Pure Evil é um artista local que deu seu nome a galeria com proposta de ser o centro da Street Art dos quatro cantos do mundo. O Foco é reunir talentos periféricos de todo o globo. O clima(e mofo) do andar de baixo é o diferencial do espaço com o dizer, logo na escada estreita, «enter at your own risk».

Teeny tiny. Worth a look if you’re in the area. «Cool», «Edgy», and perhaps a little«up its own»… But worth a look all the same.

This gallery is definitely tiny — but it’s worth a look if you’re into graffiti and street art. I went here for the preview of the ROBBO show, which wasn’t amazing but which was memorable because of the place’s interesting, musty basement. Walking down a creaky, narrow stairwell, we encountered piled-up doors(yes… doors) in the corner — all painted robin’s egg blue — mossy brick walls, dirt floors and a solarium-style ceiling. It was all the perfect setting to display edgy street art pieces in. Most intriguingly, the room was inhabited by a group of musicians in suits playing folksy-sounding, Beirut-reminiscent music apparently at random. Another gallery-viewer came up and presented a tiny mandolin, which one of the musicians immediately picked up and started playing with. It was all very charmingly memorable in a bizarre sort of way. I’d definitely be interested to see what other quirky bits of randomness this gallery has to offer in the future.

Pure Evil Gallery is a wicked space. Just seen some of the pieces they have in for a show they’re doing in aid of Bhopal Medical Appeal. Looks amazing… Gallery is super cool. Make sure you also check out the evil sound system…

I love street art, live in the area and often look through the window when i go by on Leonard St, though alas I am yet to add anything from the Pure Evil Gallery to my burgeoning collection, mainly because the numbers on the prints and the prices on the canvas just don’t add up. I understand you can’t sell things for a song and a dance, but at the same time you can’t take the mickey either. Pure Evil is a busy little capitalist, and I laud him for that, but as yet I have tended to be under-whelmed by the various ventures, from the Xmas Evil Fayre to his other escapades. I look forward to breaking the mold one of these days, even if I do peak in with interest with relative frequency.

I come across this quirky little gallery on my lunch break one day when I used to work nearby. Places like this certainly makes life a little more interesting. The main gallery space is quite compact with prints sprawled everywhere and a workshop out the back. Downstairs which you ‘enter at your own risk’, as the sign says on the wall has a warehouse feel to it with whitewashed brick walls, concrete floors and blinding fluorescent blue and purple light art pieces on the walls. The art work here is mainly graffiti, prints, drawings and paintings. Well worth a look.
