Salumeria opened its doors exactly a week ago. I had a quick peek on day one and have been waiting for an excuse to come back ever since. Stopped by for a coffee(excellent if a bit dear at £2.30 for a small cup) this morning and am sure to return soon. This end of Portobello Road felt very neglected until a few years ago and is slowly turning into a bit of a foodie magnet. Bluebelles Café next door and Lowry & Baker across the road. There’s also an increasing number of farmers/organic food stalls appearing at weekends. Salumeria makes perfect sense as they are more a delicatessen in the vein of Mr Christian’s on Elgin than just another yummy café. They are offering a very unusual selection of cheeses from Italy and Britain — some are made in London. Definitely not your everyday cheese on toast variety but perfect for a special occasion. The meat counter is even better stocked and you can order fresh cuts for the weekend.
