Being pretty hirsute for a girl, I’m no stranger to the waxing salon. But despite knowing what I’ve let myself in for, I always walk through the doors with a little bit of dread. But not at strip. The least painful bikini wax I’ve ever had. I could hold a conversation while she did it! A point lost for the constant«up selling» from the beautician and sales pitch to ospend more as I walked through the door.

I went to the one in Soho, and after rave reviews was SO disappointed. NOt initially. Initially I was really happy that it was super quick & pain free and skipped happily to my afternoon ‘appointment’ — who am i kidding? ladies of leisure ‘lunch’ conisting of small amounts of food and copious amounts of alcohol(thanks Mr Hix, more on that later). Thing is, next day, in the glare of morning light, I noticed that my eyebrows were wonky, hadn’t even been half done(she only did the top?!?), ditto another ‘sensitive area’ which was still fairly bushy, but now weirdly sporadically and there were rogue hairs all over my limbs. Now, I know that having returned from Brazil I have been incredibly spoilt. And let me tell you it IS amazing, totally pain free, comfortabl, super quick and dirt dirt cheap. This was NOT cheap. Coming in at £110 for the full wax and throughout it, uncomfortably, being given the hard sell… which, worn down, pushed me to part with £140. I’m not big funn, but for that sort of price I don’t want to be pending the next day tweezing my own legs, nor do I want to be worrying about phoning them to redo ‘other bits’ and nor do i want to walk away with a bottle of ‘tan extender’ that, I’m informed doesn’t have any tanning lotion in it, but dries out my skin and makes it smell like a cheap knock-off fake tan. Really disappointed. The hunt for a good salon is still on. so if you have any tips PLEASE let me know.

Strip use Australian Lycon wax which is relatively painfree(as waxing goes!). The staff are really friendly. The salon is kitted out like a boudoir with a tv in each room to take your mind away and lingerie shop upstairs. There is a catch though — it is pricey. It is just about worth it though.

Hands down one of the best places I’ve ever gotten a wax. It may not be as high-end as other places in London, but that has no bearing on the quality of the service or the experience. I went there to get a brazilian, and I must admit that I’ve never had an experience as painless. I recommend the lavendar wax; it smells nice and it’s pain-free.

When it come to beauty regimes I try to steer away from the ‘no pain no gain’ school of thought. I realise waxing might be more permanent than shaving but from past experience of waxing I’ve chosen to stick by my Gillette Venus razor. When my friend told me about a waxing salon near me that was really good I was not interested. When she told that the waxing at Strip was not ‘that painful’ I began to listen especially as I had suffered a shaving cut earlier that morning. I am shocked to say that my friend was right– the waxing treatment at Strip is a lot less painful than other places and therefore a lot more bearable for someone like me. The chocolate hazelnut wax is a good distraction beacuse it smells so good. The flat screen TVs downstairs area also a nice touch.
