Took me a while to find it! It’s a bit hidden– and I believe it might just be around for summer. But it’s a chill spot to escape to from the London rush on Oxford street haha. Drinks are decent and reasonably priced… Nice ambience too!

My friends and I came here after work on Monday evening, after Plan A of going to a restaurant in Marylebone fell through. Roofnic is right by Marble Arch station, and from Oxford Street all you see is a patch of artificial grass above a door and a bouncer standing by it. It is unmarked, much like a speakeasy, and there was no queue so I was able to walk straight in. Somehow I’d never seen Roofnic on one of the lists of rooftop bars in London, but since it is new, perhaps it is only a matter of time. After taking several flights of stairs, we emerged on the rooftop level, where there is a long bar on one side, and an assortment of lawn chairs, artificial grass, movie seat chairs, and long tables. It was very crowded when we arrived at 7PM, and the queue for the bar took a good 20 minutes. The place was fairly popular with the after work crowd, which thinned out by the time we went for rounds 2 and 3 of drinks. They have a number of fancy cocktail options served in mason jars, two beers on tap from Camden Town Brewery, and one option each for red and white wine. I didn’t get to actually see a menu, but they had some salads out, one with quinoa, and what looked like quesadillas being made behind the counter so I ordered some of those. They actually ended up being all meat(we think chicken) and a leaf of spinach, but no cheese, in a tortilla. The receipt called it a Manwich, and though the concept is new to me, it was pretty good bar food. The only last thing to note is that the bathrooms were surprisingly nice, especially compared to my recent traumatising experience at Frank’s Café. Roofnic doesn’t have any meaningful view, but given its stellar location, I could definitely see myself coming again.

There is something about popups that seems to attract Londoners and when you couple that with a rooftop bar you basically have yourself a winner. Roofnic is the latest addition to Oxford Street’s bars and in my opinion its greatest advantage is that if feels like you got all the best bits of Shoreditch and put them as central as it gets. From the yummy fruity cocktails in their cute jars to the makeshift wood pallet seating area and fake grass, this bar feels like it came right out of a Pinterest board. It’s perfect for sitting out in the sun and feeling like you’re at an adorable little haven, where the hustle and bustle of The street several floors below can not touch you. Their one out one in policy is also a plus, as it makes sure the place won’t get overcrowded and you can find a seat. I think it’s a great place to go with friends to chill after a long day or even bring a date that you want to impress with your knowledge of London’s cool new places. I can see myself being there a lot and totally recommend it to anyone!

This place is rather unique. Marriott hotels gave the owner £20k to set up a pop up bar. Normally that kind of money can’t get you anywhere, however they’ve been savvy about expenditure and going for a shabby chic kitch kind of vibe has meant they have kept to budget and created a wonderful little place. Although it’s part of the Marriott park lane, don’t be fooled. The entrance is on the corner of oxford street. And it isn’t obvious! No signs. Just a door on the street that is easy to miss; I did miss it! There is no lift and it’s about ¾ flights of stairs so be prepared for some climbing. The bar area itself is mainly covered by a neat structure, however it means only a very small area gets sunshine which is a shame. The bit that does get sunshine has great faux grass so you can chill on the ground with a lovely cocktails. Speaking of the cocktails, they are delicious and come in jam jars. The food is very nice too. They come in little little brown boxes. The quinoa is very yummy! There are two toilets which are unisex and are basically little outdoor sheds. Be careful with the taps: they can be a bit over zealous! This place gets very busy post work so I would advise getting here early.

Roofnic is a pop-up bar at Marriott Park Lane, although the entrance is on Oxford Street, as is the view. It’s a strange place and not somewhere you would associate with a Park Lane hotel. There are lots of basic wooden palletswhich make up the lounge area with cusions on them. Apparently the tables and chairs are old 1960’s ones, gained from a Scandinavian school and the lights are reclaimed theatre lights from Brixton. TheThe food comes in makeshift picnic boxesbut there are plenty of sharing options. Even the cocktails are made in and shaken in what looks like jam jars, which are given drink out of one the lid is removed. They do serve London larger on draft too. All in all its a bit shabby chic. I’m still not sure about this place. I was going to give 3 stars, then I thought; how many places in this area can you enjoy a drink in the open. Must pubs and bars, mean you have to team onto the pavement to enjoy a drink in the sunshine. So for offering a new place to enjoy a drink in the sun in central London, I take my hat off to Roofnic, and give them 4. If it’s a nice day, and I’m in the area. I would certainly come back here!
