Stenton Family Butcher

We have recently moved to the area and went to buy some meat from Stenton Family Butcher. My husband bought pork shoulder, pork and apple sausages and John gave him some complimentary chipolatas and a recipe to roast the pork shoulder. I can honestly say that it’s been a long time since we have tasted meat so delicious. The pulled pork recipe was divine. The sausages are unlike other sausages purchased from Marks and Spencer or Waitrose, they have hardly any oil and it doesn’t smell our home when we cook them. John can tell you exactly which farm it is from and enjoys chatting to his customers, like traditional style butchers. We are thrilled to have a lovely local butcher nearby who supplies quality food.

Very unhappy with them, I have bought 640g of suet, when i have ordered it they have said that it will be very cheap however when i went to pick it up they have charged me £5 for it. I have just found out that other butchers, such as the one Holland Park Avenue gives it for free. I think that says it all

This is a fantastic butchers in Hammersmith. The service is amazing — if you ask for a chicken they’ll offer to skin it or cut it into portions, whatever you need and it’s never any trouble. The quality of the meat is consistantly fantastic, and although it’s more expensive than lots of the stuff you can buy in supermarkets, they know where it’s all come from and it really is worth the price — they make the mince to order from good cuts of meat so it’s much less fatty than it often is. They can always give advice on how to cook something or how much you might need if you’re not sure. As well as meat they also sell eggs, chutneys and sauces and very good black pudding.

When I were a lad, butchers like Mr Stenton were not uncommon. Men who cared about what they sold you and would give advice on how to cook what they sold. The proliferation of supermarkets selling meats has swept most of them away, but that’s all the more reason to cherish a gem like Stentons. Don’t just buy ‘Chicken Breasts’ — buy the bird, roast it, make some soup. Try the sausages. Big fat fellas for the adults, and skinny chippas for the children. I’ve bought my Christmas Turkey from here for the past 15 years. Superb. Bottom line is, he cares, he knows what he is doing, and his meat is very very good.

This has been a traditional butcher in Hammersmith for the last 40 years. It is worth shopping here for meat because they have a huge range of cuts of mmeat. Other than the usual varieties theyre is also game, Orkeney Pates and Rannoch Smokery Products.
