Took our 3 month old daughter here for her first swim yesterday. It is reasonably priced with friendly staff. We went to the small teaching pool and used the family changing rooms. The changing area was spacious with nappy changing facilities and lockers very close by. We were allowed to take the pram poolside which was really good. The pool was nice and warm– the baby lasted 25min in the water and was quite happy. Have given it a 3 instead of higher rating as it is quite a dated pool and it was quite dirty, especially given that it was only 10am. We didn’t see the main pool so can’t comment on that either. I will probably go here again and would recommend to parents to take babies– facilities are so convenient that it is doable with one parent and baby, rather than needing both parents there.

I signed up for a membership at St. George’s Pools in that spate of New Years Resolutions, and while I’m not going as frequently as I would have liked, I’m still at it. After all, there are several cool things that make my membership well worth the money. 1. The money. For just £23 a month(student discount woot!) I can go to the gym during off peak hours as frequently as I like. In this city, that’s pocket change, and I know people paying four times that. 2. Location. Right on The Highway, this is super convenient to me, which is helpful when it’s grey and rainy and I don’t want to carry my gym stuff around all day. Actually, it’s less than three minutes from my front door. 3. The pool. While it’s nothing fancy, and a weird distance(331⁄3 meters), it’s a big enough pool to hold lots of people working out and still be comfortable. I do wish they’d use the proper lane lines in the morning, but I can’t have everything I want. 4. The gym. While it’s a small, long floor plan, the gym has all of the basics. The machines are in well working order and the treadmills(though they run only in kilometers) give a nice look out toward the pool. I wish there were freeweights, but they do have plyo and physioballs, as well as the most important machine in my routine(the incline situp bench). All in all, I really like St. George’s. It covers all the basics, it’s convenient and it’s cheap. The facility isn’t sparkling clean, but it’s definitely hygienic and well maintained. It’s a great neighborhood gym.

Another city pool although this one could use the same funding York Hall had — I imagine at one time this was quite spectacular as a pool — the diving boards are all off limits now and taped up and looking pretty sad — this 70, s building could be amazing –there are minimal shaped balconys wrapping around the pool looking out onto the church grounds now off limits and growing moss! Fantastic windows — this pool is also used alot. There are numerous scuba diving classes but a separate kids pool for classes. Also for the child friendly aspect there are«family» dressing rooms very handy for the mom with many children of different sexes issue. The busiest time here is lunch time and mornings where there seems to be a bigger number of very fast very serious swimming men –possiby from the city ?? Unlike York Hall there is no luxury spa downstairs — this place is really not in good shape and is quite bare bones A lovely pool just the same if a little shabby.

This is my regular swimming pool. There’s a gym as part of the complex too, but I’m only qualified to speak about the pool. It’s clean, supervised and never too busy. It’s perfect for lane swimmers of all levels. As far as I know too, there’s classes and various clubs/teams. I haven’t availed of any of these… but the pool does the job for me fine as a committed lane swimmer. The membership is pretty reasonable — and flexible — you can stay a member for as long as you want and just give one month’s notice. Also, there’s a promotion on there at the moment, where you don’t have to pay the joining fee.
