Completely shocked at the service I just got at the dining room upstairs. My mother and I went up to get a table and when we asked for a table the tall French waiter with a black mustache said it would be 30 minutes. We said alright and he immediately said loudly«BYEBYE» waving at us very condescending while my mother was trying to decide if we wanted to stay. My mother said very calmly and politely«you know that was very rude» and he repeated«bye bye» once again. We were so shocked we walked out.

Had a lovely meal in the dining area upstairs. Ham hock was deceptively large! Absolutely gorgeous! Staff very friendly. Something we will always remember… The battle of Waterloo is the same day as our wedding anniversary! Great pub quiz knowledge

I came here for high tea for $ 20 for a great deal but the snack wasn’t that great n the tea was good for me but not my lady. My son enjoy the snack. I did like the friendly serves, comfortable seats and light musics.

I had about 2 hours to kill before my Lion King show, so, I decided to have a pint at the pub next door called The Wellington. One of the things I wanted to do was experience more of the typical English fare besides Fish & chips. This is my first time ordering from an English pub and I learned some very useful tips as I wanted to sit outside in the beautiful sun(though the weather was a it cool). I had to order everything inside the bar and they would deliver it to me outside — sound good enough. I decided to start off with a salad called The London Particular, it was made with pea purée with mint, underneath greens and pulled Ham. Delicious and different,(I’m being honest!). I loved the texture of the peas and how it was the«dressing» for this salad, it was a great mix of savory, salty, and sweet. The main dish was this«English Pie» named ‘British Beef and Nicholson’s Pale Ale’. I kept reading and hearing about pies from signage from different restaurants and decided to take the leap to try one. I’m glad I did! Crusty, flaky crust, and a molten, hot filling of sliced beef and gravy! WOW! With an extra side of gravy to pour over the mashed potatoes and the al dente vegetables, it was a great combination for a meal. If you’re going to see the Lion King at the Lyceum theater, The Wellington Pub is right next door, sit and enjoy a pint of beer and order some great food before your show! I am sure you will love the food and service! Cheers!

I came here in the early afternoon to get some work done. They have free wifi! So i ordered a pint of cider and sat down. The cider was fairly priced for central london and i think the whole experience was cheap if you factor in how pleasant the pub is. I listen to mostly edm but the jazz playing in the background was really nice. That combined with the sun coming thru the window and the spacious area makes for a great experience

I always end up at the Wellington, when I stay at the Strand Palace. There’s plenty of room and a variety of beers. There’s good music as well! I only give three stars because the tables were quite dirty and they didn’t have a normal wheat beer.

I like the Nicholsons brand because most have a separate dining room away from the noise of a crowded pub .In my experience the food is consistent wherever you eat… The Wellington was no exception. friendly service with hearty food(a bit of up selling which l abhor… if l want extra sides l will ask thankyou very much !) Venison and Port pie left no room for pud

We were not welcome there. We were 6 of us around 3:30pm, we announced that some of us would eat others just have drinks… The place was empty, the girl first took menus, started to walk us to a table, then stopped and said: you know what guys, I prefer keeping the table for 6 people eating… Come on, the place was empty, it’s a pub, we would probably all have ended up eating and would have left before diner time. Stupid. Go to Bill’s nearby, they are actually cool and welcoming.

I like this place quite a lot. It’s located in Central London yet it’s not a tourist trap. The clients were very pleasant, the atmosphere neither too loud nor too quiet, just the right mix to feel good. The menu offered a variety of dishes /drinks /beers to choose from, we opted for fish & chips, which was delicious, the beer very tasty. The waiter(s) treated us very nicely, which made the whole experience worthwhile. In summary: I place I’d like to recommend.

We ate here while vacationing in London and it was a lack luster experience. Our food was served inaccurate and cold and when it was corrected it lacked flavor. Service was slow. I gave it the rating I did thought because we loved the atmosphere and the location. The downstairs bar looked like everyone was having fun but we were on family vacation with our young son so that wasn’t an option for us. Good beer and plenty of it. Sit outside and enjoy the people watching. This is the classic British pub, close to everything. We were referred here from the concierge of The Savoy Hotel — and he was right. Lovely time, lovely place, outdoor seating, great people– and a fine selection of beers.

English pub with a feeling of a nice social interaction along with a good selection of craft beers on tap. Sense of old world charm with plenty of character and ambiance. Staff was friendly to this foreigner, prices were reasonable and establishment was clean. Centrally located and surrounded by plenty of other pubs nearby as well. I have to say it’s nice not having to worry about tipping as compared to the states were its expected regardless of service quality.

Interesting how two pubs owned by the same corporation two blocks apart can be so different. Like The Coal Hole, this is a Nicholson pub but slower and the staff is much less organized.(And The Coal Hole has it’s problems with urgency.) The bartenders were all females this evening and nice, but unable to desk with the number of customers and their quirks. A big difference, I think, is that at least this evening this was the children’s bar. Lots of people of borderline drinking age in the bar and on the patio. I waited to order for more than five minutes behind a group of teenagers ordering what seemed to be the second beer on their live. Is there a manager here? The patio is packed with smokers(which is the point of the patio) but there is a table of twelve bringing in booze from outside. They will leave a huge mess and perhaps half was purchased from the bar. The Iron Duke would be appalled. Here’s an interesting twist. At last call, they collected all the ashtrays while there were still 41 people(I just counted) smoking on the patio. What do they think is going to happen with the butts now and why do they think it’s going to discourage anyone who still has a drink in hand?

As typical tourists, we were seeking out a fish and chip experience on Good Friday in London. We were captured by the old pub charm of The Wellington, and made our way up to the 2nd floor where there is full table service. The staff were welcoming and friendly and constantly checked on on us. Given this is a traditional corner pub, there was not a lot of room, and tables are placed pretty close together. Our table for two was a small round table with not a great deal of elbow room. The fish and chips were… well fish and chips. It was ok, but the real show stopper for me was the eside of mushy peas which were amazing. The wine I selected was not crash hot, there is something about the white wine here that is not like what we can get in Australia. We topped our meals off with some plain vanilla icecream which was quite yum. Well located for a meal prior to a show.

Touristenfalle? Könnte man fast meinen!

Came here with my husband for the Sunday roast. I ordered the lamb shank roast even though I wanted the chicken. The restaurant had run out of chicken and the vegetarian roast so I has no choice but to choose either the beef or lamb roast. The Yorkshire pudding, lamb, and vegetables were delish! My husband ordered the fish and chips and mentioned that it was the best fish and chips he had! We both ordered beers. I got the Stella black which was amazing and not to mention one of wellington’s draft beers. My husband ordered the Nicholson’s pale ale which he wasn’t very fond of. Overall, I was very pleased with the dinner and would definitely come back to try their other menu items like the pies. Great customer service too!

I had Sunday roast at the Wellington recently. The Wellington is located on the Strand near the Waterloo bridge. For as busy as the area is, we were greeted into a cozy and charming dining room that seemed tucked away from the hustle and bustle. The service was great and attentive. My friend and I both opted for the Sunday roast which was very tasty and generously portioned. Apart from the roast, the menu featured many British staples such as bangers and mash, fish and chips, etc. I thought we got very good value for the price as it was one of the more reasonably-priced roasts I’ve had. I would definitely go back here for a roast or otherwise as I think it’s a solid place with good food with a great, comfortable ambiance.

I had a pretty unusual meal at The Wellington when my friend and I tucked in for dinner on her last night in London. She had a chicken and mushroom pie, which looked amazing, and I had the hot Brie, and we split a sticky toffee pudding. Really, it was all very English. We sat upstairs in the dining room, which was warm and inviting in both service and aesthetics. My friend appreciated watching all the workings of the bar and dumbwaiter in the relatively quiet restaurant, and we shared our time enjoyably. For a chain pub, it was much better than I expected, and the location(on Strand, right in the West End) really can’t be beat. Prices were good too. For a last dinner, it was really a great pub experience(albeit not boozy since my friend is seven months pregnant, but other than that, really pubbish).

Comfy pub that is a little small on the ground floor, though they apparently have more seating and dining room upstairs. There are also quite a few outside tables. Sitting outside if great as there is a great view down Lancaster Place toward Waterloo Bridge. I didn’t have anything to eat, but I did enjoy the beer. They have a few taps and bottles of the usual mass produced but there are some guest ales that aren’t rare but are at least uncommon. Well poured and not too expensive. A nice pub for a rest while you’re sightseeing.
