The menu is simple, the ambiance is not great(old fashioned with a diner vibe) but the fish and chips are GREAT! I tried a few places on my trip to London, however this was the best place. The service was very quick and the waiters were helpful in making a selection. If you are on a trip, it is also very nice to take a walk around the neighborhood after an outstanding meal! Also, it looked like most individuals at the restaurant were locals because the owner greeted everyone and asked how the family or the holidays were for them. Also, some patrons brought holiday gifts for the owner.

A long established fish & chips restaurant frequented by tourists and regulars. Service was efficient and friendly. My order of skate wing and chips was freshly prepared, the fish tasted very fresh without excessive oily batter. One new fact I learnt from the manager/owner was that skate wing bones are edible, so no risk of choking on fish bones! Golden Hind is conveniently located near Selfridges where you can have a quick meal at reasonable cost during a shopping trip.

I’ve heard so many good things about this place that perhaps my expectations were too high. In fact for what I got, they were way too high. Set in the trendy area of Marylebone Lane, The Golden Hind is a kickback to where most cafes and fish and chip shiops in London cosisted of hard chairs and formica topped dining tables. The basic environment actually lent well to the food it serves. I felt sure that my fish and chips would be exceptional — They were not! I ordered a portion of chips with battered Plaice. Th plaice tasted good, but the batter was to thick for me. There just seemed too much batter in relation to the white of the fish itself. The chips were also too dry for my liking, and warm rather than hot. I used a lot more tartar sauce than I would normally, to detract from the dryness of the meal. The cup of tea I had looked like a proper builders strong tea, but rather than coming up in a good builders size cup, it was served in quite a small cup with saucer. At £15 including service, to me it was not good value. In act when we left, we passed the new Ivy Café, also on Marylebone Lane. They offer a fish and chip meal including mashed peas for £14.50. I think I might be trying their fish and chips next time.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. As the other reviewers posted, the portions are very large and definitely shareable. We had the cod fish which was very tasty. We had the calamari to start, which we wouldn’t recommend. Also, the BYOB is great, especially with the Tesco down the street. As fish and chips shops go, we would highly recommend.

Fish & Chips! We chose cod and it was lightly battered and not too oily. Generous portions and fair prices. Highly recommend.

Can’t help but give it five stars based on it delivering on exactly what you would expect — a great fish & chips spot. I had the fried cod with chips and a Greek salad. Fish was great and great fresh salad. I also had the ginger beer that was recommended. All delivered and it was clearly a family owned place with the family members working there. Great service on top of it all.

It was a particularly good haddock. The reputation is deserved. Douse liberally with vinegar. The fries are a bit too mush though. The mushy peas, on the other hand, are a good amount of mushy. Being mushy peas.

I was craving fish and chips and The Golden hind was on my list to try, so we did! It was good, but just nothing special so I’m struggling to write much about it! The restaurants is really casual and I did love the BYOB option. Ideal for a cheap catchup with some friends before you venture off somewhere else, but again you could do better. I had cod and chips, with some mushy peas on the side. All 3 were good, none were amazing. The chips were the best bit, and although chips need to be good at a fish and chip shop… I think the fish is the key, and that was not crispy enough for me. All in all, I’m glad I went, but I will be trying a good few other places before I return.

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had! Not great ambiance(don’t worry, that won’t change the taste of your food), it’s a dine-and-go kinda place with a constant flow of patrons. You can bring your own wine in and they will give you glasses! Tons of fish options for your main course and a surprising number of side options, including peas three different ways. Oh– and they have their own house tarter sauce, which is fabulous and light(unlike many other tarter«sauces»). Had the cod and fries(chips) with mashed peas. The fish was cooked to perfection and crispy, not a bit soggy. You won’t find a freezer bag in their kitchen because the freshness is evident in their food. Flavors are outstanding all around. Service was fantastic. We tipped extra because we were so happy.

Summary: GREAT fish n chips, good desserts, mediocre appetizers/starters. One of the better fish n chips in the area The Place: The restaurant is larger than you’d expect from the pictures. It has a large main dining area and a basement that serves as a private room for larger parties/events. The dining atmosphere looks nice and is decorated well, but is still a casual atmosphere. The atmosphere isn’t the main attraction here, but it is a nice place. The service was great, very attentive, quick, and friendly. The Food: Let’s start with the starters… they were somewhat small and we shared most of them to sample as many as possible. The calimari was stringy but tasty, and had a perfectly golden crusted fried coating. The fish cakes were somewhat mushy, but had a good flavor even though not visually stunning. The fried feta looked delicious, but the strong flavor of feta was a bit overwhelming inside the lightly fried crust. The main course, Haddock and chips, was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly cooked, and had a harder fried crust than many fish n chips I’ve had in the US. The fries were hit or miss, with an occasional soggy few. This is one of the better fish n chips I’ve had, and the portions were gigantic. Especially after having a starter, it’s difficult to finish the fish n chips here. The desserts were all incredible, we again ordered one of each to sample them all. The sponge cakes were delicious, most notably the chocolate sponge cake with ice cream. The bread pudding was soggy and not as flavor packed, but all of the other desserts were delicious. By far, the best one was the chocolate sponge. The Value: The fish and chips came out around 10 – 13 pounds, and desserts and starters were around 3 – 5 pounds. The main course is absolutely worth it, and you get large portions and a great value for such a delicious plate. The appetizers were not worth the price for their lower quality and smaller portion sizes. The desserts were all delicious, but somewhat pricey as well, so I’d suggest getting one or two for the table to share.

Heard this was a fish and chips haven so I made sure to check it out while I was in London. I had the cod with chips and mushy peas. It was a huge portion! The cod was flaky on the inside and crispy on the outside but a little too oily for my liking. The chips were thick and cooked well. The mushy peas were just mushy peas. Everything could have used a bit more salt. Nice and attentive staff. No WiFi.

Came here with my husband the other night after reading Unilocal reviews. We both ordered the standard fish(cod) and chips. It could be because we’re American, and possibly haven’t had proper fish and chips before, but we both absolutely loved it. The cod was excellent quality and had great texture(it tasted and looked fresh) and it was perfectly battered. The french fries(or chips) were also very good, they were a good amount of both crispy(on the outside) and soft(on the inside). Along with loving the taste of the food, I also loved the restaurant as a whole. It was one of the cheapest places to eat at in this area, and you get a good amount of food for the price you’re paying. I was also loving the atmosphere of the place. When we first walked in, we were greeted and seated by an older gentleman(possibly the owner or a manager). He was very pleasant and we made small talk when he took our order. My husband and I were watching everyone around us and lots of people seemed to know other people in the restaurant, so it seems like they get a ton of regulars. Anyway, we loved this place and if we were going to be in the area longer, we’d probably eat here again. I definitely recommend eating here.

I’m really no expert on fish and chips, but my experience was generally positive. I arrived here on a rainy August afternoon with the restaurant being half-full. The atmosphere was very laid-back. The staff were very friendly and helpful in explaining things to us as well as the two Japanese girls at the table next to us. As for the food itself, it was decent. The cod was tender on the inside with a crunchy exterior. The chips were similar. It was certainly better than what I’ve had in Canada. We each ordered a small and it was very filling, and the bill came up to around 25 pounds with two Cokes, not bad when compared to the high prices usually associated with eating out in central London. So overall: Food: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Atmosphere: 3.5÷5

Excellent place for a plate of fish and chips while you’re staying in London. I found this hidden gem tucked after reading Unilocal!reviews and decided to check it out. I was very impressed with the crispy fish and chips along with great tried the fried feta cheese, which was really salty, and I don’t think I’d give that another go as well as the mushy peas, which were okay. Overall, I’ll come back when I’m in town!

I fear fish-and-chips is in the category of steak: there’s only so good it can be. In its essence, there are very few variables, and while that limits the downside, that also limits the upside. Compare to a sandwich: there are trillions of combinations of all the inputs, so the final output can be quite varied, and you can be delighted or disappointed… dazzled or disgusted. Fish and chips, like steak, has few inputs. Once you’re at the level where you’re using good quality fish, fresh hot oil, and a consistent batter, then you’ve sort of hit your ceiling. The food here was quite good, to be sure, but because this is the best reviewed place, and all the Elites are saying ‘best i’ve ever had.’ one cannot help but be slightly disappointed at the fact that, at its essence, it’s still a deep fried whitefish. And even in it’s best form(which this might be), it lacks the complexity and flavor of a panko coated dijon salmon, or a sesame seared ahi. The chips were interesting: crisp on the outside; soft and dense on the inside. But again: lacking the seasoning of steak fries and the crispness of frites. Great, friendly, and efficient service.

Wow! Amazing haddock, and equally amazing mushy peas!!! Only reason it’s not 5 stars is that it’s the only Fish and Chips place I’ve tried in London but it’s definitely the best out of all I have tried in the states. No beer though – it’s byob. Go now.

Finally a fish n’ chips place that lives up to its hype. The haddock and cod are indistinguishable as usual, but the batter is nicely done. Skip the fries and mushy peas. These are mere distractions on your road to fried fish. Service is speedy considering how they don’t fry the fish until you order. Much cheaper to get your food for takeaway, but beware of how the parks in West London are gated and private(boooo), but Hyde Park isn’t all that far. We just gave up getting to the grass itself and ate it under the Marble Arch amidst pigeon poos.

My wife and I chose this restaurant after seeing it on one of those video blogs, touting it as a «must eat» restaurant for fish and chips. So off we went after a full day exploring London and a side trip to Abbey Road to have a picture taken crossing the iconic crosswalk from Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover. The place was a bit of a challenge to locate as TA wasn’t that accurate, but we managed to find the place. My wife and I had high expectations of this place. It was busy when we got there but we were seated promptly and shown the menu. After briefly consulting the server, we both opted for cod and shared an order of chips with some water. The fish served were in large portions… it had a nice crunchy outside and fresh and flaky inside… if not a bit on the oily side. We were expecting to be «wowed» but came away unimpressed. We both thought the fish lacked flavor… maybe because we’ve grown accustomed to American beer battered fish that is full of flavor… and this fell short of our expectations. Additionally, we felt service at this place seemed detached. We both felt the food was OK… but definitely not something to go out of your way for.

This is a easy cheap and cheerful BYO restaurant. The offering is simple: fish– fried or steamed, plus what ever sides you want. The servings are big and the fish is pretty delicious. It’s not the healthiest place and even though you can get a steamed piece of fish all of the sides are on the ‘comfort’ food side of things. There is a lot of deep fried. I’m pretty sure everything on the starters list is from the frier. But if that doesn’t bother you then get involved. It’s a little on the pricey side but being able to byo makes up for that. The mushy peas side was definitely my highlight and the tartare sauce is delicious. Lots of good wine bars and pubs to go to after in the area.

A satisfação é garantida — te prometo!
