This lovely«kanteen» has just opened underground right next to Roka, just find the stairs and wander down… The lovely Katie B found some timeout vouchers, so we tried EVERYTHING at lunchtime for just £10 during their soft launch. Space: It looks gorgeous, has comfy chairs and super friendly staff. Food: The food is Japanese fusion with lots of izakaya-like dishes along with ramen. — The ice teas are sooo so good. I would come back for the peach an jasmine tea on its own! — The tako balls were gooogeous. They’re like croquettes with a bit of octopus in the centre, but served like takoyaki, with katsuoboshi and nori sprinkles. We loooved them. — The salads were good — The tori katsu was alright but not that interesting or impressive. — The ramen was a bit of a letdown, especially as this is meant to be their signature dish. The soups weren’t terrible(Tokyo ramen’s broth was light and nice, but not so nice that I wanted o drink to the bottom of the bowl…) But the noodles were really squishy. I didn’t finish my noodles, and that is almost unheard of! — I quite liked the buns, but I’ve had better elsewhere in London. So all in all it is A-OK. I do want to come back for more tea and tako balls… and I think it’d be a brilliant place for a date. Hopefully the other food will get even better once they find their feet.
