I’ve been living in London for five years and this is one of the best pubs I’ve came across! Reasonably priced and great music! And, you can hear yourself think and speak!

Big old pub! We got exactly what we were looking for after a good walk around Shoreditch. I quite liked the décor of the place with old guns on the walls and some how-to instructions for making Guinness. The drink is of a normal price and the crowd is more talk than dance. The obviously meant that the music was quiet for the most part — works for me!

I can’t comment on the food, not having eaten here, but as a drinking pub The Gun definitely passes muster clientele are an odd mix of tourists and City types, but lends the place a buzz. Definitely has a certain shabby comfortableness to the décor, but given it is a busy pub, cleanliness was good no sticky tables here. The Gun(4.1%) and the XPA available on our visit were both well kept pints.

In the words of Dylan Thomas, «It’s a pub. Where’s my drink?» It’s not really very quaint, cozy, or charming. It is what it is… a big, old pub next to brand new London. If the place was quaint, cozy, or charming, the contrast would be appreciated. However there’s no much pop. Still, if you want a fairly priced beverage in an area being swallowed by chains, this could remain an island of goodness.

The service was appalling. There’s a blonde lady who may have been abused as a child and is taking it out on the subpar tesco burgers. Ask her for mayo? She gives you cut eye and brings it if you have the balls to ask again. And the bathrooms? Not that nice. The stalls don’t lock, although the sinks aren’t bad. Wouldn’t come back here, just wished Ten Bells offered pub food.

Very good place for a proper pint, ok for food. The Gun sports traditional pub décor and a restaurant upstairs, and the staff is very friendly. The large windows in the dining room and views across Brushfield Street to Spitalfields Market are quite pleasant to dine by. However, I didn’t find the food as great as some of the other reviews: the veg looked and tasted as if cooked from frozen, and so did the main. So, overall 3 stars but I’d happily go back for some Abbot’s Ale.

Here we go again… writing a review on a pub which can be duplicated across london for these reasons: Same food, same booze, same decore as every pub across London. I really hate pubs for that reason. Its a great british character, but having it duplicated so many times, when you live here you kinda get sick of it. But i’m going stop my whining. If it was that bad, I would take the next fan boat back to Miami. So as previously stated, this pub has similar features to a million other pubs… but has one thing on the rest of them. Super clean and modern bogs! Yea, that’s right. The bogs are newly redone. Not one drop of urine on the floors or seats. It blew my mind, I though surly I have been transported to a nice hotel or something. Cause even in the cleaner pubs… they NEVER clean their bogs let alone modernise them. Way!

A traditional edge of City pub, which for once was saved by the global economic crash. It was planned to be knock down together with the Sugar Exchange next door, but the developers came a cropper and it was saved. Run by the same couple since 1976(i believe). An excellent haunt downstairs with a hidden gem of a restaurant upstairs. The signature Steak and Kidney pudding is one for the brave and i wouldn’t suggest you have a starter if you order this. Pre and post lunch nibbles are a thing from the past but excellently served. Top drawer for proper English food, served well with a proper pint. Redeveloped beer garden out the back with an all weather tv for those summer sporting highlights. 5 stars for the food upstairs, although 3 for the pub downstairs, hence the 4 overall. Highly recommended.

When it’s warm outside all you want to do is stand on the road and have a nice cold drink… my drink of choice is Pimms. Although the pub itself is pretty run of the mill, the location is pure gold. It’s on a road that has minimal traffic so you won’t gag on bus fumes or have to shout over motorbikes. The crowd is mixed, but during the week it’s heavily populated by city boys. If you’re looking to pick up a guy who can provide for you while you lunch with the ladies, this is the pub for you. Or, if you just need a bit of entertainment, city boys are always good for a bit of a laugh(behind their backs of course!)

This kind of place could be better with a better clientele. You can almost smell the greed when you come in here! I have some suggestions for what the titular gun could be used for as I am sure does most of the country after the recent global financial woe. The pub is alright though. They serve 4 real ales and the one I had was quite nice. The staff seemed friendly enough(considering the type of people they have to deal with) and the layout is alright. There are some comfortable booths at the front of the pub if you find them before the next infestation of bankers takes hold.

A huge traditional boozer with an bustling eclectic crowd of local residents and city workers. The barmaids are as mad as a bag of cats but the speed and efficiency of service is astounding. There is a quieter room near the main bar if it isn’t already full and they have a small beer garden too. As far as beers go, the Broadside is good, the Bombardier is good, the Deuchars isn’t, but then it isn’t good anywhere, I think they make it that way deliberately. In the summer the place is busy inside and out where they have cunningly installed these handy fold out table top things attached to the window sills for beer restage. A very real pub and a good one.

Traditional silver service restaurant above the pub opposite Spittalfields Market. Steak and Kidney pudding only to be tried by those with a gargantuan appetite. First class service.

my husband and friends love the super cold guinness. it’s a great place to grab drinks and/or a bit to eat. I like the restaurant menu over the pub menu. the duck leg was fantastic and fries were yummy. there’s a good story to the place and I love that it’s in a residential area and not too crowded.

A traditional boozer, The Gun is one of those pubs that is harder and harder to find in Spitalfields. Most pubs have gone slightly more designery, changing their interior to host swanky wallpaper and an attitude to go with it. Here you will find mostly men, and mostly guys that work around the area. They have a good selection of beers including: Broadside, Bombardier, IPA, etc. They have an upstairs floor with a dinning room. Its an ok pub for me, it has a different vibe from the other pubs around. Sometimes they host sporting events that are shown on the telly.

The shin burger i had at the gun was by far the best burger i have ever had. I can’t comment on the restaurant service as i ordered at the bar but service there was good.

Great old fashioned east-end boozer with none of the usual drawbacks of drinking there. No pretentious crowd. No vests and flatcaps. Just very nice bar staff, decent beer, and a lot of guns and war memorabilia(including the keys to a spitfire!) on the wall. We watched Scotland’s triumph… er… sorry I can’t say anything after the other night now can I…
