It’s Polish food. Ok so now we’ve got that out of the way and we know it’s going to be a bit plain, you can eat here safe in the knowledge that it’s worth a visit. Tasty enough. Given that there is a huge Polish community in the UK, give this place a go and you’ll know what you’re looking at in the Polish section of Sainsbury’s next time. Good service, genuinely nice food and reasonable prices. Yes it is basically boiled meat and quite a lot of cabbage, but it’s Polish!

I love this place as it’s like going to your mum’s home — except your mum’s polish and is a brilliant cook. From what I know the Spitfire is a bit of an institution. I’ve been there about 5 times and always had the porogi(spelling sorry!) which are little dumplings along with the ‘hunters dish’ which is a mixture of cabbage and polish sausage. I must admit these are things I would never even think of eating(never ate cabbage before going to the spitfire and wont eat it anywhere else!) There are both entrée’s and mains on the menu, but we love having lots of the starters(they bring them out on large platters with vegetables on the side) and sharing a few vodka’s & apple juice. The lady who runs the place is soo lovely, she always helps us with our Polish pronunciation and makes you feel very special. The only problem is that it’s not open on Monday nights oh, and they only take cash so be prepared! Enjoy, I’d eat this every night if I could.

This restaurant serves EXCELLENT home cooked Polish fare. It is unbelievably cheap for London and is true value for money. It was opened by a Polish gentleman who was the pilot of a spitfire in WW2. For this reason the place is plastered in awards, photos of spitfires and all sorts of other war memorabilia. The décor is rather dated but in a way that adds to the charm of this wonderful restaurant. The owner is a charming Polish lady who took over the place several years ago. She is very helpful and always has a smile on her face. I had the polish pierogi which are a kind of ravioli which were very tasty and my dad had home made sausage with cabbage which was also delicious. We shared a started of soup and both had a drink and coffee and the total came to £20. Bargain! Definitely recommended.
