Entirely decadent and brilliant fun. An intersection of truffle and meat, Sackville’s pulls off something indulgent without ever being gimmicky. You’ll remember the food for years to come — particularly if you try the Sackville burger — foie gras buttered brioche buns, Wagyu beef and truffle mayo. The underground bar is worth spending a serious amount of time in — not just killing time before your meal. Cocktails are fresh, and not the standard list found in the majority of London bars. The most important part was the staff — while the place may look like a faintly intimidating Mad Men set, the welcome is wonderfully warm. You’ll feel more like stepping into an old favourite Italian restaurant instead of Mayfair, and you’ll leave feeling charmed, full and unbelievably happy.

Rating & review based solely on the cocktails in the downstairs bar with a voucher(4 for £16) rather than the normal £13 a pop! A friend and I arrived early on a Tuesday(6.30pm) so of course it was empty! It is a small bar with 4 bar stools and then 4 small tables so wouldn’t take many to fill. The waiter was very friendly and helped us out with our drink choices. All cocktails were delicious — recommend the Velvet Underground. As no one was around he also let us try some of the spirits that we hadn’t heard of. Towards our second drink it started to get busier and most of the tables were full. Of course it took longer to get a cocktail which was fine although the barman still apologised. A nice buzz in an intimate bar with table service to boot. I’m afraid I wouldn’t go back without some sort of deal on the drinks(or if someone else was paying) but recommend for a special night out or for pay day!

Newly opened Sackvilles in Mayfair is the place to try if you like dining on mediocre food in a very noisy setting. The music was so loud like a club that it was difficult to hear dining companions even when they were shouting across the table! The restaurant specialises in steak and truffles, an enticing combination which lead us to choose to dine at Sackvilles on this occasion. Of the 3 mains we ordered the baked poussin ‘with truffle seasoning & foie gras butter’ was memorable for being dry and lacking in any taste of truffle. I would have rated Sackvilles 2 out of 5 had the service towards the end of the evening not been so appalling. After waiting over 30 minutes for an incorrect bill to be recalculated, we politely notified the manager that we were in a hurry as a friend needed to catch a train — it was almost 11.30pm on a weekday. The reaction of the manager was unbelievably rude, his response was ‘I would have done it by now!’ meaning had we not asked him a simple question on how much longer would they be he would have finished calculating the bill for the next table! When a waiter finally recalculated our bill he automatically did not add on service charge, which is just as well as this saved me the trouble of deducting the service charge as I will not pay for shambolic ‘service’ and being insulted by management. Based on the standard of food and service we experienced on our visit I predict that Sackvilles will be replaced by yet another new restaurant in the very near future.

Sometimes I think maybe this address is cursed. I remember the rancho, the Argentinian steak restaurant predecessor. How quick its demise! Without further ado, let’s list the good things and bad things about this new haunt. Good Unfortunately not a lot. The truffle and meat combination outside of the Italian food setting is nice. The employees are french or speaking French. Some of them are quite good at entertaining clients but to be honest there are a few who are terrible at their jobs, getting orders wrong, leaving out sauces, disappearing with the bill and losing it. Ah sorry, I’m slightly ahead of myself, was talking about the good things. Food wise, do not order the chicken I. e pousson. I thought it was dry and I couldn’t taste the truffle. Rump wagyu steak was not bad with the truffle mayo. I really liked the truffle mash even more than the truffle fries. We had the George’s black burger. This was quite nice, medium rare is the way to go. Nothing that would scream to me that I have to come back and soon though. The bad Ooh dear where to start? Waiters need more training. We waited a long time for food, and for the bill, and even payment. There was a birthday party behind us and one waiter snatched the card payment machine out of my waiters hand before I could pay. Wow. So rude! This was even after we told them that we had to leave as our friend had a train to catch. Their payment system broke down and they were stressed as they had no idea what guests ordered and had to ask us to list out our order. The music was way too loud and you won’t be able to hear your companions unless you shout across the table. Honestly this review is making me very depressed. Maybe you could come and try this place once they have settled down for the food, but mind you it’s average food. The price is not particularly cheap either.
