Compared to other Soho Gyms locations I prefer the Waterloo establishment without hesitation. It has a much more open feel to the layout and rarely gets anywhere near as crowded as its counterparts. Club members in attendance are considerate and non-gawky, nor muscle-heads, nigh roid-ragers(This tidbit is only significant if you’re accustomed to waiting in queue while groups of friends monopolize equipment and/or space). The staff is generally friendly from what I’ve experienced, and they have always a plethora of supplements stocked for those that partake in various forms, be it bars, shakes, or what have you. It should not go unsaid that SGW scores above average on the cleanliness scale, which is important for not only making me feel good about getting sweaty on the ground, but also with regard to overall health. I’ve had the misfortune of attending all too many gyms where I’ve noticed that they seem to ignore a frequent sweep and it just feels like you’re kicking around dust and dead skin cells waiting to get sick. Not the case here… SGW also seems to boast many classes, which I’ve yet to attend, but the lineup seems consistent with current trends so that’s always a welcomed sign. I’ll be sure to update once I’ve hit a couple, but as they say«so far, so good»!

When I found out that my work had a free membership to this gym I was PUMPED… literally. Honestly, I never would have found the gym had someone not shown it to me; it’s kind of under a bridge and then down an empty street. But once I found the place I was more than pleased. One of my favorite things in London is when a place has been built around/under the archway of an old bridge or subway line. This place is definitely one of those. The brick walls keep this otherwise industrial gym chain romantic, and remind you that you are in London. You are still running in place on a treadmill, but you are doing it in London! They have a LOT of machines and they ALL work, and the gym is organized into sections by what area’s the equipment targets. They have a gigantic room full of cardio set up to 3 tv’s(one of them is unfortunately permanently set on MTV). There are classes for members, but I haven’t taken any yet. Also there is a suana in the CLEAN locker rooms, and just like my «behind quarters» are GOING to be, the showers are kept in pretty good shape too.
