Rush Hour by George Segal

A statue of a group of bored looking people. Which is pretty much the mood it transferred to me. Really, I get quite enough of people standing/​walking in uncomfortably close proximity during the real rush hour. I don’t need a little clump of that atmosphere hanging around.
If they’d plonked this in the middle of nowhere then it might have made a nice ironic point. I admit I had a good look around it to see if there was some hidden extra. One of the group sneakily pick pocketing another maybe? I really wanted there to be a joke. There isn’t one.
Now I’ve done some research. Apparently he’s a leading US artist, deceased, who made his pieces by casting full-​body moulds from real people. Other pieces include The Truck (1966), The Laundromat (1966 – 67), and Hot Dog Stand (1978). Hmmm, at least if you are just looking at his work you can walk away
