I ducked into Skip Garden for lunch, and despite it’s environs of gleaming new-builds, the place has a wonderfully home-made pop-up vibe. I opted for a trio of sandwiches and I was very impressed. The presentation was immaculate and it was clear that real care had been put into assembling the dish. the houmous sandwich has watercress delicately arranged on top. The tomatoes were carefully seasoned with sea salt and pepper, while the pear and stilton was just delicious. All in all a beautiful little lunch. Highly recommended.

The skip garden café is an odd place. It moves around as the fast — paced development continues so the address in Unilocal may not be current. The dining area was more like a building site on my visit but there was room to be seared to eat my scone and drink tea. Disposable cups are not what you would expect for the expensive price, but that is what they use. Mugs would be more eco-friendly. Food and drink good and this is a place with a concience serving Fair Trade tea, growing things in the skips, etc. A fun place but should be cheaper for the standards on offer.

I took a group of rainbows to visit the Skip Garden last week, and they loved it! It is like a mini oasis amidst the building madness North of Kings Cross. — They have a pool! It was set up as an art installation, and uses pants to filter the water. You have to book online to swim there. — There is a viewing platform where you can look down over Kings Cross and all the new buildings — They have chickens(the rainbows loved them!) — They grow sooo many herbs, fruits and plants in skips! It is an ingenious use of space. — At the moment several artists are building things around the back — I guess it’ll get more interesting as they finish them. — There is a café selling snacks using the ingredients that they grow. — They get local children involved in growing things outside the new build flats on York Way. * You can see a sign for the old Skip garden on York Way… but the actual garden has moved slightly further around. ** The rainbows(aged 5 – 7) LOVED this place, so I think it would be good to take other children. They are not normally open after 6pm, but you can visit at the weekend.

A brilliant pop up, temporary garden that seems to be happily here to stay. Right behind King’s Cross Station, this marvellous, ingenious use of urban space to grow is such fun to visit — it defies all Qype categories! Pssst! there’s also the Hoop Garden nearby in Yorkway
