We had been wandering for 15 minutes in the cold looking for somewhere to get a drink, which a, showed the rugby b, had a nice vibe and c, was open. I hold my hands and admit this was a rooky mistake — searching for a nice pub in the city on a Sunday that also showed sport was a bit of a fools errand. We finally ended up in Red Lion — it was by no means our first choice but there were a few people in the downstairs bar and it was warm… o, and it served wine! The football was on downstairs but they kindly put the ruggers on upstairs(it took them quite a while to work out how to do it) so we took a seat in the upstairs bar. The bar itself wasn’t open and we were the only people up there but they kindly came up to take further orders for drinks and food. The house wine wasn’t bad, the baked Camembert was good(I was starving though) and the portion size of the bread and oils was good for the price along with serving some decent bread. Not the nicest vibe, not anything to write home about but accommodating, friendly people, drink and sports — not a bad Sunday afternoon!

Amazing little pub in the heart of Shoreditch, mulled wine, open fire place, homemade pizzas, roof terrace, board games and most importantly cheap boooooozzeeee

£5 cocktails on Thursdays 4pm-6pm And they have a rooftop area and a game room! It wasn’t very crowded. The drinks were good, one of the bartenders was very new and needed help but the woman bartender was great. They also had a £10 pint and pizza deal. It’s a good little bar in the area, but it is somewhat small and the roof isn’t all too scenic. It’s worth checking out if you’re nearby, but don’t go too far out of your way for it.

One of my friends thought this looked like an ex good pub, while another just upped and left after a couple of sips. I can’t say I can blame him, the rugby themed beer Chip + Chase was only barely drinkable. Trying to be a trendy lounge bar.

If you like walking into a bar and getting judged by hipsters, well this is the place for you! Congratulations! There’s 3 floors here, including a roof terrace. I guess if you were going in ascending degrees of doucheyness, the ground floor would be the douchiest. Whatever, I paid for my 4 pound cider in 20 pence pieces. Take that, hipsters.

This might be both the worst and best pub near Hoxton Square. Upon your first visit you might be intimidated by the rude service, bizarre music, and mismatched furniture. But like many things in life, it just takes some getting used to. The cheap drinks, the roof terrace, the mulled wine, and the smell of wood smoke from the fire all combine to make this a wonderful little pub. Its off the beaten track location makes it one of the few places that isin’t rammed on a friday evening and the man behind the music is a true genius. Seriously, from terrible pop to jazz and house music, you really never know what you’re going to get. But that’s what makes it great.

I was here with my partner for Sunday roast — it was a warm day, quiet on the roof(2 other tables — no one was eating) and we ordered the Beef & Lamb roast. Served quickly but with a lack of service, no condiments, no addt’l napkins, etc. My beef was very tough, extremely dry and a tremendous amount of fatty bits. I brought it back down to the main bar where we ordered. I explained it wasn’t good and a bit difficult to eat. she leaned over the bar and called to the person who served our food who happened to be the same person who prepared it. While he sat in his chair with HIS plate of food in front of him, ‘John’ argued with me about the quality of the beef claiming that beef is dry and fatty and thats how it is. He shouted from the chair he was sitting in ‘That’s how it’s cook and that is what is on your plate!!” I asked for the chicken roast instead and was informed that would take over 40 min to cook. I guess 30 min for him to finish his meal and then 10 min for me to get mine. I then asked for my money back, which they gave me, and we left. What a lack of customer service. As we left, no one said anything to us and I found it extremely disrespectful. I will not return to this location again.

Rooftop terrace — check. Reasonably priced food for post drinking eats — check. NOT as hipster and you think — check. I had the joy of sitting in the sun on this terrace and soaking in the vitamin D. A coy plan on the part of the managers to make sure I will definitely be returning to this spot once again. Plastic cups on the rooftop are the only downside, I don’t like drinking anything out of plastic cups. But i’m a good girl and it turns out you have to be in order to drink up there. You do have to walk up 3 flights of stairs, but Hey, it is a ROOFTOP terrace. On a fussy Irish note as well… the pints are well poured here, making it easier to go back for more. Which I will be doing.

Hidden down Hoxton Street, meaning that the newbie-hipsters don’t often come across it, the Red Lion is an oasis in the desert of overrun Shoreditch hangouts. Even better, it has a brilliant roof terrace which is fantastic for the summer. Even saw some kids up there this last Sunday. Lovely spot. I’m told it gets busy in the evening, but where doesn’t in Shoreditch, so I’ll give it a whirl sometime soon.

If I could give Shoreditch’s Red Lion pub 3.5 stars I would, as the food was delicious and absolutely bargainous. I had a tender, fruity lamb tagine with cous cous for about a fiver and was chuffed to bits with it. The pub itself is a bit rickety — every single table was wobbly as far as I could work out. It’s also full of locals, which gives it a friendly — if ever so slightly blokey — vibe. There’s a roof terrace upstairs I think, but I didn’t venture up so can’t really comment on that. I would go back for the tagine, that’s for sure.

The main room downstairs had a rough charm(reminded me in a good way of some of the run down bars I have known in Berlin). Worn but pleasant décor: interesting faded wallpaper, a bit of art, a mirror ball etc. The clientèle could also have been from a Berlin bar; hip, but not painfully so. The selection of beers is fairly basic, but adequate for my needs. A really great feature is the large open fireplace that dominates the back room. A warm cheerful, if somewhat grungy spot. Recommended for a quiet spot of drinking with a friend during the week.

This pub has got some character. I pass it frequently and it’s filled with your usual Shoreditch-ian crowds.(Ya know, skinny men in tight jeans with facial hair and big glasses.) It says is has food, but I’m not so sure I want to eat there. It says it has roof garden seating, that is, if you can find a place to sit after walking upstairs. It has a strange middle floor filled with random art and furniture. It could be good for parties, but I’m not sure if there’s a bar on that floor? While I’ve been in a few times, the memory that always makes me laugh is of the pub tender’s dog being very friendly, but then sits down and scoots his bottom across the floor as the owner yells at him. And then touches him. And then proceeds to serve. Yeah… funny, but now you know why I wont eat there.

Incredibly, an unpretentious, old fashioned pub — on Hoxton Square! Yes, incredible as it may seem, this pub survives. Have no fear, punters, most of the twats go to the posher places on the square. Here you will find a more discerning clientele. And that’s mainly because of the sheer warmth of the place — warm look as well as real warmth — and the all-over-the-place choice of music. Don’t go to the twatty places — go here(unless you yourself are a twat, of course).

The Red Lion is perfect for a cold winters day as it has a huge, roaring, open fireplace. It’s such a pleasure to sit warming your cockles, pint of Guinness in hand, chatting with friends. They also serve massive burgers in their lounge restaurant bar area upstairs. Conveniently located literally just off Hoxton Square, happily the Red Lion seems to bypass both the ridiculous expense and off putting crowds of the trendiest square in London. I find it really difficult to walk past without going in, it just looks so inviting!

Red lion is a trendy bar just off Hoxton Square. There are a few tables in this bar so you can sit down and relax whilst you sip on some of their finest cocktails. There seems to always be nice creative people and the background music is very current to the East London vibe. During the summer time the people use to consume beers ouside, but in winter it is much better to enjoy the warm room inside. The Red Lion sometime book DJ’s during the week end aswell and the drinks are affordable, a top notch venue in my eyes!

owned by the queen of Shoreditch that also owns 333/Mother This pub is great it is fairly cheap the food is just amazing, it is very cheap but reallly good! It is very popular with the locals and has a lot of regulars going. I love it due to the cheap booze, good food, and the roofterrace. but i didnt really wanted you to know that because it is only small and already quite popular
