched several times over on the way up Brixton Hill to go there. First of all, it has a pool table which should be minimum requirement for any pub but unfortunately isn’t. They also have a late licence and decks, which again, I think should be mandatory for any establishment calling itself a pub but unfortunately there are pubs in this country that cant even be bothered to get a music licence at all, which means that sometimes you have to drink lager with only the voices in your head for company. Finally and crucially they have fantastic food. I went there today and had a chicken burger which came not only with red onions, lettuce and tomato but Camembert, bacon, avocado and the best chunky chips I’ve had in ages. The Whitehorse is the pub that dreams are made of quite simply. They also get bonus points for having wonderfully nice staff. My burger was not dumped down without the necessary condiments, nor was I directed to collect my own cutlery from a bucket on the other side of the room. Service with a smile and maybe a witty aside here and there is what we need more of in this world and at this pub you get it with bells on. They even have a gorgeous black Labrador called George, he’s a bit of a scrounge but don’t feed him because he’ll be sick.
