This CityGym is literally right underneath my work so my sole reason fro going here is the convenience factor. Because I am in ‘logic’ mode: Cons: It’s quite small because of the location and not that expensive so obviously this has to be the obvious trade-off. This isnt too big a deal, but around peak times ie lunch, and 6pm on a Monday, it can be absolutely rammo. Decent amount of running/cycling/rowing machines, but perhaps another bench or more free weights would be quite useful. Shower area could do with a clean if Im being frank as although I do often see someone with a mop in there, on most occasions, they smell a bit funky! My main bone of contention is that its shut at weekends. For me, this is particularly unfortunate as I live not too far away and would glad come at the weekends and it’d probably be much quieter too. Apparently this used to happen, but I guess there wasnt enough interest? Pros: Location is the best thing about SJs. The price decent for the location, and the staff arereally friendly too(although there seem to be 10 personal trainers, whom half spend the time applying pressure to Clients’ legs while they lie on the PowerPlate and the other half teaching/overseeing bad workout form). My membership is over next month, so I’ll probably renew it.

Ouchy. I can’t move. Boxercise yesterday killed me. I have recently returned from NY after three months to find I now have a new instructor, a new class format and the strength of a kitten. Aside from the torture I have endured, this gym is sound. It’s a bit of a city ‘man’ gym which is good for me as the ladies locker rooms are not too crazy and the classes aren’t rammed. There are a few squash courts, nap rooms, more new power plates machines and they even have table tennis nights on Wednesdays. For a city gym it is relatively no frills, not crazy expensive(they have special rates for local businesses) and for an extra fiver a month you can make use of it’s sister gyms… which is ace as MarketSports has a pool. I will leave to fancy gyms to the New Yorkers.

A great boutique style gym/health club. Slim Jims has all the gym machines you need: powerplate machines and a huge selection of weight machines as well as the usual running, rowing, crosstrainers and free weights etc. The gym also has a squash court, sauna, sunbeds, massage therapist and acupuncturist. The classes(body pump, abs, pilates, etc) are lal included in your membership and I recommend the spin classes(held in a small dark studio to pumping dance music) for seriously hard workout! The gym also has a relaxation room with sofas and fish, plush free coffee/tea machines in the recepiton area.
