We went here on a free food walking tour of East London. The pies are really tasty(i don’t usally like pies) and it’s great that they have smaller pie options, perfect for the food tour.

Strangely I didn’t have a pie at Square Pie, I got the mac and cheese! It was very tasty with big(almost lasagne) noodles instead of macaroni and a nice creamy cheese base. The top was nicely toasted, with the cheese forming an intensely-flavoured thin crust. It was a good little snack, and I got a Camden Hell lager to go with it. There was tabasco sauce on the table and it went well with the mac and cheese. I hope to come back sometime so I can try the actual pies.

I visited here twice in as many weeks on visits to Spitalfields Markets and was very pleasantly surprised. The range of options on the menu was very good and the food I had was delicious — one day I had the macaroni cheese pie with salad and another I had the goat’s cheese, butternut squash and spinach pie with mash and coleslaw. The staff were really polite, friendly and efficient and couldn’t do enough to help you. Recommend especially if you want a break from the Market or if you are nearby and want a break from the rain!

A visit to Square Pie completed our visit to London. The pies were delicious, flavorful and had incredible flakey crusts. A variety of pies to accommodate everyone in your party. The service was friendly, prompt and polite.

Fantastic! The lamb and rosemary pie we wanted was in the oven when we stopped by and the manager took time to chat with us, letting us know when it would be ready and taking our order so she could box up our dinner as soon as it was out of the oven. She also went through the drinks cooler with me trying to find something not too sugary. The whole meal was great. The mash and gravy were tasty, the garden peas were fresh and the pie filled the room with the aroma of rosemary once we cracked the crust open. We will definitely be back.

Darn good pie at affordable prices, even if you are American have paying out the nose due to the crappy exchange rate. This is a great way to introduce people to pies, mash potatoes and mushy peas because the who environment is friendly, seats to people watch and checkout the hustle and bustle that is Spitalfields Market. My fave is the steak and guinness, double mash, mushy peas, gravy and a can of ginger beer hits the spot. Good for a quick lunch on a rainy/foggy/typical day when you don’t feel like waiting for someone to cook your lunch.

After a long delayed 6 hour flight to London, these weary Yanks wanted to drop in on Spitalfields on its busy Sunday, and grab a quick bite to eat that was distinctly British in some way. Square Pie hit the spot. The steak & cheese pie was piping hot, filling, satisfying, savory, and delightfully served with a dollop of gravy and some mushy peas on the side. The bench seating inside the shop was fine, and there were some nice tables out on the market, but it was quite chilly and we opted to stay in. I wish we had places like this here in the States — traditional fast food.

Square Pie’s name is pretty damn accurate. It’s a pie shop and it’s pretty damn square(that’s 1960’s slang for being a bit old fashioned.) That’s not always a bad thing mind you — old fashioned pies are classic. And my chicken and mushroom pie was tasty. Not the best pie in the whole world, mind you, but not the worst either. And it was cheap and fast and a good spot to hold a lunch meeting. Their small café in Spitalfields is nice. There’s seating inside the small shop but they’ve also got a patio outside(that’s in the market so not really outside) for eating and people watching. Overall, a good place for a good pie.

Underwhelmed. Tried the Xmas Pie which was nice, but not £8 nice. I’ve had much better pies elsewhere for the money. Evidently a novelty shop that values their name more than their quality.

This is the best pie I have ever ate in my entire life. I swear!!! I was here for my honeymoon for a week and I kid you not, I was here almost everyday it was open. It’s in a cute little market place. Yes it was a little far from the hotel but so worth it. If your ever in London Please try one of the Square Pie and Unilocal about it. I so can’t wait to visit London again.

soooooo filling. the shape of their pies doesn’t matter to me b/c by the time I was finished with my meal I was so round they had to roll me out of there. i just had the tomato and basil soup, but the mash looked so good, and was only around £1.30 that I had to have some, and the gravy was veggie so I couldn’t say no. it was a good decision, but by the end of the meal I couldn’t walk. my pants were way too tight. My friend jared got a pie and some mash, and he said he was so full from just the pie. he didn’t even touch his mash. So if you get the pie and mash, I would suggest you have 2 people there to eat it.

I quite like the pies from Square Pie, the lamb and rosemary is one of my personal faves. Good food for a cold lunchtime. The pies are a little pricey, I guess you are paying for the better ingredients and not so production line quality.

Square Pie R is an awesome play on Pi & they make an awesome P — I — E Order your tasty pie & mashed potatoes, peas or mushy peas & you’ve got a huge meal that’ll more than satisfy Friends got the Steak & Kidney Pie & I opted for the Mushroom & Asparagus Saw the Steak w/hunks of carrots & potatoes & friend declared it yummy Mine was awesome — light flaky crust w/lots of shrooms & asparagus in a bechamel sauce Service was super-quick & boy were those pies hot… h. o. t. General consensus? Loved it & would come again. What is the diameter of a circle, i.e., pie? Why it’s Pi R squared… but if you have a Square Pie R — you’ve got one tasty pie!

I don’t really get this place. Like, are they using the definition of square that means boring? If so, it’s pretty appropriate. I’ve gone here twice and both times was underwhelmed. I thought the pies were nice but very bland, and ended up dousing them in HP just to get some bang of flavor off of them. Also thought the mash and peas were boring. Overall the food is okay, but not very interesting, and a little too expensive for what it is. There are better pies in town, try the Pie Minister.

To be able to get a good English style pie you must know where to go. Square Pie is one of the best paces to get one. They use fresh seasonal ingredients and have a policy of only serving good wholesome food. The pies have the most delicious crispy yet soft dough and the fillings are made with a mothers love. I tend to order the rather unorthodox spinach and feta, even tough I’m not a vegetarian, the combination of the ingredients with the lovely pastry make it a heavenly experience for the palate. I also love to order a side of mushy peas and mash with gravy. After this meal you might feel the need for a nap, so be mindful.

When I spent my few years abroad, I can tell you right now that the British staple I missed more than anything else was pie. I have no idea what it is, but this is comfort food at it’s finest. It’s a shame, I thought to myself, that poor pie has had such a bad name in the past. Soggy dough, cheap fillings, little imagination. Enter Martin Dewey, who started Square Pie in November 2001 with the hope of reforming pie standards. And that he has very much achieved. There are now various outposts of the Square Pie chain, but my first encounter was in Spitalfields market. I was tired, I was cold, I was in need of pie. I had a classic steak and Guinness pie with a side of mash and peas, and let me tell you, I’ve never felt so satisfied and comforted in my life. It may be a little more expensive than your local chip shop rubber but totally worth the indulgence. I’m going to go back next week to try out the monthly special, full turkey roast: turkey, chipolatas, roast potatoes, sprouts, bacon, cranberries and gravy. mmmmmmm…

Pie, glorious pie. Hot gravy and pea-ees! That is how one might feel after one of Square Pie’s delicious meals in a box. I’ve eaten in various outlets of theirs, mostly in Selfridges where they have tall red stools that face the window, so you can have your pie, eat it and watch busy shoppers bustle by. There’s also a bus stop just outside, so you can catch a lot of transient scenes in people’s lives. You literally queue up, canteen style, pick your pie, I tend to go for Lamb and Rosemary or Jerk Chicken, add mash, and gravy and you can have mushy peas or normal garden peas. Plus they have lots of condiments on the tables to give your meal extra pep. Your meal gets passed along like a serving tray with people dolloping what you want in, and when finished you simply chuck the box in the bin. Easy peasy food, fast and efficient.

I tend to like things that come in a box and I am also quite partial to a good British Pie once in a while. The Square Pie Company incorporates both of these. This Pie chain has been getting bigger and more known. It makes all the classic British pies and has a couple of inventions of its own. Served with Mash, peas, and gravy this is a very filling meal to be devoured when famished. The box makes it easy to takeaway, otherwise you can always sit in the seating area within the refurbished Spitalfields market.
