The Gable

Came here for a drink and some food one lunchtime. They were closing for the afternoon for a function, but we weren’t rushed at all. Had steak, which was lovely. Will definitely be coming here again!!!

A pretty standard pub in the middle of the City. Does decent food, but they frequently offer 25% off the food bill and accept group bookings, so it’s been a stalwart local venue for team/​business lunches!
They have basement private rooms with a bar/​dance floor, so worth looking into if you’re looking for somewhere out of the way that is more private.
Otherwise, nothing particularly outstanding as it’s fairly busy all the time

I went for lunch with my boyfriend today. Having decided what we wanted before we arrived, we were able to be seated and order pretty quickly.
When I was ordering my drink, the waitress had no clue what I meant, even though I ordered it by the name it had on the menu.
My boyfriend wanted the ‘vintage lemonade’, which was the only drink with the name ‘lemonade’ on the menu. They instead brought him a Sprite.
The food came quickly and was fantastic, though the drinks were not chilled, with about 4 ice cubes in the glass.
When we wanted to pay, we knew there would be a 20% discount for lunch. They brought out the receipt with no discount. We had to ask for it, which we found was weird. Surely if you’ve got an offer on, you offer it to your guests; they shouldn’t have to take it upon themselves to remind you.
Overall, the food was great and we had a lovely time, but the service and staff were a little weird. It won’t be enough to stop me coming back if the circumstances arise.

Staff are soooooo hungover today, really quite a laugh, come down and make fun of them, our waitress just dropped the ketchup pot, twice.
Burger are as good as ever, but no scampi today. Chef forgot to order me thinks… LOL.
Love the Gable, real people staff and great food. What’s not to love!!!

I met in here with an old friend for a catch up. Not the best idea that I have had of late.
I met with her at 7pm, on a Wednesday night.
So, when I walked in and spotted my friend, she told me to take a seat and that the waiter would be over soon to take a drinks order. This never happened — it did for her when she ordered her drink whilst waiting for me, so it wasn’t like I was incorrectly assuming — so eventually after sitting there to the point of awkwardness, I got up and went to the bar.
The lady serving me I think was more there for decoration purposes than anything else. It was totally painful to see her make a cosmopolitan and I was really getting narked off with the amount of time it took, the chats that she had with the barman in between and the look of utter confusion on her face. Also, thanks for using your dirty fingers that you just handled change with and a dirty bar cloth, to squeeze the limes for the cocktail. Surely a quick rinse under a tap would not have killed her?
Finally I got the drinks and went back to my friend.
It was blinking noisy, like I had to nearly shout noisy, I kept having to repeat myself as did my friend as I couldn’t hear jack most of the time.
It did have an happy hour, which meant that there were very reasonable prices on the cocktails.
The toilets were not that nice at all, it seemed that they spent their budget upstairs and on the stairs and run out when they got to the loos. Rather grim.
Yes, there is an element of these places near Moorgate being busy after work kicks out and I am more than used to that.
However, don’t put muppets behind the bar, and have naahh toilets, and general all round annoying atmosphere.
I’m not going back unless it is imposed upon me.

Nice place for after work drinks. Happy hour is awesome here, I attended a surprise birthday and had a nice big area booked in the cellar. The music was really good, better than the cocktails by far! Danced the night away, and glad the drink prices didn’t break my bank account! Great place for a Friday night. It is a suit bar but what do you expect, everywhere in the city is like that!

We were here to have lunch, a group of 10 celebrating a colleagues birthday
Service was a little slow but it was very busy, food good (I had the haddock) but nothing to write home about

Not gonna mention anything about this being a «suit bar» being that it is in the City. D’uh.
Second time here in two weeks: one leaving and one b’day party. The Gable has been refurbished since I used to come here back in the day. Downstairs is now a disco club type venue which I liked as the service is quicker than upstairs but it’s f**king loud! If you’re at the second part of your night (the part when everyone is battered and wants to bust out hideous moves on the dance floor) then this is where you wanna be.
Happy Hour is good, so this place is rammo between 5pm ntil 7pm and you’ll see it get more spacious after this.
One thing which I thought definitely needed more work is that the staff OMG seem miserable! I know bar work is hard and that serving drinks to arrogant looking people you may hate sucks but fun and playful looking bar staff make a huge difference to the atmosphere in a place like this. Happy staff would give this place an star.
In conclusion, come here for HH I guess before moving somewhere else.

2 stars for lunch food — expensive for rather boring food. Service was inattentive. Had ask for water and no one ever came by to refill glasses.
3 stars for happy hour — it’s a happening place for local business people. It was busy nearly every evening.
Good looking restaurant. Would return for happy hour but not for sit down food.

Agreed that this is a suit bar but being that its right next to all the big banks, what do you expect?
Me and a couple colleagues went for drinks here and had the emazing happy hour drinks and food here. This is half off EVERYTHING, including bottles of wine and champagne etc. We ordered two bottles of Piper Heisdeck and a meat and cheese platter and were super satisfied with everything. I mean where else can you get such an awesome happy hour from 5 — 8? Happy Hour=Happy Namita!
DJ was alright but on a weeknight you probably should limit to a normal decibel, not the crazy im goign to dance level. Anyway, Gable, this will not be our last meeting I know it!

It helps if you wear a suit to The Gable as it is useful for blending in with the clientele. This is a City Boy place located in the heart of the City.
At lunch it has the air of an upmarket pub with a pricey food menu and City folk having low key meetings with clients. At night the generous 50% off offer turns the venue into a loud bar/​nightclub complete with DJ. As it is free to get in The Gable is a good spot for a cheaper night out in the Square Mile.
The Cellar is located as the name would suggest at the bottom of the building, here it is much quieter more of a place to relax in the evenings without the carnage of The Gable upstairs.

Suits suits and more suits, chicks in suits. nothing but suits. If you’re into finance or a man who works in finance or insurance and are trying to get married then this might be your bar of choice.
Its a decent place with a maze of doors to get to the restrooms or the Loo as Brits say.
I don’t think I’ll be going again or go out of my way to go there but it was a decent place to visit and there’s an outdoor area for smoking in an alley, kinda cool.
The DJ was decent though he would do a little mixxy scratchy thing when mixing songs which leads me to think that he doesn’t know about timing and how to jive them together. But whatever, so I’m a stickler about my jams, I just expect a lot out of the mood maker.
over all. its an A-​ok Place. but nothing out of the ordinary or special.

A city-​boy type of place, appropriately located right in the city. There were definitely far more men here than women, not that I am complaining. The atmosphere is bustling and not unpleasant. There is table service available in certain seats, but curiously not others depending upon whether an area is classed as a seating area or not. The music is generally not too loud, which is a definite plus for me. Overall I would recommend this place, for a couple of pints and a quick bite after work, but not as a destination in its own right.
