Popped in for lunch with colleagues as was visiting office nearby. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I had a burger with blue cheese and mushroom and it was really fantastic. Service was very quick, perfect for lunchtime. Would definitely return.

Review number 150 on the same day I got my first ROTD– woohoo! Ahem, where was I? Oh yes, the Star and Anchor. This used to be called the New Anchor and men used to hug a light and lager whilst puffing on a Woodbine. No more! Now it’s all gastro pub darkness and Lithuanian lagers. We came on a Sunday evening straight from the next door establishment of the Castlebar. A pub crawl was needed due to it being Sunday night. Anyway, although the Castlebar is far more popular, I think this place is better. Neither is a real ale pub. Both have token keg beers, but they aren’t the place for drinking them. The Star has a very good bottled beer selection, including some Brewdog ales. We had the Five AM red ale-very good. There were a few people in but it wasn’t busy. They do food also. Will try on another night. Service was nice and the overall atmosphere was pleasant. As Douglas McArthur said-I will return.

Very smart bar that also manages to be very friendly, not usually the case with the Gastropub in my experience. Excellent choice of wines including a white Rijoa which keeps bringing me back. An excellent looking menu, though I must confess I haven’t eaten here yet but intend to as soon as I arrive in Ealing early enough

Stop 2 on our journey along the pubs on the Uxbridge road. It describes itself as Ealings ‘hidden gem’. Being on the main road I can’t see how it’s hidden, but it is indeed a bit of a gem. It’s a little trendier than its neighbours. Darker and chick. Large bunkett areas, lounge parts and a very nice garden(from what I could tell at 5pm of a winter eve). The staff were friendly and attentive. Notible point, their toilets smelt lovely. Very rare you can say that!

Great, gem of a pub in West Ealing with a good crowd and very good food. Bright, welcoming surroundings with friendly service, infinitely better than anything near Ealing Broadway. Highly recommend.

I grew up with English parents but live in the states where Sunday roasts aren’t a tradition and are tough to find. So whilst visiting London I came across a website rating Sunday Roasts and this place scored well. Even though it was«in the burbs,» you can get there by tube(or train from Paddington), plus you get to see a nabe without a single tourist. The pub is big, bright and modern… more«new restaurant» feel than town pub. In addition to traditional roast beef, they also offer chicken and pork with cracklin as Sunday specials… but I stuck with the bovine. The staff were friendly and it wasn’t long before a massive plate of food arrived. It included: — several thick slices of aged roast beef swimming in juices/gravy — an assortment of of roasted vegetables — a massive yorkshire pudding When I recovered from my food coma a few hours later, Doctors noted I still had a smile on my face. Big, bright, beautiful food perfectly prepared. And a real value at 13 pounds. My only problem is I can’t show my mum any pictures of the meal because it makes her Yorkshire puddings look like ritz crackers.
