If I was a local, I wouldn’t come here… Since I stayed here. The bar was great. There was a piano player here two of the nights I stopped by here. They sung billy Joel(piano man of course) and Sam smith(I know you’re not the only one)… Staff is friendly and knows how to make a dirty martini and Manhattan(seriously other places make it badly in London). The wine tasted a little weird here. I ordered my standard reds from my fav places but it tasted a bit off. Not cheap of course… The hotel guests also here were fun to chat with… I had a fantastic time.

This review is for the bar and not the hotel itself. I had drinks and a late night dinner here after checking in to the hotel. We sat at a table and were informed we could order food from the night menu. We asked for some menus that our waiter brought us before disappearing again. After a few minutes he showed up again and we were ready to order. We got through or drink order before he disappeared again. He came back again and took our food order before disappearing again. At this point, not even our drinks had shown up. Our drinks came by a little later. We had long finished our drinks when one of the waiters commented our food would be out shortly. As he was walking away, I asked for another water. It took a few minutes before our food finally showed up. The food was reasonable, but nothing special. The service was about the same, nothing spectacular. It was kind of expensive, but there weren’t a lot of options. It was one of the few choices available at that hour so I’m glad it was there, but it wouldn’t be my first choice if other restaurants or bars are available. One piece of interesting history is this the bar that Alexander Litvinenko may have been poisoned while drinking tea leading to his assassination.

I’m afraid my opinion of this hotel has dropped in recent years. This used to be an excellent hotel and i would use the downstairs restaurant as a meeting point and interview area when working in London. However on my last visit the reception staff told me there was no longer free wi fi and despite the fact i was working there all day and spending money i had to pay for access. having queued twice to get the code it didn’t work! £5 for one hour and i got 30 minutes only. Hardly customer friendly! The male waiter was also most unhelpful when i requested carrot sticks instead of bread for my hummus i was charged an extra £7! and when i remarked on the small black flies that were surrounding the food he answered so what do you want me to do about it? i wont be going back.

This review is for the bar within the hotel and not the hotel itself. Being on Grosvenor Sq this is an upmarket hotel and the bars are therefore of top quality. One is a formal bar with older barstaff that look after you very well and will engage you in conversation, oak panelled room where you can get a coffee and afternoon tea etc. Quite expensive but if you have been shopping, it is a nice place to go and relax before the journey home(by the way, a good and not so expensive car park underneath). The second bar was always part of the restaurant run by T. V Chef Brian Turner but on my last visit there was no sign of him ?. This bar is very modern with square edged sofa’s, and seating in brown leather, trendy flowers adorn the glass brick alcoves and it the bar shouts«young, trendy and new money». Young and perfectly presented bar staff prepare you cocktails to your favourite drink but are a little formal for my taste. Generally expensive but a nice place to go if you are pampering yourself and a great place to start your evening before venturing off elsewhere.
