Bar staff were nice and there was a good range of drinks on offer, but the price was something else entirely given it’s not even in central London! Also, the vibe/music etc. is a little bit pretentious, so if you’re looking for a down-to-earth local, this is not your place.

This is a lovely pub, perfect for a drink with friends. The food is good, but the value for money is hit and miss. Some dishes are well priced, others are ridiculously expensive. The cheese plate, for example, costs £7.50 and has three tiny morsels of cheese with some accompaniments. I felt ripped off when I bought this.

Went for Sunday roast. Lovely restaurant in the back, and they accommodated our pram which was unexpected. I had the beef roast, served with a nice helping of gravy and duck fat roasted potatoes and Yorkshire pudding and veggies. It was quite tough, really could’ve used a sharper knife and prefer my roast more tender. My husband had the pork roast which he found nice, though a little tough as well. We had the bread and olives to start, which were actually very nice. Looking for our Sunday roast spot — think we will keep looking, but would recommend for anyone in the area.

A nice pub, with good food, decently priced(I had soup once, lamb another time, and brunch recently). I will go back– a nice venue with good food.

Nice beer: good reals, good selection, well kept, fresh. Average food. Starters expensive for size of portions and effort in preparation(i.e. don’t bother), main courses very nice, pork belly and trout nice. Sticky toffee pudding disappointing, just sponge with average sauce and ice cream, seemed like it was prepared in a real hurry. Good atmosphere, vibrant. Low light. Lot of groups. Service wasn’t great and they weren’t full. 20 mins to take order, although did come over during meal, 15 min wait for pudding. They add 12.5% service charge which they didn’t earn. Didn’t pay it and they didn’t complain. In summary: nice atmosphere, good beer, food ok but not outstanding, service needs work. Would go back.

NOT A GREATPLACETOSPENDYOURMONEY. Weirdly abusive and obnoxious staff. Well, at least tonight. But am left feeling angry and frustrated enough to bother writing a review. Kitchen closes at 10pm and at 9:50 we went to place our order. Much to our surprise, they refused to take our order because the kitchen was going to close soon. Not yet. But soon. Makes no sense… I know. We tried to understand where they were coming from but the horrible bar girl told us if we didn’t like it «then get out». We retreated to our table to finish the drinks we unfortunately already ordered and joked and tried to make light of it amongst our group(all of us feeling very confused) when the crazy bar girl came running over practically foaming at the mouth aggressively hurling abuse at us for what we and everyone around us genuinely agreed was for no reason at all… This is when it stopped being funny and just got really weird. Absolutely can’t recommend it at all. Went here for years and years, and will not be going back again after this crazy/uncomfortable experience. Management would do well to reconsider staff.

Although a little bit of an upgrade from the Assembly House nearby, I don’t think I can say too much about this place. They had some good beers on cask, but the rest of the menu was the macro selection you see everywhere else. The starters were ok, but nothing to rave about. Not bad for a casual pint though.

We had our wedding reception at The Oxford because we used to be their local and knew their food was amazing. All of our guests were satisfied with a wide range of menu and the quality of food. Their home made fishcake was awesome. Their service was professional and staff were friendly. The manager and team worked hard and made our party unforgettable. They organised venue decoration for us and cared for our guests throughout the party. We definitely recommend The Oxford!

We’ve been coming here for a few years and can honestly say they have one of the best and consistent Sunday roasts. It’s £14 but the beef and the sides never disappoint. And a huge Yorkshire pudding. Fridays and Saturdays can be busy. And tunes are always good. For today’s Sunday lunch we were treated to Belle & Sebastian and Velvet Underground

Well this is my first review and I decided to be my favourite pub in Kentish. The food is good, the service is good and the beer is good. What else do you need? The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is typical pub style. If you are hungry in Kentish try The Oxford.

This is a food focused review, so the most important thing you need is that they stop taking food orders at 10pm. I quickly ordered the Black Pudding Scotch Egg and Chips. There was some trouble with the BPSE, mainly they couldn’t find it in their system, but the order was made. It was battered meat goodness accompanied by a mustard sauce with pearl onions. The fries were ok, though I would have preferred them just a bit crispier. Overall, a great nighttime place for inexpensive filling food.

Les tarifs sont un peu eleves, mais la deco est sympa et l’on peut apres un apero passer dans l’autre salle pour diner. Le menu change souvent, la cuisine est directement dans la salle et c’est bon !

As I am a big fan of the beers the good people at Skinners make, you can imagine my frustration when the baRrell ran dry as my pint was being poured. Cornish coaster was a decent enough consolation prize… then that ran out and I had to take this up with the landord. a pint of tim taylor’s landord that is, the third and final string to their bow. The back of the pub is very gastro, but if you just want a snack then the current trend for scotch eggs is alive and well here. There are rooms upstairs that can be hired for private use. Beware of Jazz!

Gig night at the Forum, pre-gig drinks are definitely in order. Just South of the Kentish Town tube this little gem sits. I personally think it is a better meeting place than the apply named Assembly House. There were several plush arm chairs and tables to sit at, not to mention the bar. The drinks were plentiful and the food smelled really good. The Oxford will definitely will be the go to meet up spot pre-gigs at The Forum.

I think I have found my new favourite spot, pre-gig at the Forum just up the road. The Oxford became more of a shelter than a destination while the heavens opened above last night. Quite a monsoon, huh? But lucky for me, I found a pretty good place to park my drenched self while the streets flooded outside. A jug of rum punch sorted me and my friend out right away. What rain? we asked, while sipping the delicious concoction. Unfortunately, The Oxford also experienced some problems because of the weather… their dining area had to be closed due to a leaking roof. Never mind, the bartender told us… you can still eat your dinner at one of the bar tables. Fantastic! The food was good — better than expected, but also with a bit of price tag attached. That was fine by me though. I was in the mood for a decent meal rather than some greasy pub food. I enjoyed the tuna steak with plantain chips and mango salsa, while my friend had the chicken with potatoes dauphinoise and green beans. After we stuffed ourselves on the yummy grub and drank several more glasses of rum punch, we were on our way to getting our faces melted at the Forum with time to spare. For those of you who want a sophisticated place to grab a drink and a bite before throwing ‘bows in the pit, then roll on up to The Oxford. It may not be very rock ‘n roll, but I’m sure even Joan Jett can appreciate a good glass of pinot noir every now and then.

I’ve walked past The Oxford more times than I can count but Easter monday came along and something inside me cried out for a cheeky beverage. I was surprises at the big crowd the bank holiday had drawn but luckily still got a table to plunk down on. Every element of this pub has been carefully considered. The décor is classy and seemingly new with chandeliers, beige & red walls, matching wooden seating and an attractive open kitchen. The ground floor is split into drinking and dining and both were heavily occupied but still comfortable. The clientele appeared to be predominantly 25 – 35 years old and drinks were reasonably priced. While all the features of a perfect bar seem to have been thought of, unfortunately you can’t buy atmosphere. Something about perfection lacks character but of course that is just my opinion.

For a Monday night The Oxford was extraordinarily busy. The atmosphere was jovial, chatty and I had the feeling of being in a local’s bar. The clientele was a mixed bunch, although there wasn’t a Shoreditch type trendie in sight. With high ceilings and clean décor the aesthetics of this bar are pleasing. The back part of the establishment is designated for food that looks a cut above your regular pub grub. The space used for dining leaves a relatively small seating area around the bar for the drinkers. There is a hall upstairs used for live music and the popular Quiz night on a Tuesday that is hosted by the awesomely named Bobby Dazzler. Although The Oxford has all the attributes of a great bar, I didn’t resonate with the place. There seemed to be a lack of character in the building that seemed morphed within its patrons. I am sure I will come across vehement objections to that statement. In comparison to the ultra colourful Camden and Shoreditch where I frequent regularly, The Oxford doesn’t quite match up.

The Oxford is such a gorgeous pub in the heart of Kentish Town. All newly-refurbished and fancy-schmancy, it’s great for a special night out, or just some cheeky Sunday afternoon cocktails. I have to disagree with Matthew’s review — Kentish Town is far from an ugly area! There may not be a lot of late-night places nearby to go locally, but Camden is less than a 5-minute cab ride(or 15 minute walk) away!

Of the two pubs near Kentish Town Tube this is the one you simply must check out. Taken over not too long ago the pub has been given a great face lift and looks superb. Better still the gastropub attracts a really young and trendy clientele who obviously appreciate the good quality menu and range of drinks/Of course you pay for quality but there really is nothing else that touches this place in the local vicinity. The only drawback to the venue is its actual location as it really is an ugly area and you are limited of choice of places to move onto unless you decide to nestle down here all night or head towards Camden.

The Oxford is an upmarket pub in Kentish Town. The décor is gorgeous. I feel like I’ve entered Gucci’s living room when I step into this place. They serve really high class food, like shrimp wrapped in seaweed, and their prices are slightly expensive(£10 a meal and £7 for a vodka and cranberry). They have an upstairs area that can be rented out for special occasions which is equally as regal as the rest of the pub. This is definitely worth a trip.

Can a pub try and be too many things? I sometimes wonder that about the Oxford. It’s got a nice chatty bar in one half with casual sofas you can lose yourself in and a mix of old school long and small pub tables and then the other half is a sit down restaurant which does good food. The split feels a little odd and it’s not really helped by the pumping tunes in the bar and no music at all in the restaurant — that combined with occasionally having a small TV on for big football or rugby matches makes for a place that feels like it isn’t quite confident in what it is. Having said all that — I’m a fan. It’s got a nice chilled out upstairs to get away from the busy bar, and the food on the whole is generally really good. Décor is dark traditional pub and works well. Staff are efficient and friendly in the bar, and they have had some excellent staff in the restaurant — interesting and fun. It’s also got a whole load of benches outside for the smokers amongst us. It can get really busy on a Friday and Saturday night, and watch out for turfing out time on a Sunday from The Church at the Forum as you are going to find a lot of very drunk antipodeans rolling in… not perhaps ideal for a far Sunday reading the papers…
