Definitely a good place to watch sport on the tv. My companions reckoned that the price of drinks had recently risen although £3.40 for a Deucher’s IPA was on a par with Edinburgh and £1.85 for a soda & blackcurrant no more opportunistic than many other places. I had a Black Watch to eat and at £3.95 felt it was well priced. The shepherd’s pie however lacked any sort of gravy and the portion was on the small side. Toilets are clean and unsophisticated. Good collection of Scottish sporting memorabilia displayed around the walls. Forgot to mention that the ceiling fans are manky with dust.

The Rob Roy is situated on a side road about a of a mile from Paddington station. Being of the main road and away from the main pubs on Pread street makes this an enjoyable pub as it don’t attract the normal crowds of visitors so is easy to get served. The pub consists of a large bar with a small selection of real ale, there is plenty of seating within the pub and bar stalls at the bar itself. It also has a number of benches outside although this is very noisy with the sound of ambulances and police cars going by every couple of seconds. I did find the beer to be slightly on the warm side which was vary disappointing, and that there was only a choice of two real ale’s available.

We popped into the Rob Roy after the nearby Larrick revealed they were indeed showing the football, but without any sound. Feeling that an evening of European football viewing deserved a little more atmosphere we headed out into the wild night on a pub hunt… Lo and behold, we found not only a pub showing the footy in big screened full volume goodness, but a ‘proper pub… Not held back by a poncey chef, the Rob Roy served ‘proper’ pub food like Scampi & Chips, Ham egg and chips, Tomato & Chips and even just Chips, they also carry ‘proper’ bar snacks, i.e. scampi flavour fries, frazzles and scratchings(though we were only intent on liquid refreshment we can tell you the scratching were mighty fine). This pub also served ‘proper’ Guinness(pretty much the best I’ve found in London). The clientèle we suitably eclectic, the table next to us seemed to be housing Edgar Davids, Gunther Van Hagen and Frank from shameless, scattered around were some fairly uncompromisingly hard looking chaps, ‘proper’ men’s men(the kind of people who had shaved heads, tattoos and the build of a brick shithouse). It was also one of the few«Scottish» pubs I’ve found in London that genuinely seemed to be full of actual Scottish people… I will definitely be heading back here for the next big match!
