Just had a terrible fish and chips for £9. Had to ask twice for cutlery and then wait 5 mins(monday evening not even busy). The fish was inedible. Tasted like it came from iceland and was on the raw side of cooked. Oven fries? Very dissappointed.

This place has potential to good. It’s located near the park, has food & drinks, & out door space. But the staff, every single one of them, are so unfriendly and miserable. I thought at first we just had a bad seed, or two. But after a few beers, a few bar tenders, they’re all miserable. Not sure if this is a reflection on the work environment? Why wouldn’t they be happy that we’re spending time, energy, and money at their establishment ?? Also, we were the 5th person to get our cell phones stolen from this establishment. Unsure what happened, but one couple had there’s stolen from behind the bar??? When I asked the bar tender if someone turned in a phone he said ‘NO. But you’re the 5th person that’s had this happen today’

Pub by victoria park, nice vibe and amazing with good weather. They have a large conservatorie and a great beer garden. Prices a bit above the average. Overall a good place for a pint and food.

The stand out feature, as in other reviews, is the miserable and award winningly poor service from staff who would rather be anywhere else.

This pub has a perfect location. Once you’ve walked around the park for ages, nothing like a pint is a better proposition. I love the old interior, although with the restaurant extension, it feels a little old and under utilised. It’s got great food though and amazing beers! Head down for a nice time with friends in the sun :)

Great location, shame about the rest. Bar: Found the bar staff to be inept, hungover and disengaged from serving. Food: Roast dinner(lamb) served room temperature = not on. Salmon main was ok, nothing special except for he quinoa salad which was different from the norm and flavorful. No condiments available or on offer, had to wait about to just get some pepper. Wouldn’t come back for food, would come back for drinks… if I could get served within 10 minutes. Post review note: salmon didn’t sit well in my stomach for the next few hours. Not sure if it was the fish or the dressing but it wasn’t nice and definitely wasn’t worth £15.

I love to have a pint of Doombar here after a walk with the dog around the park. They’re lovely and will always offer the dog a bowl of cool fleshing water and on less busy days don’t mind me bringing him inside while I order. It can get rather busy on the weekends during the summer so beware. There’s seating outside and I generally sit there and watch everyone go about their day in this lively and picturesque area. I haven’t had food here before so can’t comment. It gets one point taken off for being a little pricey and for having quite a dated interior but they serve their ale in dimpled jugs so I guess that’s a sign they’re moving in the right direction… (It’s a little over £4 for a pint… ouch.)

On a sunny day, you can’t go wrong with a pub that has great beer and a great(south-facing) beer garden. Add being-right-on-Victoria-Park to the mix, and it’s pretty much perfection. £4 for a pint, though. Eh.

A large pub situated on the edge of Victoria Park. I popped in here for a few drinks with pals and to catch some Olympics action. The building itself is beautiful and the interior is very traditional, a lot of oak and brass which makes for a warm ambience. There was a good selection of drinks, the bar staff were very helpful and outside there was an enormous beer garden overlooking the park. There was a large screen showing the Olympics with a handy shade cover over the top to stop the sun bouncing off the screen too much. We didn’t try the food but it looked nice. Would definitely like to return to sample it soon!

Had a sunday lunch here recently which was pretty good and the plates are big. I ordered the half cornfed chicken which was very good, the roast potatoes were excellent. The service was really quick and the staff are really good. I’ve never had Litovel lager before which they sell here and it’s a new favourite. My only gripes are that they have the salt and pepper in little shot type glasses which I always find annoying. They should be in shakers. It was £13.50 for the dish which I thought was slightly over-priced. I prefer carvery style sunday roasts were you can pick what you want as sometimes you don’t eat everything it comes with.

Sunday lunch on a lovely spring day sat outside by a lovely park… not bad at all. We both went for a pork belly roast. I’d have to say the belly was slightly under-done, with the fat being not quite rendered down and some of the meat a little bit chewy. The vegetables were thankfully not overcooked. In fact, they were undercooked to the point of being almost raw. Good roast potatoes. Thin gravy. The staff were unable to tell us if the gravy was wheat-free, so E went without and as a result, for the first time ever, left a roast potato on the plate. Service was quick despite the large number of people there and there was even the occasional free table. Nice. Not, I think, worth £14. I’ve seen much better roasts for under a tenner.

Thank goodness for the Royal Inn! Friday night, desperate for a pint, and having just had a terrible experience at the Crown, we walked across the park and were immediately asked by two different staff members if we needed a drink. The crowd was a nice mix of local east-enders, hipsters and a man who looked like Charles Bukowski. We shared a table with some of the hipsters and had a great night chatting and listening to the jukebox. The prompt service and friendly mix of locals will definitely bring us back.

Love this place, a true staple in the Victoria Park Pubs! Sunday lunch is price at £16+ but you do get good cuts of meat! The Garden is great in Summer but its let down by the toilets every time i have been it has broken toilet seats and nearly always half blocked with a long que! Still, it does not stop me popping in for a drink!

I’d agree with other reviewers that the food can be on the pricey side, but then again the chips are very good. If you’re after something to tide you over, or perhaps before you head off around the park for a bracing walk, it’s perfect. After making snowmen in Victoria Park on the snow day in Feb last year, we curled up here for the afternoon and it was blissful. Family friendly, dogs allowed too.

Haven’t tried out the food, but the menu looks very good. It gets the high ranking for the really great beer selection and great large square table that allows for a big group. Lively good crowd on a Saturday eve and looking forward to some nice eves to venture to the beer garden.

The Royal Inn on the Park is another pub just off Victoria Park. It’s got a beer garden, wi fi and they do pub grub. I have never eaten here but have spent many a summers afternoon sipping wine in the beer garden watching the many dog walkers, cyclists and kids trickle out of Victoria Park, once I even saw an urban fox. The bar staff are friendly and the customers are a mix of locals and artists. There is a room upstairs for private hire for parties and the like, I have been to the life drawing classes here a few times.

Victoria park is pretty massive, so you’ll probably want to stop off for a pint half way round. Inside is pretty standard and wooden, but there’s a cool selection of tunes on the jukebox if you want to dictate the mood to everyone else — it’s not often you can listen to music from Ethiopia — but you can here, as well as some steady rock tunes too. The back garden is huge, but I found the benches around the front don’t offer the best of views considering all the greenery around — not so important at night! There’s a huge map of the world on one of the walls, which is a pretty cool way to brush up on your geography. It’s a shame it’s a chain pub, but the location is faultless.

Royal Inn on the park, is sandwiched in between two sections of Victoria Park, and is perfectly situated for a stop-off pint after an afternoon stroll. My friend who has a child, chose to have her drinkup here and it was a pleasure to see a pub accommodating families with no hassle. The beers are varied, with cider and ale on tap, but the food though good, is truly pricey and the service always slow. Outside a back garden hosts about sixty people, with some tables underneath a canopy, and it looks out over the park. The front also contains tables, although these quickly get claimed, but none the less, everytime I have been in here, I have left in fine spirits.
