The best Sunday roast I’ve had in London. Also really good pies. Wonderful little pub tucked just up the road from Wandsworth Park and the Thames. Cozy atmosphere, good selection of draught beers.

Such a great Sunday roast and atmosphere. My husband and I were both so impressed. Every piece of the meal was fresh and flavorful.

Lovely pub near Wandsworth Park. They call themselves a Bohemian Pub, which caused some discussion, about the term and why a pub would decided to be bohemian. They had added an outside area with two open fire pits. Kind of open. In the end we agreed that they are very much in line with a normal pub and just want to add a bit of flair. We went on a Sunday and i have to say the menu was short and to the point: roast or roast. they had beef, pork and vegetarian. All very tasty.

It’s a great secluded pub to get away from the noise! Quirky interior with one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in a long time!

I only heard about this place when I was temporarily living on Point Pleasant for a few months. Similar to the other reviews, this is definitely one of the best pubs and wish more of them were like this. It has such a quaint charm that you wouldn’t expect in London. They are so friendly! The bartender mentioned they have some really good ales which I haven’t heard of. I asked which one she would recommend and straight away she said I can have a tasting to decide. I went with the bitter ale and a small portion of the sausage and mash. The food was really good! I got a little food envy as this other guy ordered the lamb and he was sorta moaning when he took his first bite. I definitely want to be back to try some of the other things on the menu or for a sunday roast. I wish the pub was a little closer but will definitely try and swing by when I make my trips to Wandsworth park over the summer.

After a bit of searching for a nice, old, traditional pub in the area I found The Cat’s Back. I was hesitant to go there(by myself and not being from Wandsworth) but very glad I did. Everyone inside was extremely nice and welcoming. The man running the place was overly accommodating as we shared a few long conversations over great cask ales. Between him and the regulars I learned quite a bit about the establishment’s rich history. Even the origin behind the name. A visit in the area demands a stop in this pub.

Okay, I’ve been back to the Cat’s Back several times now and I’ve got to admit it: I was wrong. Because, as it turns out, the Cat’s Back is what pubs really should be and very few pubs in London actually are: a real hub of the community, which it’s keen to contribute to and uphold any chance it gets. Unlike 99.99% of pubs in London, the Cat’s Back organised street parties to mark the Royal Wedding and the yearly ‘Big Lunch’ — commendable enterprise given how rare such efforts are. It also has a weekly film club, hosts live and local music in its upstairs room, offers free wi-fi and has a very welcoming, down-to-earth atmosphere. It has other delights too, such as the quirky, cosy interior, decent food(including one of the better Sunday roasts I’ve had in London) and a rotating cast of ale and cider. But these features are really unexpected bonuses next to its true strength in building the local community. Definitely the pub to head to if you’re lucky enough to live in the area and want to get to know your neighbours.

Recommended this place by a local bloke living in Putney. Its a good old trot from the nearest tube station but me & me mate were impressed. We both enjoyed a very tasty burger & chips washed down with a good old pint of real ale. Bar lady was very friendly and even put a head on our pints(cos it’s better that way). A place that wreaks of character & history. In the few hours we spent relaxing, we crossed paths with an eclectic array of folk, ranging from thirsty student, foreign traveller, clocked off labourer, business exec, senior citizen to the northern binge drinker such as myself.

This is a charmingly unique pub. The internal decoration has that random look to it, which I am sure is probably planned that way. Whatever it creates a nice impression. I was very pleased to see a couple of ciders on tap. That made up for only having ale from Sambrooks available, not my favourite of brewers(their beers are ok, but nothing special in my experience) Had a chicken burger to eat, but wasn’t particularly impressed by it. A good local, particularly with the membership option, which amongst other things allows you to drink later on Friday and Saturday nights!

Ive wanted to go here for ages as it looks so odd from the front. Its quirky and amongst modern buildings. Ive driven past many times. They have a petrol pump out front and a couple of unmatching tables. We went for the Sunday roast and the barman moved his laptop and paperwork off the table for us to sit down. They only have a handful of tables downstairs. You do get the feeling of being an outsider. When my husband was at the bar I was taking a photo and an obvious regular customer commented he hates that. RUDE ! Well I put the camera away and told my kids they will have no memories of their childhood because of the mean old bastard. The roast was delicious. Pork, potato, carrots, cauliflour cheese, gravy, yorkshire pudding, apple sauce = 8 pounds The fish and chips with mushy peas = 7.50 pounds Great fresh food which you wouldnt expect from the décor. Its old and knick knacks everywhere, artwork on the walls from kids drawings to more experienced paintings. Clean is not what comes to mind when you first walk in, dirty furniture and dusty things. Like my house so I felt right at home. I didnt go up stairs but they have a sign and arrow pointing to the party room. The staff are very nice, the food is great, the regulars are a bit territorial and I still want to try out the party room.

Great little local, quirky and fun atmosphere. It’s the sort of place you wouldn’t feel out of place drinking on your own, if need be. Also they have held several street parties which have been great with jazz bands and DJs later. They hold an open session for musicians on Sunday upstairs which is also great fun. Overall great little place I’d whole heartedly recommend and my local! That was then .now, they have lobotomised the place returning to this pub after the takeover was like meeting an old friend whom had much of his brain removed. All the character and heart has been replaced by the robotic uniformity of any number of sad soulless establishments. A crying shame.

Big Dave got so drunk in here on a random midweek night that I had to work from home the next day. Seeing as I’m a self employed builder, I’ve now got a bodged extension without any planning permission. The council is surely going to f**k me for it, but it was well worth the night in this quality backstreet boozer that plays reggae and serves great beers. The cat is most definitely back. I have no idea what that’s supposed to mean but my god it sounds sexy.

Fantastic place! Sumptuous Sunday roast and cracking ales(lovely pint of Wandle last time I was there). The staff are very friendly and once the candles are lit the bohemian charms of this quirkily kitted out place start to feel really rather romantic. Slightly off the beaten track amongst the new-build blocks around it, this is the most wonderful oasis of pub to stumble upon, as I was so lucky to do.

Brilliant pub! Incredibly quirky, you really have to go along and experience the décor for yourself. You also get very friendly service, great drinks and the food is excellent. Im just annoyed that my sister has now moved from this area so i dont get to go anymore! Highly recommended, my favourite pub in London.

I have a real fondness for this quirky original pub, especially on Sundays. The roast lunches(as is all of the menu) are first rate and the atmosphere is super chilled. Great for kicking back and recuperating with the Sunday papers after a heavy night out. If you can’t find a table downstairs(a common issue as this place gets busy) there is a fabulously ornate dining area upstairs. I was lucky enough to call this my local at one point, but even if you don’t live in the area I highly recommend you check this place out.

This is one eccentric pub full of quirks and oddities. No, literally, full, floor to ceiling and beyond, it’s crammed with bizarre stuff from around the world. Even more bizarrely, it’s unusually named after a cat that disappeared and then returned. this oddball gem, named after the owner’s cat, which — the story goes — calmly strolled in through the door having been missing for a month. All manner of knick-knacks are scattered around inside, creating a uniquely cosy atmosphere: there’s an old Calypso fruit machine, at which one pull costs the princely sum of 1d(old currency), Barbie dolls in glass cases and golliwogs in wooden boxes. The dark red walls are covered in celebrity B&Ws and watercolours, with a pair of resident artists happily painting away the day in a corner. On our most recent visit, the outside seating for smokers was a barber’s chair — it could just as easily have been a Victorian dentist’s chair with head clamp, since the furniture changes in regular rotation. Built in 1865, this über-friendly local avoided becoming another flatpack new build only because of the owner’s determination to preserve it as a pub; the international clientele that packs in here, a good representation of the variety of modern London life, seem appropriately grateful. If you’re feeling in need of some decent entertainment, the live sessions vary from jazz to West African music. The beer, meanwhile, ranges from Sundancer and Queen Bee to Edelweiss.

Cool and lively pub and resturant. A truly hidden gem of a pub close to the Thames. Arty and friendly anything can happen with its fab vibe.

This is my local. Locals call it the best pub in London, and for good reason. It’s quirky, independent, and definitely a great place to party. I’ve eaten there too many times to count as well as hired the function room. It’s not haute cuisine. Simply honest British grub. I’ve heard a rumour the owner is selling out, so if you want to sample a truly independent pub with loads of charm, it’s best to try sooner rather than later.

This proper old boozer has a great atmosphere with quirky decorations including the petrol pump outside. Nothing will make you think of chain pubs and wine bars and a fun mix of people all come here to enjoy a pint or two. Downstairs can be really busy and hot especially after 23h on weekends when the door has to be kept shut to keep the neighbours happy. I have never eaten here but food is supposed to be really nice too, especially the Sunday lunch.
