I found this dry cleaner through an article in the Evening Standard listing the top dry cleaners in London. Now, dry cleaning’s a bit of an iffy issue and, for me, it’s hard to tell if someone has done a good job unless they’ve really mucked it up — such as my previous dry cleaner whose repairs didn’t stick for even one wear. But, that’s not dry cleaning, that’s alterations, so already I’ve shown my general lack of knowledge in this area. The one thing I can say is that there are no dry cleaning machines on-site. Anyway, I’ve used this dry cleaner three times so far. It’s clear that he has regular clientele as, the first time u walked in, a few of them were engaged in conversation. I had brought some of my work clothes and wedding finery to be dry cleaned. He took one look at my gown and said he couldn’t clean it because of the lack of washing instructions(it had been tailored overseas) and that the dry cleaning would melt the beads off. He suggested I try washing it myself as that would be safer. On a pair of trousers I wanted altered, he told me to go to a nearby tailor as that guy would do my alterations for cheaper than he would. He took the rest of my clothes though, so it wasn’t a completely wasted trip! Anyway, I appreciated that he was concerned over the well-being of my dress and wallet, although he did speak to me very brusquely the first time. He’s gotten sightly friendlier since then. Prices are reasonable — a tenner for a two-piece suit, a fiver for a pair of trousers, £2.50 for a shirt — and the turnaround offered is three days.
