We popped in for dinner on a damp and dreary evening. There was a football match on TV and we were the only non-Ethiopian/Eritreans in the place but everyone was really friendly and the owner made us feel really welcome. We asked the owner to suggest something for dinner and he brought us a massive plate lined with injera and two large portions of lamb stew. One was spicy and one was plainer. Both were super tasty, partially due to the fact that there were pieces of bone in the stew. The owner even taught us how to eat with our hands. The restaurant is small and set up like a deli with a chilled case that they keep all their prepared food. We had a really pleasant meal, largely due to the friendliness of the owner who was clearly proud of his Eritrean heritage. Definitely a place to check out!

Deadly(in the positive, Dublin sense ;)) eatery and coffee shop. Oohhh. the coffee — so yum! A great local café/restaurant with a really nice buzz, they’ve lots of regular customers and deservedly so! This was my second time trying Eritrean food and it was every bit as yummy as Adulis(if not more!) and much more reasonably priced. Granted, it’s a basic café and not a cosy restaurant which might not suit all dining occasions but I love the down-to-earthness of the place. The owners/staff are really friendly as well. Definitely set to become one of my regular Brixton spots! c*

No nonsense fabulous Etritrean food. Similar to Ethiopian, in that there’s in jnjera bread and gloppy wholesome deliciousness — also super friendly for vegetarians with a flavourful pulse-based meal that will fill you right up for days. Eritrean restos in my outside-of-London experience are posh. Or posh-ish. Event dinners. This is a place where expats sit and drink endless cups of tea and chat about politics, philosophy, jobs, or whatever. They’ve lovely cheap food, nice coffee, and a laid back atmosphere. Terrible service. Like nonexistent. But that’s OK. Things move slowly here. Get over it. Better yet, stay away.

Hold the press! It is officially official! I have today falling for a short, sweet, dark and handsome beauty(first time for everything!) Forget Italian, Brazilian, Costa Rican, Colombian and dare I say Kenyan and Ethiopian. Follow me and the warming aroma to the north east of Africa, to Eritrea! A tastes so rich and so pleasing to the palette. The beans roasted so perfectly there is not a single note of bitterness present. Served warm not hot so each earth nectar tone detectable even the untrained tastebuds. Amazing how a single experience can be so exhilarating. PS. The lady who owns the café roasts the beans on site and she is super hot!
